Since I've started blogging, I've been faced with tough decisions at times. Some were tougher than others. But today I'm faced with a serious challenge that I quite frankly don't know how to approach, and I call upon you, my lovely readers, to assist me in making my mind

I got a request to add a blog to Qwaider planet, but this was not like ANY other request I've ever had. This one was from a person called "Mohammad" and he's from Jordan. He claims to be a homosexual person living in Jordan.

I have already read about his blog through TheArabObserver, and I refrained from passing judgment. I even went ahead and checked his blog and found some interesting reads.

Now, I'm not sure how to approach this. On one side I have my unshakable belief in diversity and freedom of speech. On the other I have society, and many other constraints.

I'm worried of the consequences and repercussions this might echo. I'm not sure how this is going to effect anyone but there are a number of matters that cause me to worry and get really confused regarding my decision on this.

I need assistance with this decision and I therefore turn to you.... Will you Help?

If you start adding porn sites, and that's exactly what a blog about a man's sexuality, then you will have to add a blog for a necrophiliac, an incestuous lover, a goat lover, a pedophile, etc. Just make an general rule that applies to all people regarding who want advertise their sexual habits: NO SEXUAL SITES, NO PORN SITES. Any site advertising someone's sex life, habits, lifestyle, is their private business and not for the masses. sex, like taking shit pr masturbation, is something that happens behind closed doors.
    live and let live.
    Salam all,

There is a huge point that everyone is missing. This is not a case of censorship. This is a case of organizing Blogs.

You choose to organize  a list of Blogs (Qwaider Planet) with a certain theme, the Blogs you include in your Planet are hand picked with a certain criteria.

Including or excluding Blogs in your Planet has nothing to do with censorship, no one is stopping him/her from expressing their views, but they can do that on their own space not yours.

    Peace

It seems Mr. Gay Jordanian wants people to hear him out but he refuses to let others share their views on his blog unless they agree with him.  I got all of my posts on his blog deleted. Is this a joke? Here is a guy who cries freedom of expression and who demands to be heard, but he is so quick to repress others and censor them. People need to understandthat freedom of expression and speech is a two way street: you demand it, you give it.
I went through lots of his posts, from the most recent ones to the oldest, and what I found is that he is a guy who exclusively talks about his personal sexual life. Here on your planet, I haven't noticed anybody exclusively about their sexual life, be gay/lesbian or straight. I am not interested in reading about anybody's private sexual life and therefore, I agree with hamede, NO add.

well, i donot see anyone of ur ppl on ur blog catogrize them selves according totheir sexual preference...so why should u start now...we donot know any thing about each other's personal life, so why bother to impose it on ur readers...i am with freedom of speech...but come on...it is his personal business and he cannot impose these topics on us...if he would talk like everybody else about normal topics...then fine, but as others say it is all around his sexuality...and i am not gonna say it makes me feel sick, it does, but hey have another catogery to put urself in other than gay guy...plzzzz...donot add according to this thing....plzzzzzz....i am open minded and would never judge ppl like that, but this is ur personal issue and keep it for urself, we donot need to hear about it, cuz we r not interested..
sorry for being so rude and tough, samer, but ....
    peace to all...
I went through his blog as well, and I didn't really like what I read, or to be more specific, I don’t really care about what he is writing about.. I agree with afaf, people in your planet are not categorized according to their sexuality, so don’t open the door for such things… NO ADD FROM ME TOO.

this is one of those things where if you do it some will see you as intolerent and if you dont some will see you as, well, you know.

there's little room for religion, beliefs and morality any more.

    so here's what i think.

you as qwaider, can either stand for something or stand for nothing. it can't be both ways. your planet should be a reflection of that.

i'm not saying you should add blog that only agree with you socially, politically, religiously, morally, etc-ly.

i'm saying judge the blog for its content not its author and his life decisions.

is it what you want others to be reading? is it what your readers want to be reading? young and old? male and female?

    make a content decision.
And allow me to say one more thing that I forgot to mention… imagine Dina (DOT) searching to read some posts on Qwaider Planet, I would love to see anybody explaining to her what this guy trying to say on his blog!!!

    hey hon,

You do what you believe in your heart is right. I tried to join 2 or 3 times iToot or whatever site. They never accepted me or bothered. I think they didn't like my site's title or my site's contents. I don't see it being any different than the rest.

So if you think culturally, and religiously, it's a big no no. But if you think democracy and freedom of speech. Than it is you should add him. He is still an Arab.

    Tough call eh..

I have to agree with Nas. This guy is basically talking about his desires and orientation and will be the topic of his next entries. And frankly, I don't care and that is beyond interesting...so there!
I'm more confused now :(. It IS a "you'd be damned if you did and you'd be damned if you don't"

The part that is annoying me is that this is not a Blogger who happens to be homosexual or whatever. It's a blog about some one's sexual orientation and regardless of the gender or the orientation, the result is still the same. Someone is discussing their sexuality. And Qwaider planet is about anything related to Arabic culture which considers this to be a "behind closed doors" matter
Sex on it's own is not a taboo to Qwaider Planet, actually there are no taboos. But dedicating  blog just for celebrating one sexual orientation or another is a non-goal

