There hasn't been a single day in the last million years that this topic has not been discussed. People from all walks of life keep on the ancient tradition of presenting the virtue of one side over the other. And you know what? It's not about what REALLY goes on, it's about how luring your presentation is. Women know this. Women know exactly what I'm talking about... That's why parents hate to see their young unmarried daughters hang around married women.

A married woman, might be abused, has a brown eye for breakfast. Does the donkey work of 15 people and the minute she feels that her dignity is up in the scale she goes and represents marriage in the best of terms. For the unsuspecting younger generation it spells out heaven. Away from parent's control and uptight existence..

The minute a married woman starts talking to these young girls you can see their eyes widening and their pupils dilating and their mouths drooling over the amazing fantasy world of being married.

Of course, that fantasy only continues in their heads. The married woman often goes back to getting her fair share of responsibility and mistreatment. While the little ones float back to their pink beds, and start hugging their stuffed teddy bears while waiting for prince charming who's going to whisk them to their dream fantasy castle

So the little girls grow older, or at least the mature and start seeing through the lies Fantasies and start retaliating with all the wonderful things they can do because they are single. And the cycle reverses. You see the older married women drooling this time, eyes wide open, pupils dilating and listening with great attention to the fantasies they once had. Before that evil man entered their life and made slaves out of them in his house. Salves for his wishes, slaves for his habits and slaves for these little creations that he fathered. It's all his fault.

So, the older ones, go home with more feelings of discontent. Their older scheme no longer works, and they can't really raise interest in the eyes of the younger girls any more. They can't boast about having a man, or changing diapers and how amazing and wonderful it is. They can no longer brag about not answering to their parents, because they answer to someone way less than what their father was. They just figured out how much they are at a disadvantage.

So they find nothing ... and they retaliate with their strongest of all lures... The amazing world of over-expectations in the world of bedroom olympics... And this one doesn't really fail (in the east) but in the west, they just accept/reject being a suburban bored housewife/mother and bring it all out on the one who caused her all that misery. But back in the east. That doesn't fail -thank god-and scores of young girls continue to throw themselves in the fire of the husband escaping the dreadful heaven of the parents.

If someone could answer me this: How come we're so incomplete to the point that our life can't exist without a partner? It's impossible to do many things while being single (especially going to the "CoBels only Blease" places). Naah, just kidding. It's impossible to be a parent alone. It's impossible to feel safe alone. It's impossible to feel secure for the future while you're alone. Things are harder, issues are greater and obstacles are impenetrable when you're alone. Yet, couples find a way! Is this a proof of our imperfection?

If that was a mind twister, then consider this, What about people who become worse when they are with someone?

    Memories....

    Well put.

I can't stand parents who try to push off their daughters to the nearest eligible man.

The key for women's freedom here is a good education and career, otherwise their only alternative (unless daddy is rich) is to attract a husband to support them. How is that not prostitution ? and why is this acceptable ?

Anyway I know very few happy married couples. My parents are an exception; only time they fight is when they wanna go out, and my mom is late!

Yet, I know plenty of happy unmarried couples, but that's different; they don't have to spend every waking hour together.

I also know some who complain that their wife won't just have sex with them when they get home form work, but that they have to be nice to her. Ummm hello she isn't a machine.

How can a woman know the real man (as opposed to the more charming, and polite personality many guys put up in front of women) she's going to marry and make sure she will be happy ? I don't think the traditional crap where the parents introduce them, and a week later they're married is reasonable, but that's just me.
    Hani.
-ATTRACT A HUSBAND to support them how is that not prostitution?.
I dont know what part of the world you live in or you,r state of mind, but for fact you need professional help.
I think two people who intend on getting married should know each other very well before taking any steps toward an official commitment. When people meet through arranged marriages they usually pretend in front of each other and act as angels. It's really hard to see the real them. Only after he is married to the girl do his real colors show. After it is too late and she is trapped. (This doesn't necessarily mean that the guy is the only one who is acting, it could be both).
The decision to get married shouldn't be taken lightly, it should be thought through thoroughly (hehe it's a tongue twister) and i'm against forcing women into marriage because in the end, she's the one who's gonna have to deal with the consequences, not her family.
Believer, I think you don't understand what Hani is saying.

"I can't stand parents who try to push off their daughters to the nearest eligible man. Parents shouldn't force their daughters to get married just to get them out of the house.  I think that is what he means.  And parents should NOT do that.  If people don't want their kids to live with them while they go to college, work and try to figure out what they want in this life then maybe those people should get a pet that dies after 10 years instead of having children.
    CSS.
YOU SAID, i think that is ehat he means.
So you dont know what he means, are you from the 1978 book store.
Well I think that's what he means because I think that any rational person would deduce as much from his comment.

I have no idea what the 1978 bookstore is and I am hesitant to ask.
    CSS understood me crystal clear.

BNA, What is it you disagree on with my statement ?

We have to appreciate all the points in our culture good and bad.

The fact is, sons are prefered over daughters by many (but not all) of us. The reason is that men are seen as the bread winners, and women as the child barers/nurturers. As such the parents beleive their son will assist them as they grow older where as the daughter will marry someone from a different family and leave or so the perception goes.

This is the parent's responsibility, and I'm ever so grateful to my father who did not treat my sisters this way. In fact he treated them as well as he treated me, and today they earn as much as I do (and more) and are hence free to decide whether they should marry a man for the right reasons, becuase they have a choice.

    Choice = power
