I can go on forever, about things I miss in Amman, bit these little things make all the difference in the world to me ... Here's a little list of things I miss .... from my beloved, Amman
I miss walks till 3 AM, on the tungsten lights of the streets of Amman, from Shumaisani, all the way to El Hada'ek to Safeway, to Gardens street...
I miss riding with a visionary military leader, in disguise as a Taxi driver, He has 3 PHD's, he's an ex-minister and can speak 17 languages.
I miss eating dirty shawirma, from Reem.. or even worse from Al Arabi...
I miss little sandwiches from Le Gourmet...
I miss all the argeeleh places...
I miss long drives, listen to JFM 96.3, calling DJ Muhannad, or Rula Malki, or Maha Ksassieh or any of the other veteran DJ's and blabbering with them
I miss picking up the cellphone at 2AM, a friend is calling me to go have tea at Hashim or Cocktail at Lubnani snack (Bil Ishta wil 3asal)
I miss, warm nights, with my folks, sisters, and their little tribe each, and my brothers in all all talking loud and making bets about the soccer matches! While my sisters roll their eyes ..
I miss being forced to wake up in the morning to go to the farm with my folks, then retiring upstairs in the farm house to sneak a peak at what's new on Mazzika, while Abu Ali is making is amazing Iraqi tea.
I miss my family, every single one of them, every way, shape, form or age. Young and old .. close or far .. miss them all
I miss going to my uncle's house, and hearing him swear really dirty words at the TV :)
I miss going to Friday prayer, where the Imam is actually talking in Arabic....
I miss hearing the Adhan first thing in the morning, and my father's cough when he first wakes up...
I miss going to the bakery, first thing in the morning and getting red hot loaves of bread, fresh from the oven, and picking up some Hummus and Foul and Falafel and taking them back home...
I miss Going to my Sisters' first thing in the morning, where I would find my coffee ready, and my nieces and nephews all lined up to say bye khalo ...
But what I miss the most.......
Going to my favorite Barber, getting a hair cut, beard shaved, goatee outlined for 3 JD, while smoking, drinking coffee, watching TV, listening to the latest Jokes ... and just enjoying the simple life....
I used to go 2 or 3 times a week to the barber... It's such an AMAZING experience in Amman... An hour of pampering, (compared to the 10 minutes clipper work over here by a 400 pound lady)