I'm still not sure what I should do. I stand for diversity and tolerance, which drives me to accept it. At the same time I do want to be sensitive to the readers. This empathy drives me to not accept it.
    I'm so confused!
I just wrote about this issue 2 day ago, and I was left with the same dillema..Is it right or wrong..I think being gay is a choice he made based on experinces he had..I checked out his blog and read the comments and it seems that he himself edits the comments and deletes what he doesn't like so...I think if it is about freedom of speach he should look at himself first..So dude add his blog but edit his comments if he is trying to publish his own gay agenda..o allah yostorna..the dead sea is 20 miles away:)

this is you website man. if you believe that you can tolerate homosexuality, if you believe that it's okay to play a role in exposing jordan to homosexuality and potentially do something there, then by all means, add him.
but then again, if you don't and his blog isn't about bing a homosexual, then why not add him? i mean, people are entitled to be whatever they want, eventhough i personally disagree with the whole concept of homosexuality, i can still tolerate a gay person and their thoughts on anything else. but as lots of jordanians are, i'm still somewhat homophobic.
again, i say to you, this is your website, this is to reflect your beliefs and thoughts. you must be true to YOURSELF and YOURSELF alone. write down a mission statement, if homosexuality fits in there then it's a different story.
I have read the post and the comments and I agree with u people..I think he shouldn't be added..
    No Qwaider, No no no...
You are responsible and accountable for the content you spread on your website...  I'm talking about your moral obligation... Media is a very powerful tool and you can't just say this is about tolerance, its not... its promotion for a gay community in Jordan, no matter what he says... What is your stand on that issue and that issue alone? Its not about being cool and tolerant...  What is your reference in deciding if something is wrong or not...  There is always a reference... Mine is Islam and it says its wrong just as stealing and prostitution is wrong you might want to steal or be gay and no one can judge you based on what you want at heart if you refraine yourself but when you promote it and when you do it then you're guilty...  What about promoting adultry, a new intersting blog would be about confessions of a prostitute in Jordan...  It's gonna be a hit...

Qwaider don't be a building block in promoting a gay community in Jordan... You're website represents Jordan, this is not Jordan as much as adultary is...
    Q

Every one made a good point, we all blog about our views, beliefs and life in general. but this dude is dedicating the blog to his sexual life ! I don't want to read about that! its not about equal chances or tolerance its about having standards, I don't care what a bloggers orientation is as long as they have QUALITY posts, and diverse ones. which is not the case

    I vote NO

SEX is a personal and private matter. I could care less for someone else's sex life or sexual preferences be it gays, hetro, or necros. so what's next, a hetro blog about a man's sexual conquests with all the girls he screwed from Jordan University? or a girl's sex habits with all the jordanian taxi drivers? I suggest for the sexually active people to start their own blog directory. no one can stop them. or should stop them.

fact is, with the existing blog directories, we don't know and we don't care about the the person's sexual habit so long as they don't shove it down our throat. and yes, it's don't ask don't tell BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE'S PORN.

Jordan is a conservative country and we like it this way. no plans for hetro or gay parades, or necro day, or pedophile freedom week.
If you find it appropriate, and are ready to take the consequences go ahead and do it. However, if I were you, I would never put myself in such a situation where I endorse other people's views, neither socially, politically or ethically..in fact, if I were you I might not even add a blog if I did not think it's worth reading..it's your place, your rules..would you add a blog if all its posts were teenage style  celebrity news?I wouldn't ..simply because this is not something I care to check out every day..same goes for the blog in question..but that's just my 2 pence..
Remember very important thing, you are not the "Gatekeeper" of the internet, if you add him, his blog will be displayed among the other blogs in your planet, if not, he will not. It is as simple as that..

Not adding him will not take any right he have, and adding him is not a right of him (or anyone)..
Folks you really need to stop equating homosexuality to Necrophilia, pedophilia and other practices. It's just like what they do here in the west when they equate polygamy with sodomy!

Now as I said, I'm a little bit confused, but hearing from everyone is a good thing. I think I will eventually go with the consensus.

Qwaider planet is not mine alone. Sure, I maintain it. But it's everyone's

but it's up to you to add or not.. if it was me I WOULDN'T!
Wallahi ya Isam ... it's not an easy decision either way. I can hide behind consensus ... but.... !
its the content that we all seek in blogs..but at the end of the day its up to you to add him or not
but i guess he got the attention he wants...there is no need to add him to any planet he now his own planet :)
inta meqtene3? obviously ur not, and thats why ur asking for guidance. ur prolly torn between what u believe (not adding) and what surrounding ppl might think of this act (label u as an intolerant human being) thats my theory :D correct me if im wrong.

its ur place, and ur choice. iza meqtene3 go for it, iza bi3ared what u believe in then dont. full stop :)

look dewd, he wants to spread his thoughts and stuff howweh 7or! yi3mel aggrigator la7alo o yil3ab zay ma biddo as far as i'm concerned! i can sense that you don't want to add his blog, but you're probably a little afraid of the results. mainly that you'll be called an oppressor of truth and freedom of speech! wanna know what i think? i think that if you did not add his blog, and you did called that, just go and say "yes. i'm narrow minded and shallow. got a problem with that? cause if you did, then you're not as tolerant and accepting as you say you are so shut the Effin' hell up and go have a coke"
    la3anno ma 7ada 3ajabo ya zalameh!
ba3dein you have a social responsibility towards the jordanian bloggers, already i can tell that the people do not want him to be added. so just dont!
In the end, the ultimate decision is yours to make. But you do mention that you believe in freedom of speech. True you need to accomodate the society, but if he isn't doing anything against it, then he should have a chance to voice his thoughts. After all he is part of this society you are trying to accomodate.
If you decline his request (which you have full authority to do), this might raise a question of who's standards this planet lives by. But it's called qwaider planet so i guess it's kind obvious :-p...

In the end, it is your planet, and you get to select it's denizens. Just do what you believe in most.

PS: I have to say that i'm against homosexuality, true that they are human beings themselves, but in my view they are attacking the very fabric of society, and thus shouldn't be allowed to "infect" other people!!

since you believe in diversity and freedom of speech, then u shouldnt think twice about it! :) what is the difference of adding him or adding any other blogger? :)
you definetly should add him, and let everyone express his feelings! :)
Qwaider, ofcourse you should ad it!

