Although I agree with what is written in the email, I believe we should look into incidents that we know it happend like the splitting of the moon. Any one denying that is denying Quran.Here is the link on that NASA picture.

In Islam lying is prohibited and considered a great sin. And the worst sin some one can commit is to make up stories as you metioned above, as this will discredit Muslim and Islam. At the same time one can not limit Quarn to a certain discovery or incident. Quran has so much miracles in its wording and the meanings behind it. One thing I have experienced my self in Quran its acuracy and precission. Wallahi each single word is in its place for a reason that we may find out and we may not and the way that expressed it does describe what ever meant by it so acurate and precise that makes you keep repeating Sub7an Allah. Having said that I will associate the pic with the story. And any one can go and investigate and authenticate it. But Still I would say I won't limit Quran to what Science has found   or theorizes. As for actual physical facts, that can not be denied. Theories are something we have to be carefull to use when it comes to "nas Qurani">here is teh story:
والقصة كما حدثت مع محمد عليه الصلاو السلام

إن كفار مكة قالوا للرسول صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم : إن كنت صادقا فشق لنا القمر فرقتين ، ووعدوه بالإيمان إن فعل ، وكانت ليلة بدر ، فسأل رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ربه أن يعطيه ما طلبوا ...فانشق القمر نصف على جبل الصفا ، ونصف على جبل قيقعان المقابل له ، حتى رأوا حراء بينهما ،فقالوا : سحرنا محمد ، ثم قالوا: إن كان سحرنا فإنه لا يستطيع أن يسحر الناس كلهم!!
فقال أبو جهل:اصبروا حتى تأتينا أهل البوادي فإن أخبروا بانشقاقه فهو صحيح ، وإلا فقد سحر محمد أعيننا ، فجاءوا فأخبروا بانشقاق القمر فقال أبو جهل والمشركون :هذا سحر مستمر أي دائمفأنزل الله : ( اقتربت الساعة وانشق القمر* وإن يروا آية يعرضوا ويقولوا سحر مستمر* وكذبوا واتبعوا أهواءهم وكل أمر مستقر* ولقد جاءهم من الأنباء مافيه مزدجر* حكمة بالغة فما تغني النذر* فتول عنهم..) "

انتهت القصه التي كانت في عهدالرسول صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم .

في أحد ندوات الدكتور زغلول النجار بإحدى جامعات بريطانيا قال أن معجزة انشقاق القمر على يد الرسول تم إثباتها حديثا ثم حكى قصة أثبتت ذلك ...

قال أحد الاخوة الإنجليز المهتمين بالإسلام اسمه داود موسى بيتكوك وهو الآن رئيس الحزب الإسلامي البريطاني وينوى أن يخوض الانتخابات القادمة باسم الإسلام الذي ينتشر في الغرب بمعدلات كبيرة أنه أثناء بحثه عن ديانة أهداه صديق ترجمة لمعاني القرآن بالإنجليزية فتحها فإذا بسورة القمر فقرأ (اقتربت الساعة وانشق القمر) فقال هل ينشق القمر؟ .. ثم انصد عن قراءة باقي المصحف ولم يفتحه ثانية .

وفي يوم وهو جالس أمام التلفاز البريطاني ليشاهد برنامجا على ال بى بى سى يحاور فيه المذيع ثلاثة من العلماء الأمريكان وكان يعتب عليهم أن أمريكا تنفق الملايين بل المليارات في مشاريع غزو الفضاء في الوقت الذي يتضور فيه الملايين من الفقر فظل العلماء يبررون ذلك أنه أفاد كثيرا في جميع المجالات الزراعية والصناعية...الخ ثم جاء ذكر أحد أكبر الرحلات تكلفة فقد كانت على سطح القمر وكلفت حوالي 100 مليار دولار فسألهم المذيع الكي تضعون علم أمريكا على سطح القمر تنفقون هذا المبلغ؟؟ رد العلماء أنهم كانوا يدرسون التركيب الداخلي لهذا التابع لكي يروا مدى تشابهه مع الأرض ثم قال أحدهم : فوجئنا بأمر عجيب هو حزام من الصخور المتحولة يقطع القمر من سطحه إلى جوفه إلى سطحه فأعطينا هذه المعلومات إلى الجيولوجيين فتعجبوا وقرروا أنه لا يمكن أن يحدث ذلك إلا أن يكون القمر قد انشق في يوم من الأيام ثم التحم وأن تكون هذه الصخور المتحولة ناتجة من الاصطدام لحظة الالتحام .

