This weekend I decided to REALLY take some time off. From everything, life, friends, work, I just want to stay in bed and sleep my eyes fill. So far, so good

I already caught a new movie (Vacancy) was OK, but much shorter than I expected.

This morning, I was craving something good, so I made my famous Shawarma with a fantastic fillet Mignon piece. Yes I know its ends up being very expensive ($13/sandwich) But I love fine cuts, money is no object

I think tomorrow I'm making some Macaroni-with-Bechamel, my most favorite dish in this world.

I have a Polish movie to watch tonight, so there is no time to cook, so I decided to make some "Manakeesh" with Cheese and Za3tar. And I have the perfect cheese for it :) Some nice Italian Fontina, sprinkled with a little a little basil and my little secret ingredient .... olive-oil-butter. Yep, they make butter out of olive oil and it tastes wonderful.

I picked up some Mountain Tomatoes (people from Lebanon know this, it's huge Tomatoes that have amazing taste) I found some locally, and I guess it will be a great addition to the manakeesh!

That's basically it, calm, slow, lazy.... my favorite kind of weekend, next weekend I'm going to hit the road and head to Vancouver, BC in Canada. Yeppie!

    Memories....

I don't want to ruin your day, but this butter contains gelatin(I can't believe it is not butter:) )...And one more thing I recently discovered too, are you ready?
If you take centrum, then you have been eating gelatin too, it is not kosher I checked the website two days ago after recieving an e-mail regarding kosher foods..

    Check it out..
    And yes you are welcome:)
Actually, No the butter I use is 100% vegetable
Here are the contents from their website: Fleischmann's
INGREDIENTS: LIQUID VEGETABLE OIL (SOYBEAN, OLIVE), WATER, SWEET CREAM BUTTERMILK, PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN OIL, SALT, VEGETABLE MONO AND DIGLYCERIDES AND SOY LECITHIN (EMULSIFIERS), POTASSIUM SORBATE AND SODIUM BENZOATE AND CALCIUM DISODIUM EDTA (TO PRESERVE FRESHNESS), PHOSPHORIC ACID (ACIDULANT), ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, COLORED WITH BETA CAROTENE (SOURCE OF VITAMIN A). CONTAINS: MILK
Oh and by the way, I don't believe gelatin is an issue regardless of the source, because it has completely transformed. But, I guess it will always be one of those "loose ends"
You are lucky, me safaget 3elbeh kamleh before the sad realization...The other brand contains animal gelatin!!
Man, it's alright, once it has completely transformed, it becomes halal. It's really no longer containing any traces of the original animal
It's like extracting Calcium from bones. Or Plasma from blood .. etc.

I think the jury is out on this one, although many hard line Muslims made their mind about it already making it Haram. I don't think it is. Or at least not anymore.

I think what is left is getting over the disgust factor, and that's a hard one to get over

qwaider sounds like a great weekend...yum...im making manakeesh for the boys today...i just realized how important zaatar for arabs is...one day i ran out and i had to make an emergency call to mama, and she mailed me zaatar by express mail...my mail box smelled like zaatar for few days..
