Our Town

 Our Town play reveals to us that most people don't understand that the power of life exists not only in the moment of great passion & joy, but in the details of everyday existence as well.

Our Town illustrates the universality of human concerns regardless of national identity, it could be my town or your town. It's a simple figure for life itself. There is no major conflict in the play, it concentrates on one important theme, appreciation the value of life we live, and human beings are victims of the rapid passage of time. In brief, the I act portrays the daily ritual morning for any town;preparing breakfast, neighbours chatting in street, kids heading off to the school, milk-boy delivers milk bottles, newspaper boy shouting to distribute journals...etc, II act is the second stage of life Love & Marriage...the most important act is the third one which portrays Dead in cemetery after they left their town (life)in other words.

Emilly is Our Town's most significant figure, the writer presents her in extraordinary scene, in cemetery after her death. She passed away  young while bringing her baby to life, now she is dead and flashbacks the most significant moments in her life, the shock when she realized that she was blind & ignorant!! once the most valuable moments were the simple ones!! not great passion or love or big achievements.. the writer gave her the chance to relive just one day of her life, it was her 10th birthday ,she misses the rooster at morning, the smell of hot breakfast bread, tea prepared by her mum, her blue school dress what she ever did not like before, her white rubber, she misses her brother simple gift which she did not like at that time because it's so simple..she misses every every simple details including the tick of the setting room's clock..!!

"Do every human being ever realize life while they live it?Every every minute?"

, awfully we think we are eternal & life would last forever, so we forget to live "real live & enjoy" the current moments of our life, we keep think in future while nice minutes fly with wind without being aware of that!!most people don't cherish life while still have it, we discover how precious it was after death!!or at least after we loose it!!

The reader goes over the first scene of simple day of the town (Life) quickly, thinks it's routine and boring and normal one, what's the meaning of describing sunrise, watching children games, watering flower, gathering for breakfast with the family!! but after the play ends he discovers that this scene is the most precious one of the Town (Life) and deserves to be read (live)in all our senses!!

So dears, do we have to be dead to appreciate the beauty of our days??