He isn't posting porn on his blog! He is blogging about his experience in life. Qwaider planet is a diverse place. People can read what they want to read.

We can't keep on outcasting people like Mohammad. Maybe he really has a message that he wants to share with others. Why not hear it and think about it?

Why do we have to cover our heads in the sand instead of facing what's really going on in our society?
One other question, if you have for instance a blog by someone who is struggling with alcoholism and is blogging about it, would you add it to Qwaider planet?

Wouldn't we want to read about that and know what's going on?

most of blogging is about life, personality and identity. i cannot understand what all this fuss is about. i mean most of bloggers have pages about or even devote their whole virtual diary to memories, facts, events which include lovers, fiances, spouses. if you are to turn down this one, you should do the same with the rest. and replace the pages with pdf files from holy books. i do not know. of course, i would not have the same point of view if it was about pornography and harrassing anyone.
My suggestion is "User-side filtering" NOT administrative filtering.

Every person would prefer not to read one blog or another. Thats more or less a fact. So its best if you provide a handy tool where users can choose to skip the content of certain blogs. Something like [ignore blog] button.

This way everyone is happy. You are being an admin that is pro-speech, without forcing people to read things they don't want to be exposed to.

You can have a control panel with options like:
    [X] Hide sexual content
    [X] Filter vulgar language
[X] Hide political blogs (I personally would pick this :P )
    [X] ... etc

This might be a lot of work, but its well worth it.

My automatic reaction would be to just say "add it"...But seeing as I grew up in a city whose gay village is about the same size as Abdoun,I should try to look at things from a different perpective...
How about adding it with a warning or within a seperate category of blogs that some may find too risqué... that way people who aren't interested in reading that sort of stuff, just don't have to click on it.
As for cases of children, who read blogs and may click on it, I say "Hey parents! Keep an eye on your kids!"

qwaider msh 7abeh ktir atfalsaf. bs y3ni you cant add anything or something, enta qwaider u dont beleive in it!! and u know thats its wrong!
hehe this is funny how much this has been discussed, out of curiosity i had to check it out.

end result is, am never going there again. in my humble opinion its bland an uninteresting.

getting to discuss moral issues is too much of an overkill, not everytime the word "gay" is thrown you have to open that can of worms.

simply quality wise its as generic as it gets, if it was my planet i would refuse it for that not for being gay or whatever else that person might be.
Tough decision indeed. I came across this blog few days ago before observer posted out it,halla2 I couldn't put mysylf in other's shoes even I disagree with the writer but frankly I read all his posts and I added him to my favourites!! no not because I like this but out of the fact it is the first time I have the chance to know closely how such people feel or think coz never I heard in Jordan media mean talks a bout them, whther they are ill or god created them like this by nature (I have no idea, confusing matter) they are exist. Then people can follow up his link and get into his blog as I did (he left comment on my sister's blog) so people easily can find him even he is in agregator or not. Anyway it's up to you to add him or not yalla it's the toughest test ever. (50% I agree and 50 % I don't ).
In general, Blogsphere reflects exactly the image of the society..it includes all.. Muslim liberal, conservative, christian, sarcassian ..etc even homosexuals..If it just presents the good part or the positive side it will be lacking credibility and not objective..all people are nice like that?Where is the other part? it is like tv ..If you liked watch (read)if not change the chanel (don't read this blog)simply.
I am talking objectively what my simple mind says stressig that I am not standing with him nor sympathising even, 2enta fi mawkef la tu7sad 3aleh..I suggest to make voting system and readers can decide.
Or you can make such blogs just for registed in the planet (as u have in your blog)registed can check unpublish posts. This is in case there are children might read this, but it will be gray decision add it or not once you said gray also is not too bad ,it is close to white or black!

it's utterly revolting when Westerners lecture us on diversity, tolerance, and sexual freedoms when they can't tolerate a Muslim women wearing a piece of cloth on her head or face and minding her own business. They want us to be tolerant of homosexuality, gay marriages and gay adoptions and marital infidelity, but a guy who is married to two consenting women is considered retarded and illegal. KEEP YOUR VALUES AND YOUR LECTURES TO YOURSELVES.

I think it's about time goat lovers have a voice so I thought of starting a blog and I heard all this good atuff about freedom of expression and speech and tolerance. I was rejected on most mainstream US blogospheres but I hope you will find it in your heart to be understanding and open. Goat lovers are God's children and there is scientific proof we were born this way. And thank you Devil's Mind, and Observer, and all of your open minded people. BTW, my x-boy friend (I am a guy) is not in love with a corps. Both are consenting adults. Should I also suggest they talk to you about a setting up a blog?

#'s 46 and 47...r they for real....??? or they want to make a point...come over dear and make a point here...!!! i guess noone of u guys would dare to say a word here in the land of freedom...or would u??? just wondering...
since u guys were rejected by most US blogospheres...why do u think arabs should make an exception for u...!!! if the culture created u has rejected u...why ask for others to accept u...doesnot make anysense..
yeah arabs mentality will change by time for teh best, hopefully...but as for an open minded arab, i dont see accepting homosexuality (or any abnormal thing by our society)is something to do with being liberal...
cannot deny that there r old ACCEPTED things need to be changed in society, but as for those rights u ask for...i donot think anyone will stand with u to fight and change it... and with all respect for ppl saying that gays do exist in jordan, yes they do and i have seen some of them years ago, one of the gays is downtown selling lottery tickets and most ppl know he is "one of those ppl"..and u can tell if a guy is a guy or  not...by cetain things...we, ppl know and "those ppl" donot need to promote and say "hey we do exist!!"...have ur own blog and promote for it...away from normal ppl...plzzzzz.....
sorry, samer if i sound so rude or tough, but i donot want them to use this excuse "freedom of speech" as a tool to find their way in ur planet...it is true it is urs and u can decide, at the end, but i hate to say it going there....trust me...some ppl will be turned off by seeing someone like some abnormal ppl around...
peace to all and respect to all ppl around here...