ثم يستطرد داود موسى بيتكوك : قفزت من على المقعد وهتفت معجزة حدثت لمحمد عليه الصلاة والسلام من أكثر من 1400 سنة في قلب البادية يسخر الله الأمريكان لكي ينفقوا عليها مليارات الدولارات حتى يثبتوها للمسلمين أكيد أن هذا الدين حق ... وكانت سورة القمر سببا لإسلامه بعد أن كانت سببا في أعراضه عن الإسلام

Icannot take your opinion of Dr. Najar, as you are not a geologist.
If a body of geology Scientists strip Dr. Najar of his credentials then I will side with you. I have taken Geolgy 20 years ago and I still remember my basics in rocks classification and defintions. You are not accurate when you limit the Metamorphic Rocks origin to only Sedimentary Rocks, as Metamorphic Rock defined as "Any of a class of rocks that result from the alteration of preexisting rocks in response to changing geological conditions, including variations in temperature, pressure, and mechanical stress. The preexisting rocks may be igneous, sedimentary, or other metamorphic rocks."
So please, excuse me if I am not going to take your word on Dr. Najar
and I would like to remind you of the ayah " wala yajrimanakum shana2anu qawmin 3ala anla ta3dilo"

Though in total I agree with genaral stance of the brother, who wrote the email that was sent to you, but we have to be accurate and fair and take each as a seperate issue and investigate it.

The picture you sent us is of a rille on the moon called Ariadaeus:

This rille is ONLY 300 KM, while the diameter of the moon is 3,400KM. Thus, it's impossible that this rille has slashed the moon like you say.

This rille is not the first on the moon or the Earth. The geological explanation for it is that it's a Graben, which is like a valley between two fault lines that moved away from each other:

I don't know what God means by "Inshaqa Al-qamar" - it can be real, a visual effect, or a symbolic meaning. Either way, whatever you sent as 'Evidence' that the moon was actually divided is incomplete and does not prove what you're saying.

On another account, islamically, do we KNOW FOR SURE that the quran has 'foretold' this incident? or was it included after it has happened (and all the people of the time saw it?). I kjonw there's a story that the prophet (saas) challenged the disbelievers that it will happen, but I've never seen this story authenticated.

I like you to read what I have commented on again, I have not rejected or accepted anybodies story and i only quoted what was circulted on (more than 1000 links if you google on the story) the internet.

I have read briefly before I qouted the story, the scientific definitions and I am aware of their meanings before I presented the story. I am not here to fill up the space with scientific info you can or any one find and read easly (as you already did). Even the link to Nasa above presented what you metioned even with out going any where. In other words you are stating the obvious.

I am saying it again, this is a story worth investigating it and find what truth behind it(and if any as I said above "Having said that I will associate the pic with the story. And any one can go and investigate and authenticate it" ),  Repeating Muhammad I have qouted the story as it was on the internet with the link to the pic, so you are not being accurate yourself when saying "whatever you sent as 'Evidence' that the moon was actually divided is incomplete and does not prove what you're saying." Because I have brought no evidence of my own, that was a part of the story. Now it would be worth it if you have the time to investigate the origin of the story and see if there is any missing information that will help you decide on the authenticity of the story.
Now as for quran when Allah says "inshaqa alqamar" it means as the arabic word means inshhaqa that the action of inshiqaq happened. Unless you wanna make it khyal and vague! I caution you here when it comes to quranic meanings to not dwell on it based on your own without refering to ahl atafseer and knowledge of the Arabic language, as obviously you don't seem to be neither one with all due respect.
To conclude I would not discount any story on just the basis of my own liking without investigating it and either prove it right or prove it wrong. I still say as I said before, resorting to fabrication to prove a point is not Islamic, on the contrary its against Islam as Islam is the religion of authentication, the religion of truth. We don't need to fabricate a story to prove something that Allah said it happened, because we believe Allah, and we know that one day that evidence will be so clear to us, but through true research and not fabricated one.

So good start Muhammad, continue to investigate the story I quoted above and find whats true in it and whats not and if that Man who converted exists, and if he does did he see the NASA program or not.
And all other questions that can come to one's mind.

Be careful as well not to jump to conclusions and accusing any one without evidence, as I have caustioned brother Samer above.  Just dont be hasty when you come back with any new findings :)
