Al Zarqawi as everyone knows have been assassinated In Iraq. In a US strike usingtwo 500Lb bombs with apparently some assistance from Jordanian intelligence and Iraqi security forces. And the lax securityof of one of his close aids

Now, I don't want to call this a miracle, we all know how deeply infiltrated all these so called militant organizations are. Therefore, A question keeps floating to my mind. Why now?

If we take an inquisitive look at the situation in the US and the world these days we find certain issues where the US government is not doing that great, to name a few:

    • Gas prices continue to rise despite assurances that they will go down. Meanwhile countries like Saudi are celebrating 30% reduction in gas prices (and I can't help but envy them)
    • The president's approval rates are at an All time low, not only for him, but for any president of the united states. More and more people are resentful of the current situations and more and more are becoming anti-war
    • On the issue of the Post-War-Iraq, the administration has failed miserably to provide any viable options to the anarchy swooping Iraq these days. Militant roaming the streets terrorizing civilians, killing national security forces, foreign troops and innocent civilians alike. The situation has never been so volatile on the Iraqi landscape as it is right now.
    • Jordan as a kingdom was galvanized entirely against terrorism that is being re-exported back from Iraq by Zarqawi after the bombings in Amman. The image of the government and security agencies there are at stake unless results are achieved.
    • The whole Arabic region is at the brink of major ideology shift that is about to create a rapture between extremists and Liberals, With each side gaining more and more followers each day from the pool of undecided majority. We see women getting veiled in skyrocketing numbers but at the same time we see the values system being shattered to smithereens on the other end the spectrum with more and more people abandoning their strict backgrounds and turning to the absolute opposite, all of a sudden and in little time
    • The way the American administration is handling the Iranian nuclear profile is alarming to the point that some analyst have described it as childish and irresponsible, let alone extremely unbalanced. Specifically with the Iranian administration attempting diplomacy with the administration something quite interesting since it's usually the other way around
    • The continued support of the American administration to their biggest ally in the middle east (Israel) in defiance with every Arab, Muslim, European, Chinese and even south American objection. Causing some eye brows to go high
    • The matter of Immigrants that is becoming a abuzz word in all international media these days and the proposed solutions that don't even address the problem
    • The sky climbing US deficit in time where the administration is still issuing more and more tax-cuts that favours the more fortunate elite, while people with 60k or less income will receive something in the order of $3 each.
    • The explosive situation in Afghanistan, who's back on the map apparently with increased insurgency attacks on the government there and the US troops stationed there.
    • The negative image the CIA is receiving day after day for matters like, failing to predict or prevent 9/11, providing false information about the Iraqi weapons of mass destruction weapons, the web secret prisons around the world. The exposure of active agents in the field and many others
    • [Added] The track record for the American armed forces that suggest many voilations to human rights such as in Abu Ghraib and Haditha incidents

All of these and more lead one to believe that the timing of such an operation may have been premeditated. And although many hail it as being a fantastic victory, some would be a little bit suspicious of the effect it has to distract the general public from things that affect their daily lives

It should have been made clear that the last thing the government needs is to make a martyr out of someone like Zarqawi, If he was confirmed to be in that house. Special-Ops troops should have stormed the place and captured him Alive. Leading a larger victory. Not only would he be exposed, but he would be tried and convicted as a war criminal

Could it be possible that had Zarqawi been captured he would deny the charges against him and this could pause a credibility crises for governments and the media? Or the unending trials of Saddam taught everyone a lesson not to go down that route. Ironically it wasn't enough that Saddam lived years torturing his people and killing them in his prisons, but till this day he's torturing millions of people watching that dreadful trial and killing them of boredom.

On the other hand, the Jordanian people have been United against these terrorists activities only for us to hear disturbing news that Hamas is actually morning the death of Zarqawi which will cause a severe allergic reaction that if left unchecked might split the fabric of the Jordanian society in multiple directions. You have the Palestinian Jordanians on one side, and possibly the Jordanian Islamic side. And on the other side you have the Pro-national Jordanians and the more liberal side. They might not be as clean cut as one might seem. The same home might be split a-la Lebanon-civil-war style. And might be a point that may lead the fragile Jordanian economy south or even worse increase the polarization of the society in either directions leading to possible civil war. All of these remain to be seen as the story unfolds

The figure has been assassinated, paving the way for the legend and I would consider this the worst nightmare situation. He has made his mark and will continue to exist in infamy for many, and as an icon for others. What Zarqawi proved was that, human cruelty knows no limits

Next would be another tape from Zawahiri or Bin Laden, praising Zarqawi and wishing him a good time with his 70 virgins in his promised beach front property in heaven, with which they would try to convert the blow to a tourist brochure to attract more extremists to their cause.

On the military side, expect to see a raise in incidents for three reasons. Retaliatory and proving existence, and proving the non-affiliation of the home grown insurgency with Zarqawi. As the turmoil continue so will the unrest and Iraq continues to be at the verge of all out civil war. With US taking casualties from all sides.
