If you ever read the very interesting novel by Kosiński titled "The Painted Bird" and you're not familiar with the term from eastern Europe (Poland). It's when the boy in the novel accompanies a bird catcher, who "for entertainment" would enjoy a cruel sport known at the time(WWII era). Where the locals would capture a bird, paint it with colors and then set it free. Then entertain as they watch the bird desperately trying to rejoin it's kin, and the flock rejecting what they assume to be an intruder. So they attack the bird to death.

    Painted

When I look at the current situation of many Jordanians, Palestinians and Jolistinians. I see the cruelty I just mentioned reflected onto almost everything in their lives

So many get confused with the new colors that the society, circumstances and conditions applies to some people and slowly, but surely they start losing their distinctive smell and whenever they try to rejoin their kin, they're attacked almost to death because they appear to be different.

Part of the novel talks (controversially) about the types of people who enjoy these practices that (peasants) but that can successfully be grafted to all segments of society. Just as 7afartal can exist in all classes, same goes to close mindedness and bigotry.

It's very important to realize that someone that doesn't look like us, and doesn't talk like us, or doesn't share the same perspective or ideas is not necessarily a traitor or has ill intentions but is a member of the society with an opinion that should be honored, respected and protected.

We need to change that about our mentality. Our kin is not necessarily our friend. They're also not our enemies. And the opposite is absolutely true. What we need to change is our attack mentality. Someone stating their mind should really attack people with that, and at the same time someone hearing it shouldn't feel that it's a personal attack

You've heard this before but the situation we're in is a failure to listen. It's a failure for everyone to listen an comprehend. Isn't it enough that we're a nation that doesn't read. Now we're a nation that doesn't listen .. and if we continue on this path, we're going to be the nation that no longer exists.

With all our weaknesses, we'll end up being assimilated by a superior ideology. If this is what we want, then we shouldn't wait. But if this is not ..... then we know what we need to do.. Open our heart and mind and make sure we're not attacking and killing our own kin just because they're displaying different colors

Mohannad- we have all undergone different experiences regarding this issue, depending on our roots, where we were brought up, how we were treated as a result of the previous two factors.
Regarding this whole topic [your post and the other posts behind it], to me this sounds as wrong as using wasta to eliminate wasta..what we really  need to do is stop judging in hope that one day, we will stop being judged in return [ofcourse, I remain skeptic :)]. Everyone has the right to label themselves as they choose, but not to condemn others for their choice!
I for one agree with you all in that it's sad that we're even discussing this. Why do we insist on drawing more barriers rather then erasing the multitudes we already have drawn for us?!
reading is a form of listening, and since we all just like to talk you will find rare ocassions of both forms of listening.

    Nice post !

"Everyone has the right to label themselves as they choose, but not to condemn others for their choice!"
That says it all!! I am not against saying you are from a specific place orginaly, but you can't ask someone who lived in a country and never knew a homeland except for it to say he from another place, as I said in my post when someone whose family name is tamimi(7abib albi)says he is jordanian of palastenian origins that doesn't make him a traitor to his roots!!And because I am as described"pure jordanian" have no right to talk about this issue...And at the same time I don't disable commenting when I feel embaressed or has no answers, when you are wrong you have to admit that you are wrong, don't be like BUSH and his accomplished mission(today is the anniversary), don't be like right wing mule:D
    Qwaider,
Nice banner, but you don't want to be charged with terrorism charges for putting a mosque on the skyline of seatle:D
    Mohannad
Thanks bro, you're always welcome to read and enjoy :)

I am a proponent of Judging. But doing it responsibly. We just can't live in this world without being judgemental, even at the subconscious level
Now, judging needs to be based on facts and ideas, not irrelevant things like gender, race, creed, tribe, family name or all that other junk
We all have the right to dismiss and criticize the best of ideas. There's nothing wrong in that, in fact that's actually very healthy. But we shouldn't do that based on the junk I just mentioned. Additionally we should keep our personal emotions outside of it

Yes, it's sad that we discuss these things. It's sad that we discuss social injustice, it's sad that we discuss honor killings, it's sad that we discuss government corruption, it's sad that we discuss poverty, famine and lack of accessible education to billions. But it's our duty as people who have a voice, and a mind a little bit less occupied with putting food on the table to rise up to such a challenge and think of ways to better human existence. Be it in Jordan or anywhere else in the world

    Tamara,
Thank you, I completely agree, reading is a form of listening

    Take it easy man ..
I too think that you really don't need to be a descendant of the place to fight and even die for it. Just ask Nayef 7awatmeh, or Guevara or many other freedom fighters around the world.

    That's a cameo .. :) just like in the movies ;-)
This is unrelated to the topic at hand, I want to comment on the blog header, I never liked the old one but never said anything because inta 7or.

I really like this one better :).
This is my much "older" header, but I'm glad you like it better ... :)
I'm really not a graphic artist. I can make things functional and usable, but I just cant make them pretty
This was a great post, Qwaider. Very well done.
lol Q, why don't you outsource it?

Barter your technical skills with someones artistic skills.
    Eedi bzonnarek ... :(
Ok, so you need a panoramic picture? Is that it? Is there something in particular you like? Do you have pictures you want to incorporate? Does it have to be a picture? I can try and do soemthing for you :).

By the way Q, are you an MCSE? Or MS certified in general? I used to be an MCT (Microsoft Certified Trainer) before I came to Canada in 2001; used to train on the NT then 2000 MCSE track, been a while though now, I haven’t upgraded my certification since then.
7aki check my photo site.. http://www.sweetestmemories.com
Yeah, MCSE + a bunch of other things :)
Wow Q this new header is awesome, love it love it. This is it I think.

See you have artistic skills you just need to work harder at it..lol.

    It is yours, isn't it?

So Q, how can you make a transitioning header? I think these are the nicest.
