People, for god's sake, stop interpreting everything through the Quran. Please Stop. Because it's simply not like that.
The Quran is a holy book, that contains more in the lines on Virtue, moral guidelines and god's law (Sharia).
Not only that but it also contains a lot of historical information mentioned to set the record straight when contested by others.
Reading the Quran is also a means of warship. For every letter your read (especially during the month of Ramadan) reading the Quran you get more blessings and all counted towards good deeds.
But I am seriously upset with the amount of stories that are circulating all over the Internet claiming Miraculous contemporary findings that are EXTREMELY shallow.
I just would like to warn against all these acts. Although it might be done with the best of intentions, it's like any scientific discovery. May or may not be proved. Collecting proof from the Quranic verses is such a grave mistake that we should never fall into. It's like setting yourself for failure.
It's true, the Quran has so much knowledge inside it. Amazing amount of details and but using it to support or deny scientific theories is a very serious and dangerous thing
The Islamic rule that anything that was proven scientifically, and appears to contradict the apparent interpretation. Then we must reinterpret the verse or the matter.
There are two different concepts to distinguish between. Explanation and interpretation.
Explanation is as it means something that doesn't change with time. And example of that could be collected from the laws of inheritance. While interpretations can happen repetitively as more information become available. About specific matters.
The worst thing that anyone could attempt is to generalize an interpretation as a law or as the only truth. Specifically to prove a scientific finding. Or theory
Many have good intentions with what they are trying, unfortunately, they were not able to visualise how this may have back fired. And in recent days, it has, and on a grand scale.
Then came people with ill intentions, trying to cast doubt and ridicule and undermine the great religion and it's great book
So next time you get one of those, miracles of what ever, fight the urge to believe it. Or spreading it.
Memories....
very true..but you have to give me an example or a link..
gotta feed my curiousity( although i'm fasting:))
What about dr.elnajjar?
I think ya fandem..en ..there is a great difference between using al quran to prove theories....and using our limited scientific discoveries to prove the magnificence of quran!!
just to clarify certain issues because this generation is more into madeyat 3an elghaybeyat...so lots of scientists use their knowlege in calling muslims and others to the greatness of islam..
And dr.zaghloul's own definition of it shows that he knows how quran is greater than any science..:
I often find my self responding to whoever circulates these things to me explaining the very thing you are talking about here.
That said, we should be careful not to dismiss all such commentaries and explanations on this basis.
After all this whole book is the closest thing we have of God. If you think about it, we only believe and know God with no tangible physichal world connection between us and God except for this. When God talked to us, this is what God said. I beleive God's words can have more than one layer of meaning.
As for scientific relevance, one thing that struck and nearly literally caused to flip out of my chair was an ayah I knew since I was a little child and didn't really think about until I was watching a documentary about the trips Nasa made to Mars and trips to the bottom of the ocean.
The Ayah 21 of Surat al Anbiya2 "أولم ير الذين كفروا أن السموت والأرض كانتا رتقا ففتقنهما وجعلنا من الماء كل شيء حي أفلا يؤمنون". While most people would jump at the first part of the ayah and how it is extremely similar to the big bang and creation of the universe, I was shocked with the second part of the Ayah "وجعلنا من الماء كل شيء حي".
A Nasa scientist was talking about how the basis of their searching for life in Mars was based on the theory that sun light is the single most ingredient of life, and how when that turned out to be false as evidenced by the countless millions of species at the oceans where there is no sunlight at all. And how they then realized that Water is the one ingredient, which without, life would not exist.
Suddenly the words "وجعلنا من الماء كل شيء حي" flashed in my head like a big giant bulb.
This was something I noticed and not something people sent me in an email, and it came as a realization out of no where.
Point is, you need to educate people on using their heads, because that's what it all boils down to at the end of the day.
Don't just mind numbingly forward emails all day. Instead, carefully read and consider (and possible even do some reasearch and add your bit) before deciding to forward emails.
Yes, that verse, "And we created out of water everything living". It doesn't need much Interpretation nor explanation. It's clear. So clear actually. It's there strategically for us to contemplate and reflect upon the universe.
Now until someone discovers some Silicon based life where Ammonia is their water.... But what if that happens?
I have no idea, is it localized to planet earth? To the solar system? To the universe?
I really don't know, but so far, it still holds true, not only that, it's being supported by scientific fact!
Quoating Rasha : Using our limited scientific discoveries to prove the magnificence of quran .." Very true .. I like this :)
Do you know why?
Can you tell me what Dr. Alnajar said that you have quoted him?
Please give me the exact link, so we can address this point.
As we cannot generalize, as your point in general has some valid aspects to it.
Quran's wonders never end till the Day of Judgment. We are to think and try to extract the knowledge from Quran. Dr. Aljanjar I know personally since I was a kid. I repsect that man, that he is trying to explore Quran and its wondors.
Yet he is human and he can make mistakes.I don't doubt that he is aware of the issue you have presented in your post, as this is a common understanding among all people working in Islamic studies.
Please, give me a link to the issue.
Best regards,
Abdullah
As I mentioned in my previous comment, science thought everything living required the sun, and therefore "Scientifically" speaking, that verse was wrong for a very long time.
Science has eveolved and realized what was there in Quran since it came down to Mohammed Pbuh.
Since this is the word of the creator and designer of this universe, I would take them any day over any lesser designer/analyst. :)
So if at any point science says "You know what, we were wrong, its Amonia not water", to me it is only a matter of time before they retract that statement and go back to the words of the God that created the universe.
That to me is what beliefe is all about. Being happy that science agrees with you, and acknowledging that science evolves and can be wrong at times, and the words of God are absolute truth.
Abdullah, check his website, you will come across some nice, "tantalizing" scientific relations. But also ones that, .... well lets say we should be more conservative about. Go ahead, read it, and let me know what you think
Dima, Check your mail
Fadi, Thanks ... yes it's a great book, using it to explain our lowly day to day stuff might not be appropriate.
Roba, thanks dear
We shouldn't fall into the same trap that the church fell into during the dark ages
God bless
