Just like old faithful. The event that never fails to happen.... Strikes again this year ... Yes ... Ramadan Olympics, officially start Saturday, Oops, sorry Sunday, No god damn it .. it's Saturday ... no Sunday .... Saturday, Sunday Saturday .. sunday .......

Well, well, well ... Who would have guessed, The local Mosques have decided to go against ISNA and declared Sunday, the first day of Ramadan. Surprise, surprise!

I am officially SICK and tired of this game, the charade, this "follow your own community" bullshit that keeps rising up year after year in the crazy little 3-person Muslim community that lives in the Seattle area.

I can't but continue to be amazed by the level of stupidity that community leaders continue to demonstrate, I guess they take that after the commander in Chief. And can't make their goddamn minds about a simple thing as moon sightings!

If a Muslim, anywhere in the world declare Ramadan on a day, the rest of the Nation should automatically follow, There is no debate, there is no question, there is no room for interpretations ... IT IS CLEAR! The rule is clear the community IS STUPID! (if they have good intentions) and has sick hidden agendas if we don't

I just fail to understand the motives. I just can't explain it. I can't find a cause or a reason! It's Always, ALWAYS, like this

The situation is worse during Hajj, when we have 10 days to make our goddamn minds, YET the religious leaders here have the time to debate if people in Mecca, standing on Arafat, are standing on the wrong day!! Doh! WAKE UP!

Would there EVER be some unified declaration of Ramadan.... EVER? I hope I see it, in my lifetime

the isna is following the fiqh council which is now abandoning the literal sighting of the moon and relying on astronomical calculations instead. in my opinion this is a better option and people will eventually get around to adpoting it.

in any case, the whole idea of muslims living in the west is kind of new in the community sense. it's larger now than ever before and most are new to the country so they are just as confused on what to do, hence following their own country is the likely scenario although the better option is to follow the observers of the land you currently reside in.
Nas, I totally understand and agree, but check my previous article on why the Astronomical sighting is not enough. (mirage effect)
I also propose a way to actually unify the matter and resolve it once and for all, to ALL countries of the world

    Ya hala bi-Nas wallah

Funny, I seem to have secular calendars that always get the start of Ramadan right.

Anyway, listening to you all encourages me when we Christians have internal debates about like matters.God help us all!
Ramadan Kareem everyone! Arabic calendar depends on the moon, declaring Ramadan depends on moon, if the whole Islamic nation was united in one country then Ramadan and other occasions will be announced at the same day.
Out of subject but i like the background..very matching to the occasion!! Happy Ramadan to all!

I have lived in the US long enough and I know is behind every current or group. The issue is an old issue, and based on new technologies, geopolitical tendencies, current situation of the Ummah, I have taken the following stand:
    1. Sighting is a must (calculation is not enough and only come into effect if we could not sight the moon) as the hadeeth of the prophet SAW say it as simple as it can be "Soumo le ro2yateh"
When the prophet says it that way he meant it that way. This is 3ebadah and in 3ebadah you follow the instructions from Allah as is without any innovation, otherwise Allah will not accept it.

    2. We need to follow the sighting in the center of the earth, which is Mecca. And that’s where I agree with brother Samer.
    3. If the Saudi government made a mistake, it will take that responsibility and not us as well known, and our fasting will be correct and accepted by Allah.
    4. The Unity of the Ummah is obligatory, and no buts about it.
And moon sighting is no exception. With improved ways of communication there is no reason why every community fast on its own. What was at one time acceptable because of lack of communication is not any more.
    5. Our differences with Saudi Gov. should not lead us to unjust
decisions they happen to have the most sacred site on earth.
If we need to do something, it’s to work with that Gov to reach a better understanding and stop this whole nonsense.
    6. All voices that dispute about Hajj and Eid Aladh7a has no basis what so ever as the 7aj is based on standing on 3arafah,
as our beloved prophet SAW has said" Al7aj 3arafah". Accordingly its mere stupidity that people standing on 3arafat that day and some one says well I don't believe that is 7aj.
These voices should bring evidence stronger than the 7adeeth to be accepted, and in any case its the Saudi authorities based on moon sighting are doing that for us.
For Allah's sake wake up people our Unity is more important than any thing else as its obligatory and there is nothing above it. Allah has said " Wa3tasimo be 7abli ellahi jamee3an wala tafaraqoo" two orders to the same effect; UNITY
Are we that stupid to keep arguing about unity? Do you expect to be given Victory on the long run and you are not united? Keep dreaming.

I don't want to make it long but I have to say this:
When the prophet SAW died, he was left for a while without being buried (and we know Ikram al mayet dafnuh), does that mean the sa7abah has committed a sin because they left him unburied?
Sa7abah were Fuqha2 fi deen and they know what are the priorities in Islam, as Unity and a State that resembles that unity is above all from understanding of that order of Allah in the ayah quoted above.
Hatha markaz ada2u feena, mata kant qoloubana 3ala qalbi rajulin wa7id estardadna deenana al7aq wahaybatana bayna alumam
I cannot see it more simple that that. Ramadan moon sighting is just another sign of that.
May Allah guide us to Unity and accept our deeds and worship
    Aameen.
    Asalam 3alaykom,
    Abdullah..barak allah feek..masha2 allah 3aleek..
Unity is the essence of islam and being together in everything is an order!! the prophet(PBUH) said: 3alaykom beljama3a..
    barak allah lakom fee ramadan..jamee3an:):)
1st of all i wanna say Happy Ramadan to all ..and  espically 2

kinzi, :) Trust me, we still don't know what day it is ;). Yeah, we both suffer from some rigid mentalities.... God help us all.
Samer Marzouq, Ya ahlan Samer, yes that is absolutely correct. Check my previous post where I propose a new way to declare Ramadan.
Summer, Yes the carpet matches the drapes ;)
