Answering Eweeks top 25 products of the last 25 years

The original article posted her: Eweek, eWEEK Labs' picks of the top 25 products of the last 25 years.

My list is a little bit different, here's my list (not ordered)

1. THE PC (can't say IBM, because it wasn't only IBM who developed it. IBM may have made the original architecture, but it's the IBM clones that won the market)
2. the Mac (The mac, is like the phoenix, rising from the Ashes over and over. When Apple at some point was at the brink of bankruptcy, Microsoft invested 150Millin dollars and now it's back)
3. DOS (This old OS just refuses to die. It lived on and on, and if it wasn't for it we wouldn't have had PC's in the 80's)
4. Windows (The first real main stream GUI, which evolved from DOS and became the mighty server and client architecture that hundreds of millions of people use today. Beating so many competitor like GEM, MacOS, DesqView, OS2 and so many others and establishing itself as the dominant desktop OS and recently overcome UNIX in the server market as well)
5. MacOS (MacOS, with all it's revisions, paved the way of the shape of things to come. If it wasn't for the beauty and elegance of the MacOS we would still be using command prompts. Yes, the original was Xerox but MAC was the os the actually made it to he public)
6. Cell phones (With penetration reaching 60% of population in some areas, Cell phone is arguably the most successful product ever made in the world)
7. CDROM (many people remember life before the CD and life after the CD, Slow, deteriorating quality tape formats had to give way to the fidelity of the CDs. It allowed for huge storage for PC's as well, making floppy drives a thing of the past. CD's eventually being phased out to thier cousins the DVD's)
8. Media Players (Solid state, and Hard-drive based are the trend of the future, holding data, pictures, videos, music in such a compact space that makes them really handy and easy to use. The success of the IPod is just a step on the long road of the digital media players)
9. Web Browsers, Mosaic/Netscape/IE (Mosaic was the first, Netscape soon became the world leader. Later to be displaced by Microsoft Internet Explorer. The market is far from stable these days due to the emerging new competition from Mozilla, firefox, Opera and other browsers. The road is still unclear for the future)
10. Databases (DBIII+, Access, Foxpro, Informix, Oracle, Sybase, MSSQL, MySQL, Without these the realm of database management would continue to be held by the archaic COBOL and other proprietary systems)
11. Spreadsheets (Lotus 123, Excel. These have totally revolutionized business in a such an efficient way that it's hard to imagine corporate business without them)
12. DTP (PageMaker, QuarkExpress, Ventura, these have changed the whole approach to developing printed material. Bringing the quality of newspaper class publishing to the users in their homes)
13. Word Processors (the world before these was filled with pens and typewriters after them, everyone was able to visually process their documents. The most amazing addition was probably the addition of Spell checking)
14. Graphic Illustrators/Manipulators (The graphical world was based on optical manipulation of imagery, but with these, the vivid world of computer enhanced graphics came to life. And a whole new type of art has come to existence)
15. Computer generated Animation (In the 1970's the best animation was based on hundreds of hours of shot by shot animation of miniature models to give the illusion of motion. After these, we got masterpieces like Shrek, Star Wars worlds, and many impossibly special effects)
16. Visual Basic, Visual Studio (the difference is so clear, before visual-basic everything was command line based with a little menus here and there and all running under dos, After VB everyone became able to create their own windows applications with ease)
17. RAD (Java, .NET, PHP ...etc) Rapid application development with huge libraries for Java, .NET, complied or otherwise made a huge difference again in the way approach programming leading the world to all the web technologies and services we see today (including stuff like Ajax..etc)
18. HTML (Imagine the world without the markup language that is the building blocks of all web pages)
19. VOIP (This is one amazing revolution, moving the world away from the control of the telecoms)
20. Laptops (Finally, we became free from being chained to or desks)
21. PDA. (Palm pilot, Windows CE. With these devices, people were finally able to take all their addresses, appointments, documents and many other things on the road with them. In a compact way)
22. Smartphones (Symbian, WinCE) A cross between PDA's and Cell phones, You can't go wrong when you merge two successful technologies together (or do you? What about that stupid Fridge with a TV in it!?)
23. Networks. Without these, business efficiency would not exist (nor would network games exist)
24. WLAN Cross Networks with Laptops and you're back to being chained to a cable, add this little thing and you're free again to do all your work(or network gaming)  way from your desk
25. Media encoding (MPEG, Real ...etc) Yes, CD's were fantastic, but the raw format consumed a lot of valuable space and bandwidth (still does) If it wasn't for these technologies, Digital Satellite, Media players, Cell phones... and so many other things wouldn't exist today
26. Processors (8086, 80386, Pentium, AMD x64) No need to say much, other than with AMDx64 really embarrassed Intel
27. Printers (Laser, InkJet) before these, you had to wait for 10 to 15 minutes for your page to come out on your ugly dot-matrix printer
28. Digital Photography. No need to say much
29. SSL (otherwise no monetary transactions would be possible n the Internet)
30. Online services (Shopping, ordering, maps, search,mail ...etc)
31. Linux. The operating system that finally made Microsoft WAKE UP!
