    Vanity, definitely my favorite sin

    -Satan
    (from the movie Devil's Advocate)

    dev

Who hasn't fallen to vanity at some point in their life? Been right on a number of issues, or someone inflated your ego to the point that you feel victim to it.

If you think you're alone, then think again. You're not. In fact, the first creature to fall to vanity was Satan himself as he fell from grace. From his position as almost an Angel to being condemned and banished to all eternity.

Many super achievers fall victim to this. From Scientists, to Leaders, to prophets. Who later on discovered that and repented.

Can you see how this can reflect to our blogospheric ecosystem? Someone might have fallen to it due to seeing people's comments on their blogs. Or the big amount of traffic? Or the strategic alliances or friendships that have been wielded over time.

To discover that you have an amount of vanity is not an easy task. Sometimes people must let you know. Many fall to it .. many are diagnosed with it. They may or may not have it.

One of the ugliest forms of vanity is religious vanity. When someone thinks that he's better than others because of few additional prayers... falling the same type of vanity as Satan himself.

The highest level of perfection in dealing with vanity is when you're able to hide it from others. That would be the Oscar performance of a lifetime. But, would anyone be able to hide it from oneself?

My question to everyone, look yourself in the mirror, and think. Am I committing this sin?

Then look back at me (yes me personally) and tell me ... have I fallen victim to it too?

    Memories....

    well,may be i have,,bas wenaby ana tayeba..beythaya2ly sa3b..bas maybe..
    elmohem elghaba2 mayeb2ash 7asawy ledaraga tkhally elwa7ed a3ma khales..
great question Q..we should really ask ourselves..maybe we'll get something!!
I can't really tell if you've changed over the years, I've only been a visiting your blog regularly the past couple of months, but I haven't noticed any change in your attitude.
I look at myself in the mirror, and I like what I see!! i am not hiding it either.
Everyone is a victim of their own vanity in more than one way...this includes me and you!
It is not a sin...and i do not think one should feel victimized by it! Some of us choose to be this way...i am not a sinner!
Oprah once almost had an airplane accident but things went smooth, she says that she looked at newman (or whoever her partner was) and he said: dont worry, God did not bring u this far to take ur life away this way!!?!?!? and the audience actually applauded! THAT is vanity!

u have been writing a lot more than before lately, could that be falling into it? or is it just blogoholic :)

i'm not really proud of it but i am vain...i wouldn't mind a small pinch of vanity but i often catch myself saying/thinking under such negative vain influence.
as for telling you if you're vain as well...i don't think i pretty much can do that. but i like your posts. most of what i read of them anyway!

I misread the openining line as 'Vanity favours sin' and was coming here to applaud that saying :p was going to say something along the lines of 'vanity is the predominant force driving us towards sin' like selfishness, arrogance etc.

but since I was wrong, I will simply agree that yes I HAAATE those who  bang on about being 'religous' while looking down their nose at you... people who preach irk me, as I find it also to be one of the best ways of pushing people away from that which you are trying to bring them to.

with me, everytime I near confidence (never mind full blown vanity) something always comes along to knock back on my bum again :)
It's good that we always have things to remind us that ... we're still vulnerable, we're still fable, and we're still only human
