Is this even ethically acceptable? What are we coming to? We are the Borg! You will be assimilated, Resistance is Futile!

VeriChip, the company that makes Human-Implantable RFID (Radio Frequency identity) Chips have announced recently the sale of this new technology for implantation in Newborns, and military enlisted personnel

The technology is simple, A little chip-in-a-capsule is implanted under the skin and is activated by using a RF receiver. It has a unique identity so everyone is different than the others.

    rfid

The US Government started adding these little chips inside the Passports as a security measure (although I doubt the actual security behind it being all that strong, but that's a different issue)

The problem I have with this is that this will violate everyone's privacy. The minute you walk into a department store they will know your complete history in addition to other things and might be able to target advertising to cater to your trends. But WHO gave them the right or my authorization to do this? Besides, I don't want someone to track my geo-location and be able to pin point me at any second (a little modification to your cell phone might allow it to transmit your RFID, but if you have a cell phone on you anyway you're locatable)

Anyway, if you though Blog Tagging was nasty, imagine how troubling this might be. I am not a machine or a piece of merchandise that a manufacturer wants to track, As a human being I refuse to be identified this way. Hey, What happened to the retinal scanners that will identify you just by looking at you (Similar to the "Minority Report" movie)

Who knows what's next. But I'm not happy with this progress! Just for the fact that this RFID adds nothing to your brain activity, and doesn't enhance any of your physical abilities.

The other issue, is the implications of long term exposure to radiation (no matter how seldom it's being used to transmit, it's freaken doing it literally under-your-skin) Would this pause any health risks? And in Infants. My god!

Ok I perfectly understand where your going with this. Regarding the cons, privacy interference, or radiation. It is pretty bad, but in the end its upto you whether you want it or not (its not obligatory right? hope not). But while i was reading your blog I finally thought that there is finally a way to locate murderers, or even better if someone had their child kidnapped and their child had the implant they could find him/her in a jiffy. ;)

But in the end they will be tonnes of ways around this in the future, people surgically *switching* those locaters (also like in minority report with the eyeballs *shrug*), or configuring the devices to transmit different signals.

In the end im gonna have to go against it, since it has more cons than pros.

    Nice post man

The company name is Verichip, not Varichip, this is their website, browse around a bit n youll find very intresting facts and video footage on there, a few interviews with people on their experiences with the radio frequency chips.

It is true that the American government has ordered several millions of Passport ID tags, but im sorry to dissapoint you because they firstly havent started "adding" them to passports yet, and secondly, didnt order them from Verichip, but instead placed an order from a german company with offices in San Jose. the company name is infineon technologies, and again, here is their website.

To this point, No laws have been passed to back "planting" RFID tags into people, (In fact, Most states have already passed laws to ban forced human RFID chipping.. one specific case that you mightve heard of is Wisconsin's experience with the matter) theres even a lot of skepticism over whether it will happen or not, i do see your point on bringing up the subject, and i appreciate it, but still, it doesnt harm to do a bit of research into things before posting them on a blog to potentially the whole world.
    scary stuff!!

And what kind of parents would allow this to happen to children?
What? it's like having an antenna over our heads:)
Thank you Odeh for the lovely addition. Much appreciated. I've fixed the typo :) Sorry
As for the Passports I am almost postitive I read it somewhere. But it might be at a future time
I'm already familiar with Infinino's technologies (Smartcards ..etc) but I didn't know they actually ordered the Passport RFID's from them.

Really thanks for the wonderful addition :)
(sorry your comment had to be authorized do to some "interesting" security related things. But it's very welcome) Which explains why it didn't show up right away
