Ok, so far, I have been winning the battle against comment spam, referer spam(one r, some dude decided it's like this), and link spam... but will they ever stop?

    no

Every single day, I get something in the neighborhood of 100 spam comments. Luckily, nothing is slipping thanks mostly to my intelligent system that identifies, and rejects spam

But truth be said, we all suffer from it. Some company attempting to promote Viagra, or Cialis or Prozac, or Ringtones and for some unknown reason they think that it's open season on blogs, and that they can get away with it.

Truth be said, they are, apparently, they're able to spam a bunch of blogs to oblivion (sad if you think about it) and the only tool that bloggers have is their keen eye for spotting and deleting such offensive material

There are many reasons why they do this, one is boosting their search engine rankings (With the comments) for that I advise everyone who doesn't have measures in place to add the "nofollow" attribute for external (or suspicious links) posted by commenters

The second reason is to fool a viewer into following it by posting a little nice message like "Nice site" "Good post" ... etc and injecting their poison in the Commentor URI field, again nofollow will help, but people will eventually end up on their site.

Many bloggers have resorted to personally authorizing every single comment, which is a long and tiresome process and might cause discussions to get stale.

So anyway, my solution was to track, detect and authorize these unwanted posts. And so far, I've been able to capture a huge amount of sources and store them in my database, every time they comment, they fall in my trap (aka honey pot) and not only they get the red STOP sign, I track and find all their siblings. People that "would be" future spammers

I'm so excited that last night, my system simple caught a guy trying to spam from Jordan with some offensive words, and sure enough, he fell for it. And now I own his life.

Yes Hany, You're screwed, I got all your information, I know where you work and come Sunday :) ..... things will happen

for the crawlers that go up and down this page 4000 times a day, I give you your next target, Here's his email.... feast your eyes: hanyoodeh@yahoo.com hanyoodeh@yahoo.com

My final system of defence is good old supervisor power, Thanks to SweetAdmin, I am able to allow some of my faithful, responsible friends and readers to actually approve the comments if they think they might contain some offensive material. And because they're scattered across the timezones, there will be no time when everything is out in the open and naked.

So 7ala, Summer, Hayati, Red Rose, SweetAdmin... Thank you all for a job well done
