Cutting the internet!

However, I fear that he's going to fail miserably!

Not only are kids these days more attached to the internet, way more than we ever were or will be. They live in this virtual world as an extension of their own. Severing the connection with their virtual identity, I fear, will have catastrophic results. 

You see, the millennials are different than Gen X in many ways. The most prevalent is that they consider the modern communications as a extension of their ego. They don't exist without them and pushing them to revert to the life of their parents isn't doing them or their parents any favors.

The world has changed and the older generations need to understand this. It simply doesn't work or benefit anyone to pull the next generation too close to resemble our own. What needs to happen is a form of coexistence between the two. The old need to understand and contain the new. But not attempt to imprison them in our old idealistic view of the world. It's no longer valid, and it will not be moving forward. The world just keeps changing!

I remember our parent's generation attempting to control our habits. TV times were limited, and they thought the devil lived inside this box. All of these efforts failed and everything that was banned turned out to become our most favorite. We became more eager the more they were strict!

I think we need to communicate with the new generations. At their own level and using their own language. We need to attempt to be courteous guests. The world is going to be theirs.

If parents are fearful of the amount of time their kids are spending online! Then they can simply come to an agreement and specify and organize the access to the internet. This organization will give the kids structure and make them aware of the value of what they have. But again, this needs to be done at their own level without prohibiting anything.
