The craze started with Superstar, and the nationalistic phenomena known as Karazonism erupted so violently to draw a major wedge between people from all countries. Suddenly, talent, worth, experience, and genuine aptitude were all irrelevant to success. What mattered the most is how much sentiment could you collect to propel a contestant into stardom by collecting all the leaked resources from people's pockets down the drain of vicious networks and producers. Boasting hundreds of millions in revenue.

That probably wasn't a good start to match the title, but, I did manage to see a silver lining to this cloud...

Surprisingly, if you pay close attention to some of growing trends. Although so many people have continued to stick rigidly to their positions in the older shows. This has progressed so dramatically for the majority of the Arab audiences following such shows and I think if we're being very conservatives. These amount to tens of millions.

The amount of cheese and cheap theatrical moves coupled with bad acting have become reached new heights previously only reserved for soap operas. From faking interest, to faking emotions to faking agreement or even faking talent

The lest successful are appealing to their localized nations (who after a while have lost interest). These localized attempts are becoming less and less successful and with time people are falling out of favor. Especially after the felt the bite in their pocket after the first round of Karazonism.

The spirit of competition makes the whole nation proud. That's what you get when your team wins in Sports for example. Not by voting! Two very distinct methods to achieve success.

Anyway, that was an interjectory paragraph, but back to the ever thinning silver lining I was talking about. If you pay close attention you will notice a level of acceptance to Arabs from different and non-adjacent countries. Even countries that have been known to be at each other throats are ever playing nicely with each other. In a way, that even Abdul Nasser would envy.

Not only are people accepting of other accents, but they're starting to understand each other. Thereby accomplishing through these corny shows a level of unity that have eluded all other Arab Nationalistic movements. I'm sure being united behind Razan's bosom is much nicer than Nasser's stick. Apparently, many went by it, the other way around. I'm sure many Arab nations would have united behind Marline Monroe than all Arab leaders of that time.

I think all of these new phenomena are ushering in a new era, governments need to start paying attention to these alternative unifying mechanisms. Reading about what unites people in books is one thing. Experiencing it through the word, music, visual appeal might be a step closer towards the Arab dream...

Call me romantic .... But I still feel goose bumps when I hear those words.... No matter how unlikely it is... something deep inside is hardwired to it ...  Just the belief that our greatest potential is yet to be realized ...

    qwaider... i tagged you .. sorry i didn't inform u i didn't know that i have to ..
    thank u :)
Razan's bosom? Nasser's stick? You lost me there :(
Ever since I was a student at UK, I've hated those cheap excuses for fun "and this was even before the craze reaching us!" ! But to tell you the truth it was an interesting change at the beginning ! The only reality show I watch these days is survivor though !

Regarding the affect on unification, well, I really doubt it has a positive one, mate ! in fact the only thing you notice at these shows would be the breaking of contestants and fans into regions ! Notice how the Saudis and Kuwaitis only vote for their nationals this also applies to the rest of us ! So I think your point here is invalid mate ;)
I still hate them ALL... And that Razan! She makes all of us women feel ... well .. deflated!
