I thought Jordan Planet was a little more enlightened and tolerant place than it appears to be. I'm very surprised at some of the posts and comments, not just here.
I'm sad to think that Qwaidar would insult Wedad and the faith she and I share, or that she would insult him or his faith.
My post is as is asking her to STOP her inflammatory articles and show some respect to other's beliefs and religions.
Again, I wouldn't ever, under any circumstance insult Christianity or it's followers, I wouldn't even hint of disrespect in any way. And all my post adhere (religiously) to these rules
Qwaider has not insulted no one, its Wedad that were doing the insults to the point I was tempted my self to insult her. On the contrary I think qwaider handled her more than fair.
I hope you don't follow in her footsteps.
We muslims we don't insult faiths, we do respect your right to have the faith you want. But when some one invent things up like Wedad did, that's when people get upset. Our manners that Islam taught us do not allow us insuting faith, as "to you is your religion, and for me is mine". We will not be sitting ducks our faith being insulted and be quiet about it. Qwaider tried to keep the brother love in humanity but she keeps intimidating us.
She does not want to be transparent, she deletes responses and argument rebuttals. I didn't see qwaider on the other hand does that. The only thing I saw he deleted my entry as i attacked her personally in a moment of anger of her behavior, and he was rightfully doing so "May Allah forgive me". Muslims are always refering of people of other religions as "Al-qorood o Il Khanazeer". I know you personally wouldn't do that, but we have many a scholar who does. Did that affect Christianity? Did that defame Jesus? No. Same for Islam.

You seem to have a very distorted view of what freedom of speech and expressn mean. If Arabs and Muslims were a Super Power, I will be the first to say BIG DEAL. But today the oppostie is true. We have been the subject of intense discrimination and centies of confrontations with Europe not to mention Orientialism which never seems to go away. Do you really want Arabs to listen to these insults in the streets of France or Germany and just look the other ways as people insult their religious symbols? Where will it end Hatem. It seems the theme of these posts is to encourage bashing Islam and Muslims, and that I will not let go uncontested.
I will support you as long as you are within the bounderies of Islam. I have not seen so far any thing that will alram me, but rest assured I will correct you if you need to be. As I have accepted correction when I did transgress what I do consider proper behavior in a moment of anger that was induced by when you talked about Wedad.

First off, we now need to redefine 'insult'. What you wrote WAS insulting, to any Christian. Talking about getting her fired from Jeeran was more than an insult. I know now that to say anything negative about Islam is an insult, but to say the same thing about Christianity is not.
Let me be clear: to call anyone one 'kafir' is an insult, whether it is what your relgion says we are or not. This word IS clearly heard from Friday preaching at any masjid in Amman.
Like Roba, I have also heard "Khanaziir"...I may not read Arabic, but I understand well. I have also heard it directed to me many times, in shops and on the streets. Hatem mentioned it on another post at Tololy's.
Also to redefine 'respect'.To talk of Muslims becoming Christians is not respectful, but to talk of Christians becoming Muslims is ok?. I've met Roba Kawwar's parents, and I know they made mistakes that hurt her. I also know many people like Wedad posted about, who had the exact same life change going in the other direction. But, if they had a web-site in Jordan, there lives would be in danger.
This is an incredible double standard, and the tirade of commenters in this line of thinking would be enough for any minority opinion to be silenced into never blogging again. And is why the other Christian bloggers are silent. I'm sure none of them does not want this kind of fire-storm on their blog. They all know it isn't worth it to provoke the responses here. It's a form of censorship.
So we are quiet, and don't often confront the contempt that we know lies under the thin veneer of 'respect' for us. Or the amazing disinformation and untruths about what we believe. But sometimes, like Wedad did, we get tired of the 'yes, massa" stance and provoke the tirade. I wrote an article for VIVA in July on this subject, and my editors made me re-write it 3 times to make it 'palatable' enough. Maybe I'll ask Khalidah to post it for me.

The two articles one is inflammatory about some writing asking to drive the Copts out of Egypt (who he apparently say in parody) while the other talks about a false and terrorist (god)
Muslims and Christians in Jordan used to debate religous matters face to face, usually with tact and extreme care ... but not in blogs which are becoming a public outlet for 'hidden feelings' of some people on both sides.

Now Answering the second part of Kinzi's comment.
Kinzi, there are bigots on both sides of the fence. The rule in Islam is CLEAR as the Sun. Muslims are to respect and assist "People of the book". That's the rule.
People tend to go to extremes not because it's mandated by religion, But rather because this is their own fault. These can not be taken as a proof against the religion itself. Which if anything promotes tolerance and understanding to the extreme.
My only objection was to the fact Wedad asked a question about a controversial article she posted and refused to accept comments. It was obvious the intention was not a debate but propaganda. She is entitled to say what she wants but other bloggers are entitled to disagree or agree, either directly on her blog or on theirs.
Other than that, I don't have any issue with her.
Most of you guys who are defending wedad or even tolerence haven't read her articals..and most importantly haven't read her comments on my blog which stirred this whole thing from the begining..
All i did was protest to the fact that she is using pieces of verses from the quran in a wrong way that would misinform about my holy book..and she is calling for muslims to leave their religion and be christians or else they will go to hell!!as clear as that..
Her comments on my post was very rude and she clearly said we are blinded and ruled by satan..
And she wouldn't stop..even days after the whole issue was over and she deleted the posts..i have over a hundred comments on the posts because she would come again and throw rocks at us..
So..it is not about disrespect or telling her what she would and wouldn't say!!

The diffculty in debating religious issues is that we have a polarized environment thanks to the cartoons and the pope.
May be in a different time, this discussion would not have registered on any ones' radar.
be that as it may, it does not hurt for as to be more sensative to others and as for the very religious people on both sides, please rememebr that we have debated religion for 14 centuries (and longer if you count jewish christian debate) and not much can be added except to fuel resentment.
BUT I am all for exposing discrimination and intolerance. This is not debating religion, this is working towards a better society. And as a Muslim, and in the majority, I do feel a sense of responsiblity that no acts of bigotry are commmitted in my name.
Anyway, since Wedad's posts are not available, it seems comments were as much a problem as posts, and my laundry and dishes are piling up, up, I need to drop it as well.
I am sorry for entering in frustration whichly was partly fueled by recent posts on other blogs (and my own negative experiences), and for not believing the best about this situation. Seeing your 6/25 post mentioned by Basem helped me see a bit more of your pursuit of things I would like to see reformed also.
