There are some people in this world are just super hard to deal with. They nag (when it's not their position, and to people who don't even care). They get too sensitive of things. They consider everything as part of their Dignity, Identity, Manhood and they would immediately take the most negative attitude against you and the whole world around them. And they allow the hard-to-deal-with-gene shine

Gene: A gene is generally defined as the unit of hereditary material (DNA) that causes a particular phenotype (generally assumed to be caused by a protein).

Couple of people would be in a meeting room, everyone getting along just fine. Then one person feels like he's objecting to everything based on nothing! And people start feeling that it's really hard to deal with the guy. "We're not asking you to give up your ancestral land, we're just asking for a better due date". To which he responds, "Over my dead body".

Sad part is... in many cases the guy is an Arab. More precisely, a Pali/Jordanian. These two have the highest tendency of naturally having the "hard-to-deal-with" gene. The concept of "give and take" or compromise seems to be lacking!

The sad part is that it sometimes works, and it helps intimidate the people in front of the person. What's even more sad is when an entry level guy is using these tactics against senior management causing them to keep him in their, [bad] thoughts

    [skip wisdom]
In the corporate world, Management has an infinite capacity to remember everything negative you've done. At the end of the day, the management's duty is to reward the individual contributor to least possible award that they can. The negative "thoughts" reservoir provides a wealth of information to "justify" this action.

I know.... I know, that's an extremely broad, anti-machiavellian statement, but consider this: Management has an obligation to make the company succeed. Successes is often measured financially. To do this your Income - cost = positive number (today, tomorrow, and beyond). Properly rewarding employees will mean "cost" has shot up more than expected. Making the Positive number smaller. In other words, the company is less profitable and the bottom line is that it's less successful!
    [end of wisdom]

    Back to the gene.
    This gene is interesting.

    1. It might be naturally triggered (a person who is always frowning, aka Jordanian).
    2. It might also be situational. Triggered if the right stimuli is applied to the person. (Few hours at a road block in the west-bank, aka Palestinian)
    3. It might also be selective, (A mean husband throwing away the meal because it doesn't have enough salt, aka typical Arab)

Those were strong examples to allow the reader to contrast between the different types. But to tell you the truth, the number of variants is unlimited. There are so many different subtle difference making every case almost a category on it's own

What's very apparent of people who suffer from this issue are two things:

    1. Extremely volatile personalities
    2. Extremely explosive responsive too violent for the situation

An interesting act in an old Arab play from the 80's or 90's I'm not sure, where a very short small man. With a very loud voice. Challenging the 6' something giant next to him saying "Ma ti2darsh" (You can't) while the guy can just flick his wrest and kill the little man! Yet, he continues to say "Ma ti2darsh" as the giant picks him up and carries him around!

Every time, you allow your issues to escalate, you have lost a little. Every time you resort to your management to resolve your conflicts you have wasted their time, and proved to them that you can't handle issues. But most importantly, you failed to agree or come to a compromise where you show maturity in what you do. What is the result? There's no written rule about the results in this case. But if you're one of these people who continuously think they're underpaid, haven't been promoted for a while, or even when you do, you didn't get what you deserve. Think about ... The gene!

If you're one of those who practice this at home.... may god have mercy on your significant other and the rest of the family. Seek help, tone your self down or do anything. Just don't allow it to propagate to another generation

    Memories....

Well Q, very good post and you hit the nail with many points, I would just like to add that, that gene exists with non-Arabs as well, believe me I had to deal with my fair share of them. I feel that what also triggers it is the unrealistic self value some people have for them selves, in some cases its countries in general like Americans, or the British.
the funny thing is that That same gene did not keep our land from getting stolen, and those taxes within limit of 9 or 13%, or us from being daily ripped off by governmental and local companies (bedeash asammi) i think the pali/jordi gene makes us the most easy going nation on earth! we give in too fast... those guys u described r ppl with very low self esteem, they feel threatened at all times! ofcourse, faqed al shay2 la yo3teeh
