It's weird how sometimes we tend to mix emotions and allow these emotions to cloud our judgement. Historically, (or maybe a common misconception) men have been more rational when it comes to these mater. (I'm talking about the common case here). For example two parents saw their child bleeding from the foot. You'll notice the mother getting too emotional and caring more about "the person" while the father maintains his temper and seeks to elevate the pain or remove any further threat. I just committed a generalization here. And I do apologize. But I am trying to give an example that people can relate to.

What brought all of these ideas to my mind is the "horrifying video" of a little child suffering from a severe case of "ichthyosis fetalis" a very serious congenital condition with severe abnormalities and is mostly fatal. The baby would look very deformed in the most horrifying of ways.

Now that the little history is out of the way, here's what I noticed...

As I viewed the video for the first time, and less than seconds after I was done. I found my self firing such an aggressive response filled with hate and frustration. Directing my anger towards the Nurses who were violating human behavior for me!

Few moments later as I regained consciousness. I started to analyse the content. What I found astonished me. It appears that I wanted to punish the nurses for the baby's condition! I wanted to tear them apart because the baby was suffering. I was appalled by the level of pain that I sensed coming out from the baby at the time.

But there's one catch! They didn't cause this disorder! They weren't directly responsible for the baby's suffering. It's true that I naturally sympathised with the baby. But all they did really was kind of show off a once-in-a-lifetime event on their cameras.

Not I'm not saying their behavior is acceptable. It's not. But now, suddenly the death penalty started to sound too harsh for me

This example reminded me of a number of incidents that I've witnessed. How I automatically sided with the person I thought needed the help. Only to discover that they have fooled my emotions by associating another cause (or an effect) to the emotion they were trying to push. Which is somehow the case of some of the domestic violence cases. We naturally side with the crying side. The complaining side and the weaker side

This is also the idea behind most commercials. When they promote a credit card they show you the fun that you could have with the credit. But that's just smoke and mirrors. They sell the idea of "Fun" "happy life" as if it's what their credit card shows

I think we should always remember to weigh our positions and reaction and make sure that they're actually directed towards the right direction, the right person. The right event. Not

    Memories....

Well, I saw the clip by chance on youtube two days ago, while serfing for clips from Jordan on youtube out of boredom.. I come across  this clip  entitled "alien".. I opened it to be shocked with what I saw.. I was not able to view 10 seconds of it. The image was too much pain for me that I just closed the whole page.. but what caught my attention in those ten seconds or so of viewing the clip was the giggles and jokes the nurses were uttering.
After closing the video for a while, I decided to go back and view it, maybe not look, but listen to what the nurses were saying, so I did. I was so shocked of how some people can be so heartless.. Q, they were examining the girl in the least of emotions and feelings.. They said things that were just soooooooo bad to be said about a suffering baby at that point (even if it was an old person).. It made me feel down to know that such heartless people exist...Do not tell me that one of them said "haram 3alaiki".. that was just said with a giggle...
I saw the clip another time on Muhanned's blog, and made sure to not be harsh judging the nurses, but I could not.. They were acting in the least humane way ya Samer! They deserve to be punished for the lack of humanity they displayed!
i garee more with the last thing u wrote, that's why i never take an action while i'm sad, angry, or hungry..:D...it is important to make dessions while u r feeling good away from high and strong feelings

and that is what i call seeing the world in a different way/eye, we didnot see it before....ur way of seeing and weighing things have changed adn this is so good!!!

i have changed too, i do appreciate little tiny good things that make me smile and try to ignore things upset me nomatter how big they r...
but really, what makes us change the way we see the wolrd in?? u should talk about it, Quwaider...
    mabrouk, brother....
i know what is coming now....
    peace to all...
Any inhuman act against someone who is incapable of responding or defending is beyond emotions, for me it is something that I can't describe, I feel violated, I feel that God was violated, humanity was violated..Babies, kids, elderly, sick people and people with disabilities shouldn't be looked at or treated as a 25 year old man..And violation even by LOOKS and laughs is unacceptable..

Anyway, maybe its me, but when it comes to those categories of people I find myself "emotional" simply because I am human.
Emotions may could judgment, but in this case I want to see those two animals punished ! now it might not be the electric chair, but they need to see the gravity of what they have done. and it has nothing to do with the babies condition and has every thing to do with their violation of the baby....think how many times did they do this before
Emotions can cloud judgement but even when you get over the initial shock and anger of seeing the actions of these nurses, common sense takes over and tells you what they did is morally and indisputably wrong and they do deserve to be punished. Maybe the judgement of punishment should not be done with the cloud of emotions hanging over you but the punishment should be there nonetheless.
And as for advertisements, they are designed to cloud out judgement and make us salivate after something we know we do not need. The iPhone being the latest example of that :D Common sense tells you there is no need to spend $400-$600 on a phone just because it looks AWESOME and has a few extra features that other smartphones don't have but that didn't stop 700,000 people from buying it and thousands more lusting after it.
Emotions are not all bad though. They are what make us human, after all.
Kinzi got some new info about the nurses..

Wow, I didn't thoroughly read the post at first to see you were referring to my post. I don't think I was being overly emotional, but i don't think you were referring to me either.

I think emotion is an important part of propelling people to thoughtful action. Well-channeled outrage can be quite productive.

It never occurred to me to blame the nurses for the baby's condition, it was their actions that were deplorable. My main desire to see the nurses punished it not so much personally punitive but redemptive. As Tamara mentioned, how many babies had been mistreated before? Action will keep them from harming others. It will also either shame them into doing a better job, or switch careers.
Kinzi .. I'm reflecting on my own personal behavior. Not yours. Not 3ogla's Angel.
After reflecting I got to these ideas. That's all :)

It's by no way directed to you

    Well...
Maybe you are right.. maybe not but I have this comment.
Had I seen this clip before being married I would have been outraged at the nurses.
But beinga grieving mother myself, having lost a baby, let me tell you something.
The only thing the came to my mind when I saw this clip... and the deformation itself I almost didn't notice after hearing the baby's cries, is the fact that they caused her pain, while she was passing away.
The fact that the totally disregarded her right of dying as pain free as possible, and even inflected pain on her that I could not overcome.
And my only reaction was after crying for that Angel, for my angel too, is to think of a way to insure that these nurses are never to be allowed near a baby. No punishment, I didn't want to hit them I just wanted to protect the other children, that's it.
