Back in October, I predicted that Google is getting dumber and is committing stupidity at the highest of levels when they decided to acquire YouTube. I would like to rephrase that to be, Google becoming more and more "Corporately arrogant" that their list of mistakes his piling up. And all those billions will not save the company from doom. Unless they learn from others who were in that seat!

    goog

Remember what happened to giants like IBM, Novell, Intel, Motorola, Sun, Lotus, Microsoft and Apple when they plunged head first in "Corporate Arrogance"? They all got their wealthy corporate behinds royally kicked some didn't even survive it.

Google is apparently heading in the same direction. The very successful company is facing it's largest lawsuit ever. A 1 Billion dollar lawsuit for copyright infringement through their very popular and recently acquired YouTube.

Viacom, the [legacy] media giant is suing because they're claiming that their products have been floating around on YouTube with potentially millions of hits that YouTube used to generate revenue through advertising.

Back in October I said, "But this new acquisition will probably mean a landslide of lawsuits for the "free" service in an unprecedented way in history (probably since the slew of law suits against Napster and Microsoft)", and looks like this is going to be the case. News Corp, GE, NBC And Mark Cuban have all criticized Google, and YouTube for this, with some preparing to wage their own suits against Google

I guess, only time will tell. I hate to see this happen to Google. There isn't a single day that I don't use one of their products or another. But with Privacy issues floating around, media suing and some very dumb ideas from Google. I fear for their future. Not only that, I have fears that this slew of copyright lawsuits might follow us back home ... Where popular services like iKbis is still in it's infancy and taking it's very first steps

Viacom is the owner of Comedy Central, MTV and several others
    NBC owned by GE

Google buying Youtube, and Yahoo buyng Facebook. They say it's all to beneit the internet video world, but I think they are doing this to expand their ads. good luck google!!
P.S.: WOW!! 22 DAYS QWAIDER...good for you! keep it up:D
I don't agree, google can handle this, google is not about youtube, viacom just needs to suck some money and send a message. Google is about innovation which I think they are great at.
Google is like all other big corporates is not about innovation anymore. They're after getting wealthy and stuffing their pockets with more and more money
At the end of the day the result is the same. Give me good products, and take the money you want. No body disagrees. But it's obvious that corporate arrogance has settled in.
I would have agreed completely with you 3 or 4 years go.

    hahaha .. poor Google.. :P
NBC (and the BBC I think) actually entered in a partnership with YouTube. Big music companies like EMI and Warner Music are also trying to be YouTube friendly, and also CBS.

It's not hard for YouTube to remove the bad content and I don't think hits lawsuit will ever amount to anything as serious as Google losing a billion dollars or anything close to that.

I think the risk is not very high.
It's not uncommon for companies to collaborate around items. So they would have issues on one thing but be fine with something else. And this is no exception

If you look at where Google stands. YouTube cost them 1.6 billion dollars to acquire, Add to that a 1billion lawsuit that they might end up losing (many indicate that they might) Which will add another set of lawsuit carnivore hot in their heels. The end result is the same. There are more where that came from and there are no signs of it stopping

Right after this news, Google stock fell $11.72, That's huge.
11/480=.02 which is nothing, still I consider google one of the most respected corporation. I respect them for what they achieved and what they will achieve, time will prove it to you..now it is all about innovation and becoming the adaptive organization..
You respect them for what they "will" achieve?! Wow! If you haven't noticed, the article is talking about Google doing a dumb mistake not about them being respectable or not.
I haven't seem much innovation from Google recently. Just a bunch of lousy ideas that are flopping. And some aggressive/arrogant moves
do agree they are becoming more enterprisey but still google is like a  plush puppy compared to the others you compared it to.
one point i don't agree with you on is the fact that unlike napster of shaman networks is google has the money to get the lawsuit to a stalemate so i don't think they are worried, and probably its just to force them to provide a better collaberation deal.

Google to fall soon is kinda unlikely i think it'll follow after microsoft topples which is pretty soon.

As for innovation yeah haven't seen much in that area recently, but then again they must have something around the corner by now which has been there philosophy.
although they did adjust their google-ads algorithm, tho I don't think its that high on the consumer's list of must dos'
Well Qwaider ... seems you have clairvoyant capabilities :)

If the 'free video' fun moves to Viacom's site, it will be OK. What's important is that we don't end up paying!

Check out my post about it http://zeidnasser.blogspot.com/2007/03/protect-youtube-or-ensure-free-video.html
