Arab bloggers in the US should already feel the trend. It's completely silent from the homeland ... and why? It's the weekend, and people don't like to blog during their own personal time

It appears that people only blog on company time in good old Jordan. Want proof? Check the number of posts on the weekend (starting with Thursday night)

There might be many reasons for what happens on the weekend. People might really want to switch off and spend time with family and friends and completely relax offline.

But that's not the only reason. Many apparently, only blog during business hours, spending hours of company money on their own private ventures.

Some might argue that it only happens during their time off, or lunch break, or all their work is done. So they have the time to waste. Maybe all of that is true, maybe not. The bottom line is, social online activity is preferred to work. Heck even solitaire on the PC is preferred to work

I've noticed this pattern for a very long time now and it's just very obvious.

Here's another observation, people blog more on a school night than on a weekend night. Again, it might be due to the fact that they want to spend more time with the family and friends. But there might be other reasons too. It appears that people would rather spend time from their evenings when they're supposed to have chores doing things they enjoy, like being active socially online. Than finishing homework, or getting a good night of sleep for the big next day coming up

I think if we dig deeper in these patterns we will spot a number of trends. Most importantly the behaviors of Internet users. The way they spend their time and how. And possibly come up with ways to better serve them. For example, an article posted on Thursday night, will not get as much traffic of appreciation as an article posted on Monday for example. Because the one on Monday will be seen by more people just by the virtue of being posted during those peek times.

If this is the case, then it might also be important for online publications to target their release around the beginning of the week. Would that make it more popular? Everything is possible

I agree with you on the trend, but for you as an example I think by now you know your "loyal" visitors, those visitors have an effect in creating traffic to your blog..Those are the ones that should matter more..

For me, if i'm home, it means i'm online, and i'm always home weekdays. I notice that when i have alot of school work to do online, I end up wasting alot of time on blogs, facebook, MSN, ebay and every other unnecessary past time. If I don't have much school work to do, then i am probably not in my room nor online for that matter.
Time passes by alot faster when you're online for non academic or work related issues :) I wouldn't say it has decreased anyone's efficiency in terms of work output though. Before it was probably the phone and little smoke and wc breaks- now it's this.

Blogging from work is so cool if you're the employee. If I was a business owner, I'd fire an employee if I catch him/her blogging. I know, double standards, but if he's wasting my money blogging then he should go somewhere else and do it.

I noticed traffic is less on the weekend and less posts as you said.

Another factor could be no pc at home or a slow connection at home that would kill like dial up

When I was in Amman I never checked stuff at home because it was slow, the phone bill increased and the company charges for extra activity, keeps the phone line busy, maybe this changed now since it's been 6 years for me since I left.

I'm like you I do it everywhere but more at home.

bardeo 3indee wijhet nazzar (ana dayman 3indee wijhet nazzar) i personally work from home (freelance, so when internet disconnects u see me washing the car!) but when i was an employee i did not mind blogging from work nor when i come back from work, and i dont think my boss minds, and if i ever hire anyone i do not mind either... lieh? because in amman we are NOT expected to work 9-5 then have a life, we get paid for that, but we are expected to work 8 - 8! and if u want employees to stick around after 6:30 (official off time in amman) u gotta give them some slack. i remember only the BEST most talented developers used to go out for longer lunches, have ciggerette breaks and stay till 9 pm and come on weekends (recently the trend is to kick everybody out on weekends sort of to grow the habit of having a life in them!)
i remember i used to come to the office at 6:30 AM and leave at 6:30 PM (or sometimes 8 PM) and i did that to have the luxury of 1:30 hours break, a nap after lunch, and personal time on the net... and i know others who do that, so there goes the OTHER point of view, we are the OTHERS :)

I like the fact that people blog less during the weekend, it would be very bad if we spend the same amount of time in front of a screen all the time weekends or other. some people have different styles of life but for most its very healthy not to touch a keyboard for 48 hours, God knows we spend too much of our lives typing away.

I blog from work as well. Actually you need some outing when you are tied infront of your computer screen for 9 hours! Blogging can provide some fun, and actually give me someting to look forward to at work.

My co-workers now joke on me blogging when they want to make fun that I dont work altough I work a lot, people waste their time in different ways at work, I like to take my 10 minutes break to write a post or check other blogs.

Folks, don't get me wrong. I'm not against people doing anything the way they like it to be done. I'm fine with that. As long as people consciously make that decision. And not to actually waste their company time.

Anyway... The trend is kind of annoying (for us living in the west) because there comes times where we have nothing new to read!

but there are lots of us still in north american and europe who still blog...anyways...i really hated when i worked and did not have an internet access...i would fall asleep..u need an outlet sometime!!:)
