Alright... I've been craving the sharpness and elegance and beauty of big screen HDTV's for few years now. But their prices were just insane. I wanted to get something with 1080P (that is 1080 horizontal lines progressive) compared to Interlaced which really means half the number of lines. Of course the more the better.

So today, I became the proud owner of an eye piercing, retina-shattering-sharpness of a 47" LCD 1080p High Definition TV. And oh my god is this thing AMAZING, HUGE, WOW!

Alright, let me rephrase that. It's WOW only if you're receiving some "Good" HD programming. But if you're on the stupid satellite signal then... well you're out of luck! The stupid receiver is .... barely working in 480i mode (YES THAT SUCKS) if you know what I'm talking about.

So here's the end result. Because the TV is huge, and has a lot of definition. The older stuff will just not show it's full potential! That's problem #1. Which leads to problem #2, replacing everything hooked up to it! (yes, that sucks too)  and all the new components are even more expensive!!

I played a DVD, and I just couldn't get my eyes off of it! I was glued to the crisp, vivid images .. and even then it was running in 480i mode. (The TV supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 720i, 480p, 480i) as you can see. 480i is the LOWEST of ALL resolutions!

Anyway, I'm pretty excited ... and the picture clarity on it's own is enough to keep me excited for a while ....

    Memories....

    Dear Qwaider,

Your blog is so interesting, and I liked your writings and thoughts in the posts in it so much.

Here, in Gaza in Palestine, we're just watching the TV with the satellite programs of NileSat and ArabSat. We don't use DVD except a little.

I hope you can visit me in my blog and share my thoughts there.

    Yours sincerely,
    Dr. Bassam Al-Badri

Mabrook.  Any excuse to spend money on home entertainment is a good excuse, I think.
Never regret getting a good TV, once the world cup starts in 2010 you'll know you've made the right thing

Hot stuff!! Love big screen tv's.. mabrook man! :D
More toys to take with you to your bedtime bath?
Men are such babies! You should really find a hobby, like spending money on women! instead of these toys. I bet that BIG TV doesn't entertain as much.
You think the DVDs looked sharp? Wait until you start watching Bluray movies on it.
    Thanks guys ...
You know what? .I was able to see amazing clarity when I moved back like 20 feet... Lol ... no more watching TV in the living room :)

The worst part was the Arabic channels on Dish... they were painful to watch. While everything else looked great

    Mabrook Q ! :)

I think its a good investment if you ask me ! :) HDTV is gonna be big but not in this area of the world until 2009 or thats what they keep saying (Channels wise)so I'll hold my horses I bit longer ! ;)

A good addition to your bit of eyecandy would be getting the apple tv box ! it supports HDTV and has lots of movies & series which are HD compatible !

Have fun with your new toy mate ! :)
    Dear Qwaider,
But tell me why The worst part was the Arabic channels on Dish and everything else looked great

Welcome Dr, glad to see you here. Ahlan wa sahlan
Let me tell you something from someone who has had the pleasure of using HD for over a year now in both 720p and 1080p from different vendors.

The main conclusion besides that content is most important is that Full HD is marketing tool, and while sitting at the couch (as opposed to glued to the set) 720p looks exactly the same as 1080p.

And since you already bought the full HD thing, I recommend my latest buy BBC's Planet Earth in HD-DVD. BRILLIANT.

I enjoy nothing more than watching this, and its the only thing that my wife, my daughter and my self can sit together and watch for hours marveling at God's great creations. Best money I ever spent.
