I'm so furious about the married women around here (and back home) that are so lazy and end up getting a slave worker (aka a maid) when they're busy sitting on their bum and doing absolutely nothing in their lives. Here's a thought, instead of getting a maid AND a gym subscription, how about you do the house work as exercise?!!

Alright, I'm a little jealous. Ok, not a little. A lot! I pay the equivalent of the monthly salary of a PhD holder in Jordan for my maid (which comes once a week for few hours). While people in Jordan and the rest of the middle east can afford a maid for the price of couple of happy meals here in the US

Anyway, that's not the point. What I'm seeing, and this is such a growing trend, is housewives, with absolutely nothing to do and couple of -vanity- kids getting maids, AND sending their children to daycare centers JUST to have time for themselves!

Well, excuse me! But don't you already have the time in the world?! Why do you have A maid, send the kids to daycare AND go to the gym!? I'm seriously puzzled

Here's a nasty bit, the cute "hubbies" are Always working around the house. From changing diapers to combing kids hair and giving them baths and what not. These are not the "si-el-sayyed" or alpha male types these are pretty much "Khuz Nasheet" or domesticated housewives with male extensions.

Therefore, I decided to make my famous declaration ....

A woman may only have a maid if she can pay her salary (from her own salary)

For the interesting people who are going to say, "hey, what's the difference between his money and her money" or smarter people who will say, "what if she had savings and she was paying the maid from them". The answer to all these questions is that the woman MUST have a compelling reason to have a maid.

    • If she's a working woman, then it's fine
    • If she goes to school, then it's fine
    • If she has more than 4 kids, then it's fine
    • If she's is sick then it's fine
    • If the kids have special needs, then it's fine

But to get a maid so that she can ESCAPE from the chores of a HOUSEwife. Then that's NOT fair! Because the men are working. And providing for the family. And they're greeted with MORE WORK in the evening!

Before anyone converts this to a male vs female tug of war. I just want to say that it's not about who gets what! It's about sharing the responsibility of a house. What I'm seeing is completely the opposite. I'm seeing more chores and work being pushed onto the man, while women are taking the rest as A RIGHT! But I'm so glad that this is not the case with all women :)

    Memories....

i feel that it is my right to have someone do the housework for me...life is never fair!
    Who gave you such right?!
Besides, you're not a 22 year old newly wed with not a single worry in the world.

Sigh. Qwaider, I agree with you on the house-helper phenomenon to a degree; but I must say I am glad I am not under your authority as a wife! I have a helper once a week, because my husband is a gentleman! He doesn't necessarily want to come home to me exhausted and smelling like dettol. He works hard at work, and I work hard at home, we thank each other immensely for what we do for one another. When I started working part-time, imagine, HE chose to pick up slack instead of  getting more help.
I agree that maids should be brought in the cases you describe above, but i still think that a housewife needs a rest from time to time. Well, she doesn't have to have a full-time maid, especially if they can't afford it, but what I am suggesting is that it is her right to have somebody like your "Loopita" to do the tough work every now and then.. like cleaning carpets, washing windows, overall house cleaning.. etc..
And a further notice, why are you doing this?? you really are freaking girls out.. Do you wanna end up not married forever, and then enjoy doing the house work all alone? Loopita will not be there for you for good :D
(that is a joke, but really... single gilrs do not like to hear all this whining from a single guy about their convinience!... loooooool)

what is up with u these days....??? so harsh with ppl around u!!!
    Kinzi,
Thanks dear, but what I'm saying here is not against getting additional help when help is needed. In fact, I consider that the right of every working woman.
What I tried to exaggerate (to prove a point) was that there is no need, unless the lady is too busy to do it.
As much cliche as this sounds, this is the real idea behind sharing responsibilities. If the man works, and the wife decides to stay home. Then each one has the work cut out for them

By the way, I'm much nicer than I hope to be. Way too soft and mushy when it gets to the real issues

I'm glad my dear that you see my point. This is what I expect from someone with your caliber. You do also have an amazing memory. You even memorized the name of my housekeeper! (wow! Are you stalking me or something :))))
I agree, the wife needs rest, exactly like the man does. He works all day, comes back home. Unless we're living in the 18th century, he would have his chores ready for him.

As for getting married, who knows :) I might find someone that is really, "my type"

PS: I'm not trying to get hitched through this blog. I dump my mind here, not "accept applications"

    Afaf
Yep ... laish la2 :) But that's a completely different aspect to it all

    Summer
Harsh!? What are you talking about, that was just the right answer. No one has the right to "not do anything" while the other party does everything! You're such a lucky woman :D
Age has nothing to do with it, if the lady is able to continue to do whatever she needs to do. But there comes a time that she gets too tired too easily and this is a good reason for her to be able to hire some helping hands. It's ok! Cases like these are perfectly fine

    Afaf,
There's nothing harsh here. We're not in kindergarten. I'm not directing this at anyone in specific (I SWEAR), it's jut my view on things, And therefore people may agree or disagree, it's really their choice

i would love to have a maid..and believe me, house work is not equivelant to a workout at the gym! unless u r scrubbing floors and working all day long which would not be fair..sure a husband works outside his home....but then he comes home and rests..where as a mother never rests untill the kids are in bed..then comes the last batch of tidying up after the kids and the husband...i so need a maid..or a lobitta at least! bas to some extend i do agree with u on this maid thing...i can not imagine having a live in maid...i'd like someone to come few times a week just to help out with the annoying jobs...i soo want to hire someone to do my laundry...ok i'll stop now...did i make any sense...im off to bed..
Compare that to my mother. 4 kids, a husband and A JOB, and yet she managed to get her Masters degree under all these circumstances!
    Oh, and no maid
my mom got her bachelors after she delivered her sixth, and she never got a maid but damn she complains EVERY MINUTE about it, i really wish my father would just let her have a maid!

off the record: did u know that by Islam, house chores are not the woman's responsibility? those days, women got themselves slave maids maybe thats why men never complained, they came for free, neyyalhom :s
I'm totally against "permanent maids", the ones you get from other countries to work for u all the time all week..
I think cases like (when a maid comes once a week to a house full of kids (or so) to help out) are more acceptable to me.