It's not up to me alone, this is a community and in a community we all need to think collectively

It's not the matter of up to me or not, there are certain things that are causing all sort of confusion to me in multitude in directions. This is not a "black and while" situation. Although I sincerely hoped it would be

    Verbal Alchemy
I'm more confused than convinced. And this is what's bothering me. On one side I have my tolerance and diversity. And on the other is my cultural and social sensitivity. It's really hard to decide

I'm not sure that's what he wants. He states clearly that it's not his intention. But if you read through you find it all over the place.
The thing that bothers me is that there is nothing wrong with a writer who "Happens to be" gay. But there is a huge difference between that and someone having a blog with it's title "Gay in Jordan"

    Al Faisal El Dajani
It's not mine alone. I am trying to be a good citizen in this community, it's not Qwaider planet meaning my own dictated wishes on top of everyone.
Freedom of speech with limits of course. Where it doesn't contradict with the wishes of the masses. It is not that easy.

I think the social views are a little bit skewed on this matter, and I totally see that people are more open to talk about Atheism than homosexuality. And this by it's nature puts the Taboo triangle back online. Religion, Politics and Sex
I don't see anyone bothered with the former two so I'm not sure why Sex and ONLY in the homogeneous way is the remaining Taboo

    Weded
Now what's that supposed to mean!? :(

Thanks for your short straight answer. I'm taking it under advisement and seriously thinking about it. Yet, the decision is still too difficult to make. I am more inclined towards agreeing with you on this

    Thanks buddy, I'm considering it

    TheObserver#2
These are not the same. Alcoholism, substance abuse is totally different matter than homosexuality and we really shouldn't equate the two.

    Vas
Thanks, I'm considering it ... and will see what will come out of it

    Devil's mind
I was waiting to hear from you on this. Unfortunately, user-side filtering is really not an option because it will mean that everyone needs to register to get access. Not an easy task
The language on the blog is not worse than the language that you would read on Moey's blog for example or Rebellious Arab girl. Moderate profanity but of homosexual nature (especially when it comes to comments), which I don't aggregate

It's hard to have an Ignore blog button, sometimes I wonder if there could be such a thing for human beings ... But there isn't

It might be worth it ... I don't know .... I'm still considering the alternatives

    Beti
That's the problem everyone is facing. We are looking from our cultural, religious and parental eyes and not through the broad view of everyone in the world. The fact is, homosexuality exists. We try to look the other way but it will not go away.
I totally agree with you on Parental guidance in these cases and I prefer to see blogs with better ratings. Things that will keep younger audience away from harm's way. A blog needs to be clear on the fact that it's G, PG or R and X rated for older audiences

    Wedad#2
I don't believe in many things, but I still find room to allow others to have it. I don't eat pork but this doesn't mean that I don't want anyone else in the world not to eat it!

    Bambam
Yeah, that's right. I often use the word "interesting" when I have mixed emotions and I'm not sure I want to praise or curse the issue

    RedRose
Yes my friend, it's very tough. I think Qwaider planet is an attempt to contain as much of these different views as possible. But there are apparently some social Taboos that no one is willing to accept. Many criticized my move to keep Arab Lady in Qwaider planet. But I disagree and think it's her right to express her feelings. So why not him!? very hard question to answer!

    Sameer, Mustafa, Marwan ...
I got the idea, and I agree with you that the west is committing discriminatory actions against our culture. But the solution is not by reverse-discrimination against universal values. Its really tough

By the way, I love goats they have such good meat... :)
    Afaf
Take it easy my dear. I totally understand where you're coming from. But I think those two comments are there to make a point. And I get it.
I do see homosexuals as normal people who have their own existence and issues to discuss and I'm not opposing that if the blog was about that. It's in fact, NOT about that but rather about other details that I wouldn't normally accept from a straight guy or a girl. And this is the true measure at the end.
So we're back to the evil triangle again, Religion, Politics and Sex

    Caller
See what I said to Afaf, I think someone was just trying to make a point. And they exaggerated it a little bit

    [Whisperer #1]
I totally know that "Hadith" and believe in it. And I think I will eventually end up offending some people. I'm just trying to keep that to a minimum.

    [Whisperer #2]
I understand, you feel upset if you see this stuff from anywhere and won't go back. I know this is a HUGE can of worms and that Roba and "Shillet el Ons"  will come and parade through it. (and I happen to respect her views by the way), But I totally believe that there is nothing wrong with seeking advice and "testing the waters" to see what could work. Don't you think?

And I'm glad you like the new enhancements :) I made them just for you

wallah, ya samer i am taking it easy and like everybody else...ijust hate when ppl use the "freedom of speech" to find their way out nomatter what their way is...i am not against any abnormalities in ppl, cuz this is what allah made us like...i am not a judge to rule agianst ppl...but if his blog was normal i would go ahead and vote to add it, but it is all about him being gay which wont add much to most of ppl around here...i remember one day my husband had a faculty meeting adn one of the professors came out and said "i am gay"...donot know why and what point he was making...or asking for an excuse...anyway, everybody from faculty including the provost, looked at him and one of them said "that is ur own business and we r not having a meeting to discuss ur sexuality" and the meeting went on...as simple as that...so they donot care there in the west..so why should we now lable ppl or excuse them just cuz they have a certain preference...this is ur own business u deal with it away from everybody else...!!
wallahi if i am queen drama and came up with a blog all about tragedies and depression all day long just projecting depressing feelings...do u want me to come over and ask to add a link for my blog...i guess u would say "heya na2sakeee??"....so it is the same here...
i never considered the evil traingle to be evil...my standard was always not to discuss religion nor politics, cuz it is neither win nor loose situation...i believe in what i believe in..and noone can change that...as for sexuality...i am normal person, have limits to discuss it publicly...
sorry for my lengthy comment...u know i should start my own blog!!!
again samer, sorry if i sounded rude or harsh here...
peace and respect to all of u ppl here...

