A group of young Arab bloggers have joined forces to bring to the world the wealth of experiences they have accumulated. Driven by their shared longing to the homelands, ArabExpats brings you their experiences, their stories and captures a glimpse in the daily suffering of every apple, far from it's tree.

The effort was kindled by the efforts of Who-sane, who was later joined by the rest of the expats to present this new blog that deals the hopes, dreams and fears of expats.

The Expats were united through their feelings of longing and belonging.

I know many people keep saying "Count your blessings", "You don't have the problems that we have here". But these people don't know the price we pay for our choice. Sure, the money is good, freedom is wonderful, life is easy .. true. But wouldn't any one of these expats give all of that up for an evening with the family, drinking mother's coffee, talking to siblings, and their offsprings. Or maybe going out late at night around town, just marvelling at the lights and the laughs and screams of bystanders

The more I think about it, the more I realize that the price we pay for the "perks" we enjoy is so dear. It's not like we have all the time in the world to "make it" and then go home...

I don't know the future, I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. But I do know that I have a room in my parent's house, that will always welcome me warmly, and one day, I'm going there to sleep in my bed... The bed that my father paid for, and my mother prepared for me ... and right then.. I'll feel .... home

Great post Q. It seems that even though we've got some great privileges and advantages out here in the west, there is always that little touch of culture and spice missing everywhere you go. BTW I'm in Montreal.

One of my [perhaps personal] problems associated with this is that I think once you leave home, you'll never really have a "home". The foreign country where you live just isn't home enough for you. You visit back home and yet it isn't the same home you left inscribed in your memories- it's never as good as you last remember it. The warmth of your bed and your mother's voice may take you back to that memory when all was good; but it's just that - a temporary moment lived out of a memory.

THE NEW LAND
