Not so long ago, I wrote about the art of movie going. Today, as I was watching another indie I started thinking of things that are bad idea during the movies. I hope people like this list and find it entertaining as much as they are educating and help show courtesy to other movie goers.. At the end of the day, the bottom line is getting you the MOST pleasure out of the movie going experience
It's really important to be courteous to others during the movie ... here's a list to help remind you of things NOT to do
-
Turn your cell phone off!
This is #1 for a good reason. Cell phones are extremely annoying, they make noises, even when they're in silent mode. Worse yet, the new cell phones with huge bright screens that are extremely distracting and annoying
-
No talking.
Nothing ruins the moment like someone talking during the movie. The person next to you doesn't know more than you do. And if you don't pay attention, don't ruin the moment for the person next to you.
-
NO One is interested in your Commentary!
Keep it to yourself! We don't want to hear it. No commentary, no critique, no predictions and no Hints for the actors, they cant hear you, genius!
-
No hats!
It's annoying enough with all the cost cutting going on in theaters all over the world, the seats are getting smaller, the backs are getting shorter and the incline is getting shallower and the tall guy in front of you is challenge enough for you to see the screen. Don't add a higher obstacle for people behind you
-
No Bushy hair, no hair fountains on the top of your head.
Don't make the person behind you think of getting a bush scissor to be able to trim that top hair do!
-
Don't move too much!
Unless you're going to hug the toilet for some out of your control need. Don't annoy people, and don't annoy yourself since you'll be losing moments that you have paid for already! If you think you might go during the movie. Go before! Or hold it!
-
Don't chew too loud!
There is nothing more irritating that someone breaking something with their teeth or chewing something really loud. It's annoying, distracting and gross.
-
Shower before you go!
Not just for the movies, but as a fact of life. Shower... When in doubt .. shower ... even if you just did .. shower again! For god's sake, the theatre is a closed space, with people in very close proximity to each other and from multiple directions. it's extremely disgusting to smell the person 2, 3 or 4 meters away from you.
-
Don't bring foods that have offensive odor
Yes, I know, garlic tastes wonderful, onions make the food taste like magic, but they smell really bad. With every bite you're enjoying from that sandwich, people are suffering. And not only that, they will suffer for a while!
-
Keep your damn iPod in the car
You're going to watch a movie, not show off your white earphones to the crowds. Even worse, listening to music during the movie. Yes we know you're reading the subtitles, but you're not looking any cooler!
-
Get that goddamn stupid bluetooth headset off your head.
No, you're not a wall-street broker, you work at a shoe store, no body wants to talk to you right now. And no, you don't look rich, cool or gadget-savvy with your $20 headset.
-
Keep your foot OFF my chair
You might not know if, but your goddamn foot is poking me in the back.
-
Don't shake your leg,
Yes, vibrations travel to the people around you
-
NEVER take of your shoes!
Ewwwww!
-
Absolutely no flashes!
The movie time is not the time to take pictures to maintain memories!
-
No stupid laser pointers!
Yeah, it was fun when you were 7 years old, you should really grow up! (and might consider moving out from your parent's basement)
-
No snoring!
Yes, count the sheep at home :)
There are many other very annoying things that people might do during movies. Just understand that people have paid money to go watch the movie. Allow them to enjoy it...
Memories....
u know samer, it is hard to go to movie with kids, i know i like to take mo to all movies he likes to watch...but as much as i try to repeat rules of not talking and so on...he is so curious and keeps asking questions about the movie....sometimes i get embarrassed, but hey he is just a kid and this is a kids movie!!!
Have you ever seen the movie pre-view where there is a Barbie? They go through the list of no talking, no cell phones, etc. And when Barbie answers her phone, it catches fire and smokes! It cracks me up everytime I see it! Your post reminded me of that...
Mrs. Al Rahami- we have movie theaters kids are not allowed and some that are only for moms and babies! Business-wise they are doing well.
There are other theatres that allow special days for families with kids.
Finally, Matinee shows should ALL be family friendly, and families (even with babies) should be encouraged to go watch
Someone shouldn't confuse kids with annoying people. Kids are not annoying they're just being kids. It's the Adults that need someone to tell them what not to do ...
afaf take it easy on mr alramahi, we all say these things about kids before we have them...i laugh at the comments i used to make pre kids ...I was clueless!!! :)
Afaf .. take it easy on Mrs Ramahi ... she didn't mean it .. :)
Whisperers,
I know ... take it easy ladies ... :) that person has the kindest heart you can imagine.
yeah when i didnot have a kid i was clueless too...now i know what it means...but its alot of joy on the way....or at least thisis how i see it....
peace to all...
