I've just had it with people who are NEVER wrong. Everything you say needs ironclad documented proof, with fifteen PhD class research theses that prove what you're saying. While any nonsense they utter is a holy revelation. And unfortunately, we have so many of those in the Arab world it's not even funny! Guess what, they followed us all the way to the west!

I've really had it with these numbers. We all try to be respectful and understanding. But excuse me, no one is all knowing and all wise. Except the lord. Few people think they share god's infinite wisdom.

Discussing anything with such people is always a struggle. You just can't point out anything wrong in their story when it's extremely obvious. They're just never wrong. And the minute you start winning the argument, things have to turn to a mockery contest.

One of the fellow bloggers once said, that if "all your credentials for you is that you've got a child at the age of 23" then please don't give me life advice. And if you don't know history it's really not my fault. Getting upset and violently argumentative about it, will not help you make your point. To the contrary!

You find yourself eventually withdrawing from the aggressive discussion, and just accepting everything being said, just to have a little piece of mind!

You know, for the longest time I thought I had a very long breath in debating. But some small minded people really push me over the edge with their tiny ideas and even narrower understanding of things.

By the way, I don't mean someone in particular, so if I have recently debated something on your blog, or here. Then please don't think this is directed at you. It really isn't.

This is just a generic complaint against some of the arrogant single track minds. Unfortunately, we have so many of these delusional gods in the society, and there's really no way to get rid of this. No matter how patient you are, even if you were able to prove everything beyond any shadow of a doubt

Q, I'm sure you were expecting a response from me, given our discussion on my post and the timing of course I can't help but think our argument motivated this post.......check your email
No Asma, this is not directed at you! Believe it or not. It's not directed at you
is there a tiny possibility that it is YOU that suffers from the "I am always right" virus. you know that it comes with Shawerma, right? you were in Jordan recently!
Qwaider, I like what you said in an earlier post to the effect of: "I never learned anything from someone who agreed with me."

    This rings very true.

Back when I did my arabic A-level, I remember studying about two great poets who created some of the best poetry ever written, unfortunately they dedicated their poetic talents to deriding each other. Yet it was all very entertaining and educational, and I liked to think that behind all those words, they respected each other very much.
    Globalorama,
If I have an opinion about something, of course I think that it's the right one. But I am known to concede the point MANY times, I just the reputation of being the fierce argumentative type.. I don't think that I am.

And no, I'm not always right, Most of my thoughts are actually not that decisive, they're not a matter of life and death, and they're not day and light distinctions. They're opinions!

    Hani,
Interesting Analogy .. but this (IMHO) is one side thinking everything they say is a holy revelation!
