Just about anywhere you go .... you will notice that office politics are sometimes more important than work it self ... It's quite amazing the levels people reach to please up, and down. You know things are not going well, when how much you "advertise" your work becomes more important than actually performing it ... it's quite amusing at times

A "colleague" grabbed my arm out of a meeting ... indicating his interest in having a "private" discussion ... I went alone just to see how I can help.

Turns out, some people were upset at my "realistic" assessment to how much work it takes to finish a specific task. Which lead to some people feeling nervous because, it seams that I have blown their cover regarding the amount of work needed

From my post, I was able to see that it takes X amount of time. But, people wanted 4X time. So that they can finish in 2X amount of time and seem as if they have "parted the red sea"

I feel sorry that things seem to have come down to this. But from the looks of it ... that's how things are done!

Here's the sad realization. If you finish your work quickly, people get upset, because you make them look bad. If you are slow, management get upset. And if you make people think you're working more than you really are you get more credit ...

    Sad!

    Memories....

Do what you have to do.
You are right, this is why sometimes workers who do jobs in the street sometimes don't make things like before, to prove that they did something.
what you are saying is true.. bas la7le7ha shwayyyyy enta eltaniii.. 7aram,, let people enjoy extra time doing a task :D

    you are soooooooooooooo right!!
I hear ya… it’s all about politics .. not so long ago I got in trouble for the same reason .. people kept complaining that they don’t have enough time to get the job done.. ALTHOUGH I used to finish it waaaaaaaaay before the deadline when I used to do what they are doing right now… I ended up the trouble maker… ::sigh::
You're very right:  office politics are everywhere.  It's how the game is played.  Having just come off of publishing a book on the topic (GUST - The "Tale" Wind of Office Politics), I can appreciate your predicament.  "Snake" politicians do not like to have their cover blown (in this case, telling how long a job actually takes).

If it helps, there will always be these kinds of interactions in the work place.  The trick is knowing how to manage them proactively before they get blown out of proportion.

    Good luck!