You don't believe in that now do you. if you do, there is a Zionist, KKK, Skinhead, pedophile, necrophiliac out there who will demand you respect his point of view. Universal values exist in text books and wen we want to impress our audeince. in the real world, there is Iraq, palestine, lebanon, Kosovo, Rawanda, Vietnam, WW I, WW II, Hiroshima, Nagazaki, Comfort Girls, Cultural Revolutions, etc.

STOP THIS MADNESS PLEASE. A GAY PERSON WHO WANTS TO SHARE HIS GAYNESS IS HIS BUSINESS AND HE CAN DO IT ON HIS BLOG AND NO ONE CAN STOP HIM AND THAT'S THE EXTENT OF HIS FREE SPEECH PROTECTION. ANYTHING ELSE IS YOUR BUSINESS, NOT HIS. THIS APPLIES TO ANYBODY WITH ANY CAUSE. DO YOU THINK THIS GAY MAN CAN WALTZ INTO THE NEW YORK TIMES HQ AND DEMAND TO BE PUBLISHED AND THEY WILL PUBLISH FOR HIM JUST BECAUSE HE IS GAY AND HAS SOMETHING TO SAY? SO LONG AS YOU ARE NOT STOPPING HIM FROM BLOGGING, YOU ARE NOT STANDING IN THE WAY OF HIS FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION. SO PLEASE LET US NOT DIGNIFY THIS SILLINESS ANYMORE. THIS APPLIES TO ANYONE ANYTIME WITH CHAMPIONING ANY CAUSE.
It's obvious that this thing will never be resolved with consensus!

Qwaider, of course this issue will end. It will end when you decide what you want to do. Contrary to some of the absurd posts, this is not a free speech issue since you are not stopping anyone from expressing their views. if we fail to understand the meaning of free speech, this issue will have no end. Soon someone will demand to have a bookmark on your browser for his website or you will be accused of being closed-minded about this or that issue. This issue is a question of what style or taste you wish to impart on Qwaider Planet. For me, a blog focused on sexual preference is utterly tasteless. And no, i could care less how people which to screw or be screwed, so long as the involved parties are consenting, mentally fit adults. But I do not consider anything other than hetro relations to be normal, no offense to necros, pedophiles, homos, and pet lovers.
Kayyali, Kid, Hani, whatever your name is... there is a huge difference between necrophiliacs, pedophiles and homosexuals and that is the latter violate other's while homosexuals do not. Its again like equating Polygamy with sodomy. They're not the same thing

I'll decide soon ... and please ... stop playing with your name and settle on something so people can get your point!

just because you don't "violate others" it does not make it normal. an orgy between consenting adults does not violate anyone, but is it "decent" "normal" behavior ? cocaine use does not violate others (same illness risk as homosexual conduct), but does society tolerate it? walking nude in downtown Washington DC does not violate anyone's rights (unless person too out of shape), but is it legal and normal? consent and "no-harm" does not transform any act into a normal, decent act. normalcy is sometimes decided by the majority, as is the case in democratic countries. in France, a girl's harmless hair cover is abnormal and is not tolerated at the official level. Same disdain for the veil is being witnessed in more and more "tolerant" countries even though the veil harms no one. incestuous relationships, even if between consenting related adults, and even if they don't produce children, are still a mortal sin in all cultures. So we have to chose a cultural frame of reference and stick with it. are we French (beware vailed girls), are we Americans (screw you terrorist backward arabs), or are we Indian, or Chinese, or ARAB. If you live in the US do as the USians do. It's that simple. But with the web, it gets tricky, as you can see. the point is, in Jordan, homosexuality is not normal and is not decent, even though the law and most people close an eye and seem to accept a live and let live so long as it's not in your face.
Sorry people, but I think some gets it all wrong. If you think that being open-minded is just "imitating" the west, then u'r so missing the point. Open-mindedness and tolerance needs to be a standard that we all seek regardless of where we live. Whether we were in the most technologically advanced countries, or just Arabians with sand in our feet, both need to seek tolerance and understanding.

So if we can fix the mistakes of the west, why do we need to hesitate?!
We really need to stop bundling everything we dislike in one bucket. Regardless of our feelings towards something or another. Anything that two people agree about might be more acceptable even if it was euthanasia not just sex!
We might not like something but this doesn't categorize it as Taboo immediately.

THAT'S why it's so hard to take a decision

How suitably picked this title "Memories documented" is!... I am sure you are pleased to have so many diverse opinions and theories built on threads, vague assumptions, generalizations written down. I am just surprised to see that plenty of people seem to discover the moon for the first time. There are many nouns for that: naivety, ignorance, self-induced blindness, hypocricy.
Vas I'm not sure how to take your comment. But thank you anyway
hehehehe, Mustafa the Zionist and Marwan Mawwwww!! loooool

That was funny guys. Infact, I wish you were real because I would find it interesting to read about both of your views.

The problem with us is that we want to close our minds. We don't want to think. We think that thinking would harm us. Knowledge would kill us! It is sad.

Qwaider, I think that you are in a position to really make a difference in our Jordanian society. You can be the first one to really give us freedom to express whatever we feel like to say, or you can be like many others who suppressed us over the years.

Be a leader and do the right choice for the sake of humanity.
Qwaider please answer this question, Is being gay something that you would encourage? It's as simple as that!?

