This is one of the sentences that just about anyone seeking reform in their own country has to face. You don't have to be Jordanian. You don't have to be anything, you'll always find someone who claims to be more [place here your favorite, country, ethnicity, political party, moral value, religion, company, achievement ...etc]
The fact is, this form of gagging people is the highest level of bigotry and arrogance. If anything it's the product of completely immature personalities and weak arguments at best
Who can judge that I'm more Muslim than someone else? Who can argue that they're more Jordanian than someone else? Is agreement with the government on everything they say and do a mandate for good citizenship?
The minute you argue about the government, the bad conditions, the low income, the high prices the WHATEVER you become a hater!
The first act of arrogance ever recorded in History is claimed (by people who believe) to be the defiance of Satan to the word of the lord. Because, in his view, he was better than this little creature. He certainly worship God more. But at the end he failed to obey his mandate, feeling superiority over this creature. And vowing to make sure that he will take as many of the humans with him to hell.
So what does that story has to do with what I'm talking about? Simple, people don't need to do something more to be better at it. Let me give you an example. You can practice painting 24/7 for 20 years and still not beat Da Vinci.
People who view themselves as more "Jordanian", more "Moral", more "Islamic" more whatever are really missing the big picture. That picture is that a nation need to be built on pluralism, coexistence and valuing everyone else's achievements. If someone is to be accountable, they need to be self critical, honest, transparent and have integrity. These the bases of citizenship.
It's very important for us to continue to observe these values, and not allow narrow vision and bigoted opinions to ruin it for the masses. We must coexist. We need to feel for each other and it's absolutely mandatory that we respect each other's differences.
The last thing we need is a group, or an individual who thinks, or feels entrusted with the nation's best interest, and that he's doing this alone!
Memories....
Now, remove the word "Patriotism" and place your favorite, value, religion, ...etc
People, especially in Jordan, are obsessed with being the first in something. The competition bleeds also into patriotism. It's also a place for people to compete. Even if they said or done nothing in that direction.
