Business must get agile

It's very important for companies to do this. I see this every single day and the problem is that decisions like these need to come from top management. There is no way for small time players to actually do anything that will allow their voices to be heard, unless they build a very solid case . In the case of a futuristic product (in other words, a pure hypothetical situation) there is no way anyone can build a solid case

In my humble opinion this leads to the demise of any business no matter how successful. For an established successful business the industry my be tolerant enough or forgiving, yet the delays to fix the issues will eventually catch up with that business and cause them to pay through the nose for their failure to actually rectify the error

An example of this for people related to the computer industry is what Microsoft did when they first started Vista. If you remember, vista was supposed to be this managed code paradise. Everything is managed code, and services running wonderfully in this amazing new world. But once the betas started becoming available for the public one thing was visibly apparent. That model simple just DOES NOT WORK! It was too optimistic, way ahead of the time where managed code will be mature enough to run as the back bone of the system. Microsoft identified the issue and went back on all of that junk. But guess what, it took them two years to figure that issue and fix it. The result? 5 years to get vista with mediocre quality (as many have noticed) and probably billions of lost revenue if not things like losing market share to competitors which might harm Microsoft later down the line

Just about everyone out there has done this very mistake, from IBM with their OS2 to Apple with PowerPC architecture, to Google with many little stupid projects to Oracle with snobbish approach to customer pain (practically driving their customers to MySQL, MSSQL, Ingress, Postgress and other database engines out there. To the US government and their war in Iraq ...

In all the cases above, I can't but think of the dooms-day-prophets who predicted all of that, and stood firmly against the stupidity being committed (and were probably branded as poor team-players, success enemies ... and a million other negative term) When they were practically the most accurate in predicting the demise of someone's "baby"

What businesses really need to do is have a better mechanism of mitigating issues, and ensuring that they're on track for matters. Not on track for delivering the product. But in touch with the industry and market to know for a fact that their product will be well received

No one should be arrogant in a way that will hamper their ability to identify that they have diverged from what is needed and that they are working very hard, to achieve failure.

"If you lose track of your goal, you might be working hard towards failure" -  Qwaiderization!

If you're not agile enough to shift the direction you're heading to correct your course along the way, then you might really be heading to disaster. As an example, a projectile being fired from cannon to land 40 miles away, a single degree of variation might mean that the projectile has missed its target by few miles which might mean life or death for troops on the ground, and may mean the difference between hitting that enemy post or that civilian home! And that's not taking into consideration wind variations, topography and a million other factors that will affect the accuracy of hitting the target

I guess what I'm trying to say is that businesses need to execute like smart ammunition, what they do is simply course-correct along that path to achieve the desired result. The business world no longer has the luxury of carpet bombing a target. Even the infinite resources world of business is no longer forgiving for such tactics.

So the bottom line is ... "keep one eye on the target, and one eye on your next step, or you'd be wasting both" - Qwaiderization!
