Ok, so I got it up and running .... and quite frankly, I'm not impressed!

My speed tests are averaging between 130kbps and tops at 290kbps on rare occasions!

At best, I'm getting less than %30 of my total bandwidth!

I don't know if this is what I should expect, because my upload seems to be around 200kbps which is 75% of the 256! That's more like it.

I'll ping TEData folks and see what's going on, if anyone has DSL in Amman, and has a minute, try to run Speakeasy speed test, here: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and see what kind of results you get and let me know how it goes

    These little things .....!

well, on the 512Kb connection I've got, - the highest recorded has been around 488Kb, - pretty happy with it. Though, as with all aDSL global, the speed is not a consistent. Check your DSL modem readings, - it could be JTC not able to attain the 1Mb connection....- I'm talking from experience, after 2months of chasing JTC, - have managed to pick up my 512Kb down and 128Kb up!!! Check JTC, then ping tedata...
I've got TE Data, I just tested at 286 download and 96 upload to Seattle.  (I'm paying for 512).  I've gone around in circles with Jordan telecom and TE Data, and no one will take responsibility for the problems I have with it... they all just blame each other.  At least lately it's been working most of the time.  Earlier this year, it would just cut out for hours at a time.

Nimer or Qwaider, can you explain how JTC was able to "attain the 1MB connection".  What did they have to change?

Qwaider, hope you had a good time at the meet-up.
I've got the following results with TeData 512Kbps connection
Download Speed: 411 kbps (51.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 100 kbps (12.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
note that the upload speed is restricted by JTC, 128Kbps for subscriptions 512Kbps and lower, and 256Kbps for the connections over 512Kbps.
Let me remind you.. that it is 512kbps (or 1024kbps) on ADSL, not cable.. What JTC usually do is connect 4 (or sometime 6) ADSL lines on the same output, sharing the same 512 bandwidth.. so, basically, there are 3 others who are paying for 512 connection, that are connected to the same 512 line you have.. At certain occations, you might get slower speed, that could be due to heavier download on the network and the station of JTC..

As well, ADSL, optimally, work for distances less than 5km.. so your house should be less than 5km from the nearest PBX of JTC to get the best possible speed.

ADSL as a technology isn't superior.. it is a "walkaround" not having a digital network or infrastructure, trying to get the best possible digital signal over conventional phone lines..
I think the problem is nothing but settings/configuration. All someone needs to do is double check that I'm on the right circuit, getting the right bandwidth
I just tried again this morning and peaked at 464kbps. Which is better, but still way less than 1024.
I'm sure there's protocol and encapsulation overhead involved, but, it shouldn't be greater than 20%
