Memories....
fi nas ma bidha testarze2 :S willi bida7ek inno bil a5er they complain bout being poor and enfuring the low standards of life!
Its actually illegal for them not to pick you up if they don't have a passenger. They are complaining that they get ticketed over this all the time.
I've seen how cabs in other countries make it easy for you to report problems with a particular one. They put a large very visible number on every little corner (both back seats, the side of the cab, the front, everywhere. and its just one number for the whole city. Here we have this little piece of cardboard with the guy's picture/name on it that's usually worn out, inivisible hard to read, turned upside down or not there all together. That in itself should be a ticket.
Oh and its surprising how many drivers ahve a no smoking sign and yet they smoke (probably because the car's owner put the sign there). That should also be reportable.
The worst part is when the cab driver bihamlak jmeeleh if there's traffic (like he's doing you a favor). I mean come on, he's getting paid to do this. I didn't cause the traffic to be there.
If you don't know the way to where you're going, there's a 90% chance they're going to take you along the "scenic route" which happens to cost twice as much.
Some of them will refuse to start the meter, others don't have one, others claim its broken, yet others will leave it turned on at 20JDs and counting and refuse to reset it.
tourists will end up paying in JDs when the fare is in fils, and the dishonest cabbies won't tell them.
90% of cabbies will listen to Bsira7a Ma3 Mohammad Il- Wakeel in the morning, some of the religous ones will listen to the equivalent ptogram on Hayyat. Some of them will pretend to be religous by playing Quran so you think they're honest and won't drive you around in circles.
When you give them directions, never say you're going to (Dwar Khames), if you're not stopping exactly there, otherwise they're gonna snap at you if you tell them to go 10 meters away from (Dwar Khames) !
I could go on, but this is enough tafsheesh for one post !
I just hope they improve the system or something because a solution must be found for this unbearable problem.
and whats with taxis giving rides to female passengers and letting them sit up front, thats just amazing... just as a final not, i think it is completely unprofessional and a utter nonsense that i as a guy have to sit up front with a taxi-cab, why?! this has got to change!
i just hope this system of (super-cabs) that is to be installed in Jordan just cuts it, cause this taxi situation is starting to get bad.
:)
And I heard about this system that's supposed to improve the taxis in jordan but i don't really see anything being done. I even once heard on the radio that they were gonna make specific taxis for girls where the taxis would be pink and the drivers are women. And they only drive girls around. You may say that it's sexist but it's not. It's just that with all the stories you hear about taxis and the outrageous things that happen, it's not safe for girls to get in a cab with a male driver. You can't trust them, especially if the girl is riding alone.
Anyway, the funny thing is after writing that, today for the 2nd time this year, I got a really nice cabbie. He was extremely polite. He offered what i know was good advice as to the best rout to take. He wasn't super-chatty and inquisitive like some, and he never complained about the traffic, the destination etc.. He turned on his meter automatically when I got in. The meter ran at the correct pace. His car was new, clean, did not smell like an old pair of sneakers, and as a bonus air-conditioned. He drove steadily and even used the mirrors and the turn signals. He wasn't super/chatty and inquisitive like some drivers, yet he had a pleasant disposition. I gave him a whole JD bonus instead of the usual 0.3
Unbelievable !
