This is one of the most quotes from "Gone with the Wind" by Rhett Butler(Clark Gable) who has given up on Scarlet O'Hara (Vivian Leigh) selfish demands.

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn

What interests me in the 1939 epic-block-buster movie of all times, isn't just the amazing story, or color (which was unusual at the time) or the use of a swear word in that sentence (also arguably a first in those times). But the amazing quality of the way this story is woven into intricate details. To produce the best movie ever made in history.

Sure, my top two movies of all times are undeniably Star Wars (both trilogies) and The Matrix (along with it's side quests in the Animatrix). Both have sprung a religious like class of fans. Alas, not that much in Jordan. Where Action movies, Romance and Bollywood movies take the center stage, pushing to the side Sci-Fi and Fantasia movies which are often called "unbelievable". (however a movie where a woman is trying to lose a guy in 10 days and fails because he made a counter bet then they both miraculously fall in love. Or a streetwalker marrying a rich elegant billionaire are believable)

Anyway, The interesting thing about the title of this article is that it gets one to think, and examine the world we live in. We are often times faced with very hard decisions. Sometimes we're compelled to take stands and do everything we can to achieve the results we seek. While other times we just stand still, roll our eyes and say "I don't give a damn".

It's a wonderful thing when people run to someone seeking advice, protection and help. That's one thing, but we might not always have the answers they seek. We might also come to realizations that we really can't fight someone else's war. It's their war, it's their life and they really need to stand up to the challenge and prove they're not wussy-cry-babies

This sort of social codependency is really addictive. People get sucked in time after time and before they know it, they really lose their independence and the force that drives their individuality. On the flip side, they might turn out to become the tyrants and decision makers not only for themselves but for people around them

There comes a time in everyone's life when they need to make a decision. There are occasions where friends and loved ones might help protect one from their decisions or assist them. But there are those times where people need to walk the path alone, tall and confident and just decide that it's their right to design how the future is to unfold before them.

That was a good lesson for Scarlett in Gone with the wind, because at the end of the movie she said.... "After all, Tomorrow is another day". In a clear indication that she has come of age and understood the value of making her own decisions, because no matter how bad it gets ... tomorrow... is just another day

    Memories....

Somebody spent Saturday watching classic movies :)
You know… I’ve read Gone with the wind so many times before I’ve seen the movie, and when I got the chance to see it, I wasn’t disappointed at all, I loved it even more, the characters brought to live, and I saw a side of it I couldn’t see in the book.
Aaaaaaah, you took me back in time with this post ya Q…
And Tomorrow is just another day :) …

I love this quote, and usually change the d@mn into something more forceful...like "the F word".  And sometimes the dear is changed with "the B word".  I've really got to learn how to skip over those songs of my teen brother when copying songs on the ipod.  The lyrics are beginning to appear in my regular vocab.  Oh yeah, back to GWTW, I have never seen the movie...though I am not sure why.  My sister has seen it no less than 100 times and you'd think I would have sat with her one of those times.  Maybe when she's back for a visit I have her bring it with her.  But I am not sure I can sit through it for that long.  Is it really worth it?
I love the movie!! and yes, tomorrow is another day! a motto to go by in ones life.
    Thanks for sharing Samer!