Don't evade the question with any talk... just be honest with us and with yourself...  Cause promoting it is encouraging it...

another brutally dull cliche. you seem to watch too much Matrix, not to mention you are being totally absurd, not open-minded, to suggest that those who don't tolerate colonialism and fascism are closed minded. there is a point after which your show of "tolerance" goes even beyond the theoretical and into the twilight zone of intellectual masturbation. and it's right at this point when i respectfully bow out of this discussion since there is little value in it.

you guys are what they call neo-liberals? i do not recall any of you fighting for democracy or equality, but so many of you are now fighting, with all of this intensity for a gay man to have a blog everywhere he demands. if this is the sort of liberalism you want to bring to the arab world, count me out. but this is the sort of liberalism the arab regimes seem to tolerate, and the self-interested seems to champion. cheap, hollow liberalism. freedom to screw, to get drunk, to smoke a joint. and where were you guys when the debates were raging on some of the other blogs about freedom for people under apartheid? freedom to choose your leader? equality between the various ethnic and political groups in the arab world? i don't recall seeing most of your names in those blgos. I must agree with another cliche, we Arabs don't even know how to embrace modernity, just hedonism camouflaged as freedoms, hence the defense of sexual liberties and the outrage over honor killing, which is a credible cause but some of those who champion it will never tell you the Americans and the Zionists kill 1000 times more Arab women than honor killing, yet, the same arab neo-liberals will stay silent on violence against arab women by amercians and jews. what a despicable form of modernity some of you guys want to bring to the arab world.

Some of the bloggers think this is personal and he can do whatever he wants and express his feeling in the way he wants…and it is up to the other bloggers to read his blog or not..

I have to say this people…this is not a personal thing…in Islam what is he doing is forbidden (haram)...it is written so clearly in Quran…
So NO it is not up to him…he is frankly saying that he is making haram things…we can't encourage him to do so…

I Believe these guys know what they are facing…for now they are not looking for acceptance…just discussing this in public is more than enough for them..

    Read what that guy wrote:
    " dear jasmine

I will not call u narrow minded or HOMOPHOBIC
just talking about gays issues is a gr8 step in acceptance of homo's in the community
    & u did this step

Life didn't stop at Palestine. Life didn't stop at Iraq, And life is sure not going to stop because some silly kids with blogs are putting what they think of on paper

Qwider, EVERY ARAB RESOURCE SHOULD BE CHANNELED TO WIN THE WAR OF LIBERATION. here we are with Iraq, Syria, and Palestine under colonial invasion and other Arabs pretend this is not their problem. This is like a New Yorker saying Perl Harbor is Hawaii's problem not New York's. Only a neo-liberal Arab would distance himself from what's happening in other parts of the Arab world. thats' why most arab regimes love this form of hollow liberalism because it's a zero-risk liberalism. screw democracy, screw liberation, screw equality, long live gay rights and Johny Walker.
Seriously ... I couldn't have picked a better thing to call you other than ... Rooh ya!
Before you come here and shout your junk, tell me what YOU have done to the Arab world and nations? I don't see you standing in the front line fighting. Go ahead ... be my guest!
We on the other hands try to present our issues to the world. Don't look at it in the context of THIS specific post. This is post number 678 out 681 posts. You can't judge a book by a single phrase in page 500!
We try, and we are gaining grounds and the world is starting to listen to what we have to say! We are making a difference and we're changing the world.
Qwaider,  I respect that you don't want to impose personal beliefs on people but I think you're not looking at it from all angles... You are not imposing anything you're just not promoting this blog...  When it goes on Qwaider Planet it gets more readership and more publicity that's all...

You are projecting beliefs either way (personal or not)...  Unless you think that the material we read doesn't affect our thoughts in any way...

I don't know what else to say...  simply put, you drive traffic to his blog (we all know the content its not appropriate in your eyes as much as in mine)... and if giving him more exposure does not support him I don't what does!!
    Rooh ya...
What has this to do with us not being in one tone with other Arab countries...

The reason why this has more comments than anyplace else is that in this "Planet" we can actually have a saying or some sort of control "if I'm not mistaken"...  Yes its about a gay man in Jordan which is nothing compared to the atrocities in the world... but here we have control over this seemingly tiny issue...

I'm sure that if one of the decision makers ever asks bloggers to have a saying (voting) as to should we march on to Iraq or Palastine... you will find millions of votes and actions from the same people who are commenting here....

Your last line said it all... so go to your gay rights and Johny Walker... fight there cause you're doing a great job, I'm sure Palestine and Iraq are appreciate your stand on these issues!!!!!!
    do appreciate...
Everyone, Please go ahead and cast your votes in the sidebar
Let me know if you support the decision or not!

    Thanks
    dear MR. Samer

thank u for starting this wonderful modern discussion about my blog
2 be honest with u I'm surprised about this explosion!!

it's obvious that the majority here don't like the blog & they don't want it 2 be added 2 QWAIDER PLANET

but let me tell u something
    الإنسان عدو ما يجهل
ppl r afraid from what they don't know
I'm Jordanian & I know how most of ppl in Jordan think about lesbians & gays
but I will not give up from trying 2 make ppl in my lovely country 2 understand homosexuals in a better way

It is sadly 4 me 2 c someone mixing between homosexuality & pedophilia or Femininity!!
it seems there is a long way for homosexuals 2 pass before they become understood in Jordan

I can't understand why some think the blog is porno?
if u think poetry of Nezar Qabani or songs of Kazem ALsaher is porno so u can think my blog is porno!!
    (sorry 4 saying this)
but plz I'm a person with good manners & from a good family I will never ever write a bad language in my blog

It is a matter of expression of my internal feeling which I can't say it in front of my friends or others because they will disrespect me!!

