For the past couple of years, I've been waiting for the technology to mature enough to make my dream come true. To be able to listen to radio (MazajFM) from back home in my car, while driving.

Today, I can say.... It came true... here's the schematic of how it works

    btstream
Can someone shout, XM Killer? just imagine, thousands of radio stations from around the world with no satellites to launch!?

Alright, so I got a BlackJack phone with all you can eat data plan. ONLY! So I don't use it as a phone at all! I just use it to browse the internet, stream audio, email, pda .. and the likes. Why? Because I already have a phone and it already works great.

But here's the catch, even with 3G you can't do Voice AND Data at the same time. So I can either stream audio OR talk on the phone.

And the amount of wires needed makes it very ugly to have in ANY car! (I have always struggled with the stupid cables) and Bluetooth came to the rescue.

Alright, the problem with Bluetooth is that it's mono, so I really get stereo out. Until .... A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) which allows for streaming bluetooth AND in stereo. (sometimes referred to as bluetooth v1.2)

So I got this little device over a year ago (A bluetooth streaming bridge) and I just couldn't use it (because Imate still didn't release A2DP, although I have a hacked version, I didn't feel comfortable using it)

Anyway, without too much technical jargon, it works by streaming the audio (just as you would on your PC) but to the phone, over 3G (also works great with Edge). And then the stream is carried over using Bluetooth to the little device which is connected straight to the car stereo.. And guess what!!  IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!

Amazingly so well, I didn't believe my own ears. I drove for over an hour just to enjoy one of my most favorite hobbies, driving while listening to the great tunes of MazajFM.... ahhhh ... It was worth it!

Best part, the minute I get away from the car, the audio transfers to the speaker on the phone :) When I get back to the car it automatically hands off to the car bluetooth device! This is just heaven!

AND NO CABLES!!! Now I finally have a use for bluetooth!

I would like to see iPhone do that :) LOL!

Oh, last time I did something similar was... here and here

Nice, nice stuff...maybe you should get it patented and start selling this system or something.

I'm confused what do you do for living?
Well Firas, I should have patented this couple of years ago. It's too late now.

Soon, we will start seeing head units that support this!
As for what I do .... :) Well ... many things. Lets just say if you're reading this, then you're using a portion of my work
    Occupational hazard.
    Wow ...
We need someone to hang a curtain .. I'll give you $5 ... interested?
I knew it… I knew that I will write about it LOOOOOOOOOOL :) this is BREAKING NEWS for you :D ….
Good for you Q.. bs el sara7a… I’m jealous .. I’m so happy for you, but I’m still jealous :( .. beddiiiiiiiiiiii mennoooooo …
By the way I have a picture for the inventor of the blue tooth. it turns out he is SYRIAN and is running for elections!!
This is not an Invention, it's a standard (just like TCP/IP of the Internet)
The original draft for the protocol was proposed in 1994 and was the IP of Ericsson at the time, to be more exact "Sven Mattisson" and "Jaap Haartsen", later on they were joined by IBM, Sun, Toshiba and Nokia as a method of communicating between devices. (around 1998)

After that, the interest picked up around the world and people started finding uses for the technology beyond the intended (mouse wire replacement) idea.
Then Microsoft and Motorola joined the group and two different incompatible bluetooth came to exist until recently ...

So, no, it wasn't a Syrian dude!
Where do u live exactly? to be needing to stream mazaj. And how is the quality of sound before it reaches the bluetooth? is it continuous streaming? doesnt that cost a lot? internet over mobiles?

7abeit the part with "automatic handing," talking about SENSATIONAL LOVE for technology ;)
I live in Seattle, Washington State
The quality is fantastic, I wouldn't say it's CD quality, it's not but from my experience back in Jordan, the quality is better than what you hear on your radio IN AMMAN!
The stream is pretty much continuous. unless I hit a very poor coverage area. I drove for couple of hours yesterday with it working. And I don't recall it dropping
Of course your mileage will vary, it depends on how good the coverage is.
It costs $22.39 for me, I have an unlimited data plan for this phone, just to do specifically this type of stuff. Data, Internet and the likes.
    Qwaider,
I was just Kidding, I have a picture on my blog from the syrian elections, and he is running on the idea that he invented the blue tooth!!Thats all!I know all the info you said, I meant to make you laugh..
yeah, and Al Gore invented the Internet!
    He will save earth too!!
Well done Q! Looks really amazing!

    Enjoy :-)

hey man great job i just have one question and an advice lol.
the question is which program did you use to type in the link of mazaj radio.
my advice is buy the bluetooth ready car stereo from sony its awesome and get you a cell that does A2DP and you are set no wires and no nothing.
thanks. i am using windows media player. it's a windows phone :)
i didn't want to mess with my head unit and install a new one. so i just hooked up the A2DP to the aux port. and it works fantastically great. the gateway was only $70 only compared to $500+ for a new head unit

    thanks for the suggestions
