I hate IE, I hate Firefox ... and quite frankly both are bad!

It's really a nightmare. I was trying to add some controls for my registered users to allow them to approve and [un]approve comments.

And I hit this stupid bug, and another difference between IE and Firefox! Each one behaved differently. IE did the right thing. Firefox as usual screwed things up...

After fixing it for both. Turns out IE6 (was developing on IE7) had a totally different kind of bug.

On deeper inspection IE6 was doing the "righter" thing what ever that is.

Anyway, after scratching my head for few hours not knowing why or how to fix it. I managed to get it done, and phew ... it's working again now

God this is such a nightmare to all the web developers out there.... My heart goes out to you... all of you

by the way, is this preview thing an ajax or a client side?
Client side ya Sadeeji .. Ajax is too expensive ...
And no, Firefox sucks ... It has more issues than people care to admit ... but ... khalas it's the hype, it's the Ipod ... it's the new kid on the block :)
I always face the same problem when I try to work on my template by either modifying my CSS section, or by coding JavaScript. Only the basic things work for both browsers!

During the past three days I re-coded a big section of my commenting system and came to a conclusion that even JavaScript runs differently on each of the two browsers!!

Actually, the cause for this mess is that Microsoft doesn't comply with international standards and creates products according to its own “standards”.

People developed the impression that "other" or "3rd party" browsers and web-page development platforms are the cause of the problem because they don't render correctly what was designed using FrontPage, or because Internet Explorer doesn't render correctly what was designed using them.

This is wrong people; they don’t work correctly with Microsoft's products because Microsoft doesn’t comply with W3C standards, whereas those product do that literally.

FireFox may have technical issues Qwaider, but IE has more “moral” issues to deal with :)

    :))
    Allah Ya3teek el 3afieyh!!
No Ghaith, FireFox is literally Riddled with problems, it just has not been around long enough to find all of them
If anything should be the "standard" it should be what 90% or more people are using and got used to doing. No matter how W3C see it.
If people are used to seeing a Steering wheel in the car, that's a standards. I don't care if ISO says it should be a Joystick.
W3C have their set of issues to deal with. that's one thing. FireFox on the other hand is not that much better. Mainly because It TOO is not compliant. In fact, out of the three top browsers (IE>83%, FF~14%, and Opera) Opera is the most compliant. And guess what the most UGLY
IE doesn't have any moral issues, what are you talking about!?

The fact that IE is the most tolerant of all browsers (It renders shit man, anything you throw at it, it doesn't complain, it doesn't nag, it doesn't cry to you and barf in your face) That's a WAY better approach to standards, than the stupidity of FireFox.
Now Don't get me wrong, I like all browsers the same, they all have their ups and downs. But don't be fooled by the hypes (I've been around the hood manyatimes to be fooled with this junk) And FireFox is one of these hypes. Many people just recite, mindlessly what ever they hear. Click on the link to the sides to learn more about FireFox myths :)
No, it's not the browser made in Heaven!
Remeber, thank god for Microsoft, without it, we'd be paying $50 to netscape for the browser! This competition is the only thing keeping FireFox free. Believe me :)
I disagree, practice does not define standards. Standards are there for a good reason Qwaider, which is to make things work with their full potential and establish a reference that everybody should be using to be compatible with others.

Standards are scientific measures as well; they are not merely reference points for compatibility. Standards are only put by experts in the fields, or “scientists” to ensure that things work with their maximum efficiency; even if 99% of people are driving cars with steering wheels and the international standards say that the correct gadget to steer a car is a joystick, then it must be a JOYSTICK! You should know that standards do not by any mean necessary reflect the view or the practice of the public.

The reason all of us should be supporting standards is that they are there to protect us; the customers. Everybody should be supporting products that abide with standards, because it will be a big mess otherwise, and companies can exploit compatibility to enforce its own products on the market, the exact thing that Microsoft is doing!

