I get that feeling on new PC's ... It doesn't need to be brand new, just a brand new fresh installation of windows

After suffering with getting all the drivers (if it's a new laptop) and getting everything in order. Suddenly, you get this weird feeling! It's so fresh, clean and running so fast

Then, with time, and use, the whole system starts to decay. The performance deteriorates and little by little goes back to being a slow turtle.

I ran a quick registry monitor tool from SystemInternals (now owned by Microsoft) and I was surprised to the number of registry keys accessed JUST when I clicked "Start".. 10,000 registry keys! Can you imagine? over 10,000 just to display that tiny menu?

Now, I know a bloated system when I see one. If my blog is going to make 10,000 queries to display one article. Then there has got to be something wrong

I've been playing with the Vista UI too, and same problem, actually I think it's even worse. It takes for ever. Querying all sort of useless keys from languages to debugger options!

I am really waiting for someone to come up with a real lightweight shell for windows. And then it will be perfect!

For now, I'm enjoying my freshly laundered laptop :)