I will be very happy if u add me 2 QWAIDER PLANET because I want 2 enter Jordanian bloggers community
now it is a wish 4 me 2 be accepted from u and from ur planet readers & friends

plz think about me as a human who is normal the only deferent between me & heterosexuals is in sexual orientation, I have emotions like others & I have the right 2 express them, I'm not asking anyone 2 read my blog if he/she feels disgusting from it (simply u can ignore the blog!!)

be sure I'm not looking 4 famous or something silly like this; it is the opposite way!! it is dangers 4 my life 2 post in the blog because I'm writing about my daily activities and someone may recognize me & tell the others!!
    We live in small country!!

sorry 4 being late 2 comment here; I discovered the discussion today!!

In the end it is ur decision 2 add my blog or not
plz think twice before u decide & plz be biased 2 the side of speech freedom

and QWAIDER PLANET readers & friends plz be biased 2 the side of human respect & equality this is all what I need from u

    dear Sid W #6
there is no comment from u arrived 2 my blog
I will publish any comment comes 2 my blog whether I agree with it or not !!
In my opinion freedom of expression is holy

by the way could plz give me a technical support?
    I'm new in blogging!!
Do u know how 2 make comments published without a permission from the blog owner??

    dear Mohanned #15
I'm not editing comments and delete what I don't like!!
It is a new blog not a lot of ppl have heard about it so most of the comments r still supporting 2 me!!

gay Jordanian, i bet if you had a blog with no sexual mission, and you discussed diverse issues, this debate would not have taken place. as a matter of fact, i know a couple of active Jordanian bloggers who are gay (you know who you are and I know people who know you are) and guess what WE DON'T CARE. But you are on a sexual crusade. you want to flaunt your sexuality. that's your business. i don't think anyone will stop you. but respect that there are people who don't care for your sexual crusade. whether you are gay, lesbo, or hetro, a blog with sexual mission is not mainstream, not in Jordan.  my suggestions is for you to take the initiative, like Qwaider and JordanBlogs, and start your own blog directory where other Jordanians who are gay, lesbian, hetro, incestuous, and necros, or whatever turns them on, can tell their stories. You will be surprised how many hits you will get.
    dear Mush Gader

my blog is not a sexual mission!!
    it is a freedom mission
I respect that there r ppl don't care about the blog or it's content
    It's ok 4 me
there is no sexual crusade, It is only a mater of feeling expression

dear u suggest 2 make a gay directory, there r already gay directories I did not participate in them because I don't like 2 be categorized according 2 my sexual orientation
I'm a normal person I wish if I can tell u who I am in reality ( I mean my real full name, what I'm studying....etc.) because I'm next door man!!
I came late to the discussion but this is what I think:

Have you ever excluded other blogs? Based on what? Content? Riske martial? Just treat it the same way.

I personally think you should add it, as Mohammed said, he does not have any bad language or sexually explicit martial (his blog is not interesting by the way, badly written)

I don't like maybe 80% of the blogs on ANY planet and I don't click on them, it does not mean you should exclude them.

I don't like to preach or lecture but here's a previous comment I left on The observers post (it was edited a bit to fit this discussion):

You fail to see why we should try and "protect his rights" or “respect them” because the same Arab rules that do not let him do what he wants to do without being harassed or called names does not allow an Arab Jordanian woman to give her child the Jordanian citizenship or a Saudi woman from driving.

    It’s all connected you see.

We have to look beyond being Arab or Muslim here

It means a lot from a humans rights perspective to look beyond religion or culture and let them be. He is human and he deserves to be respected regardless of his sexual orientation (unless he is a bad person of course). Depriving him of his rights means depriving other people that are different from their rights too and using culture and religion as an excuse.

Let me give you an example, there was a bill here in Canada to allow gay marriage, this bill was passed in Parliament. Then comes another new government that wanted to disallow it again on the basis of religion that a marriage has to be between a man and a woman, the bill passed again to allow gay marriage.
I was for it 100% because if we allow the government to disallow this it means that some day they might disallow other things that mean a lot to me, like for example they might decide to disallow people from taking religious time off or they might disallow women from breast feeding in public, you know what I mean? (I just threw these out as examples).

At the end of the day, Nas had the best advise to offer.

dear gay jordanian, cut the crap please and do not insult my intelligence. I am old enough to tell the difference and you ARE on a sexual crusade. that's your business but keep me and others out of it.

"I don't like 2 be categorized according 2 my sexual orientation"

PLEEEEZZZ! now you are being absurd. You are not a mainstream blogger just because you say you are.  it seems the majority of jordanisn bloggers who are part of  this discussion think your blog is a sexual crusade. we all think you have the right to say what you want, and we have the right to read what we want. When you create a blog not focused on your sexuality, i am sure no one would care about what you do in your private life. else, just join a blog directory that focuses on sexuality. that simple.

7aki Fadi, Qwaider planet is not a safe heaven for sexual crusades. the gay Jordanians human rights are not violated. he can create 1000 blogs and create his own planet and do whatever he pleases.

We could care less what Canadians think of gay marriages. if they consider it moral and legal for gays to marry and adopt and OK to have extramarital relationships but they consider it retarded and criminal to marry two women, then we have a case of hypocrisy at a minimum or outright racism. I am not an advocate of polygamy or homosexuality but there is either consistency or there is not. When there is not, there is no credibility. and at the end of the day, each culture makes its own rules, consistent or not.

    Dear friends ...