Microsoft has been creating its own standards since the very beginning. It’s not only about Internet Explorer and W3C. Every single Microsoft product is made to work best with other Microsoft products, but not with any other, giving everybody the feeling that all non-Microsoft products are worthless, while in most cases they are not.

Am not being affected by any kind of hypes for Firefox, am a bit above being an “average-user” or an Internet rookie; I don’t follow, I only see for myself.  I’ve been dealing with browsers the two ways: developing web pages and browsing the net. I also carry MCSD and I should be rooting for Microsoft you know ;) but I can’t pretend not to see the facts.

For me, FireFox is not a hype of the year you know; I’ve been using it for a while and couldn’t see better for a performance myself! Even if IE is currently more compatible with standards, I’d still stick to FireFox because I know Mozilla is working to make it more compatible with standards while Microsoft is working to make IE work best with their own products.
By the way, I’ve checked FireFox Myths but I couldn’t find any one good TECHNICAL argument showing a bad side of FireFox. On the other hand, I can see this page  crashing my IE version 6.0.2900 which happens to be an up-to-date version of IE6 that ships with WinXP SP2.

I love Microsoft more than you think Qwaider, I believe Visual Studio .NET is the best application development platform to come ever! I only have to let go for Internet Explorer because it’s showing the ugly face of Microsoft :(
    It's a lost cause....
I'm not going to change this to IE vs FireFox fest fight...

Trust me what I tell you, I know more about standards than you think. I would ask you to not underestimate me on this one.
But read your comment, the way you present it, make as if IE is designed to "work with Microsoft better" when in fact, it's designed to work with the WEB better. Compatibility is more important than standard my good friend. If a standard tells you water is bad for you, tell them to go shove it!

The customer is ALWAYS right, not the stupid scholar (yes me) who sits in his ivory tower just dreaming how it SHOULD, MUST, MAY, MAYNOT, be like...
By the way, that crash is an access violation in javascript engine :) and has nothing to do with following the standards. A FireFox specific page can be created too.

The best part, I LOVE THIS WAR between them! I want better, Cheaper browsers that do EVERYTHING

    Don't you agree?
    *Hates Web design*

    Allah ey3eenkom!
Qwaider nothing in the world is better for compatibility than standards, don't even try to convince me otherwise!! bil 3agel bardo :D

Standards never cause problems to anybody. Only because people don't comply with standards they created a problem out of it! Standards are here only to our own good!

That bug is for the JavaScript engine of IE, it doesn't work in FireFox and you can't make a "version" of it that will crash FireFox!

Anyway, I don't want to quarrel over this via comments. I'll wait till you get to Jordan sometime and invite you for a "furious" cup of coffee ;P
Ah sa7, I forgot to say that I too cheer for cheaper software that will do everything :D

By the way Qwaider, feel free to kick me off anytime if am annoying you! 3aref 7ale tene7 oo ra9e 6anjara :P
    Ghaith ... ba3dain ma3ak?
Standards that don't make your life easier you don't want them! Pure and simple

I work in Standards ya zalameh, they are my life, I know exactly the limitations of them. Especially when they're against the "defecto" standard.
The customer is the final say. Many standards came to exist, and went with the wind... many Non-standards come to exist based on an implementation (the other way around) and many implementations are a million times better than the standard.
The standard can tell you how to build a house that doesn't fall down, but they don't tell you how to make it look pretty, and how people will like it!

As for Bugs in FireFox, ya 7abeebi... there are bugs, and it DOES crash and it crashed on my machines (claiming not enough memory on a machine that has 2GB ram!)
No ghaith ... You're not Tanjara .. but it's so hard to convince people these days..
    binfa3 ... "trust me"?
5alas ya zalameh MA BEDDE AL3AB!

I trust you, but how can I trust that you really know what you're trusting yourself with, or ...

Agollak 5alas balash, I trust you oo bekaffe :D