The internet is an open speace .. or at least that what we think of it ... the freedom we all asking for could be tow ways highway ... so as i want to express my thoughts/feelings via the internet i expect other ppl to agree or disagree with me .. but no matter what other ppl thing .. the respect is all what it's about ... so even if i don't agree with u i'll respect u .. and i expect the same from yr side ... that's what we all seeking for ...

and about this topic .. my opinion is ... u MUST respect all others opinions no matter if it's fitting u or not .. u can't take freedom just when it's fitting u ... and leave it when it's not ...

another point .. why u ppl defind any homosexual script as a pornography but when it's about hetrosexual scripts it's just expressions ! ... let's be fair with others and let's act the way we expect others to act with us ...

that's it :) ... and thx for reading

RAM, YOUR CLICHES ARE KILLING ME. So you will respect a Nazi or a Zionist if he expresses his racial supremacist views? What about a pedophile expressing his love for child sex. would you respect that? PLEEEEEEZZZ PEOPLE, SOME ORIGINAL THOUGHT WOULD NOT HURT.

Ram, your question has been answered dozens of time in earlier posts, but as a show of my tolerance, I will say that I respect your right to ignore all the opinions in the hope of finding one that agrees with you 100%. nothing new here. as for your respect for nazis and zionists, i think that shows that we are tooooooo far apart on key issues.
qwaider, i know what i wud do in ur shoes, i just think of it as my house, wud i allow someone at a party held at my place where noone else invited wud appreciate his/hers presence? and i think its clear what the majority thinks. and wow all these replies! i ACTUALLY went thru each one lol dint think i had that much patience in me :D
Comment #100!! WOW!!! (counting the whispers)
Thanks Verbal Alchemy. If I was to invite such a person to my party at home. I would fear for their life!

"I would fear for [the gay gues] life"

Qwaider,  that's a colossal cheap shot. you are hiding behind your commentators to cover your disdain for gays.  it's not a nice thing to do. no one, in all the comments I read, suggested anything other than live and let live approach to differences. this is very neo-liberal of you, to claim openness but blame your hard-line decisions on others and society.  Sounds like so Arab leaders we know.

Qwaider you know you can add a gay website and no one can or would stop you or even would care to stop you and there would be no repercussions.  But Qwaider you want to have your cake and eat it too. You want to ban a gay website, position yourself as a tolerant guy who is a victim of his community of bloggers.

This is the last time I participate in your blog or consider adding my blog to your directory.
    What are you talking about!!?
I said that out of genuine concern for the person's life.
But regarding the matter, See that Poll up there on the right? Cast your vote. And I promise I will follow what ever it says.

I don't need to prove that I am tolerant to every person who challenges that! It's enough that there are people who I have a lot of conflict with on the planet. Believe it or not. I don't agree with everything written there and believe it or not, I do nothing about it! Because I respect other's right to express themselves

This is the extent of my tolerance, and if you know how to do this in any better way teach me how and light a candle .. instead of cursing the dark

Q, why hide behind cyber polls when you know anyone can stuff it with multiple votes. why not ask your bloggers' community to vote via email  and then decide. i tend to agree with Muna's point of view, you are hiding behind your community of bloggers. this is not fair to them.
    Muna/Jarboo3/Calling all hypocrites/KID/Hani
This poll has two factors to check so, unless someone has unlimited number of IP Addresses, they will not be able to do anything

Second, I said (100 comments back) that I could just hide behind it and no one would be able to blame me, so what you're saying is not new

Third, are you enjoying all the drama here?? I'm glad you are
    Apparently, someone is schizophrenic here

I suggest that you don't "test" the limits of my tolerance here.

    Qwaider,

fact: anyone logging in via an ISP will have multiple IP address every time he disconnects and reconnects. so one person could vote 100 times  if not more and skew the results of the poll.
Fact, DHCP will prefer to give you your last known IP per your MAC Address. MR MC2.

I fail to see what you're going to accomplish with this! But I'm just going to entertain the idea

fact: DHCP will not hold an IP address for a MAC after you disconnet  and someone requests an available IP address.

you can test this theory by disconnecting for some while (varies from ISP to ISP) then logging in and visit a website  such as http://www.showip.com to see your IP number.

All online polls are flawed and results can be forged.

Please don't argue with an MCSE unless you are one.
Actually, DHCP WILL hold the IP until your lease expires OR the server runs out of IP's and it starts recycling the IP Addresses to reuse them.
Anyway, go ahead, influence the decision for the poll, this is not like we're electing the president or anything ...
You made me laugh when I read "don't argue with MCSE unless you're one"
LOL!! This will provide the people who know me with a really good laugh ...

Resorting to the majority's opinion could never be the right tool to make a social change. If they have resorted to the majority, racial discrimination would not have been criminalized, women would not have been empowered, hijab would have been banned in football matches (and that what happened). Changes need a brave person who belives in what he does.
You think of all we've done and you don't see any change!?!

Little steps ... maybe one day people will see past the texts and their own phobia... but I don't think we're ready yet!
    Nas's comment is amazingly written,

add for the quality of posts and blog.
if you find it capable of making your criteria regardless to the author's personal sexual favourites, religion, race or whatever
    just add it.

It's risky as hell though, I can't deny.
Although I agree with some of what's in that specific comment, I do disagree with some of it's content as in "can either stand for something or stand for nothing"
I would say that as "one thing or another"
But I view that in it's specifics as in, I might stand for freedom of speech when it comes to women's rights but when it comes to gays not be as tolerant! I'm after all human and since I found that this is clouding my judgement. I appealed to you; the community's help
    I understand,

I guess you have to make a little poll and see the results!
    sorry for being blind, lol

    i read what u write
and i think he doesnt deserve that ... he is free to put anything in his blog ... and that dont give u the right to delete it
    regards
yes why not this a real think i am with hem if u check from inside u well find more than 15%off the pepole in jordan gays
Actually, the percentage in Jordan is less than 1%. Even in the western world the percentage is still less than 5% and for women less than 2%. So having it at 15% in Jordan alone is quite a massive exaggeration
The most optimistic of ALL (and quite disputed statistic) said the number is still less than 10%. I explained earlier why 10% is a magical number
