"Every frame of reference has a main focus as it's greatest strength. It's inherently it's greatest weakness as everything else becomes a blind spot."

I understand this is a convoluted concept, so I'll try to explain it

Let's say you're an Accounting major. You know everything about numbers. They make you feel powerful and informed. You can tell everything about the financial health of any organization just by glancing over the balance sheet and Income statement. You are the King of your domain.

This is your greatest strength and you're really good at it. You know it by heart and inside out.

But because of your frame of reference (accounting) you lack the ability to see beyond what you don't understand. A human resources report might sound greek to you. IT summary appears to be be alien talk! You just can't view these things from your greatest strength.

Sure you can completely get the financial aspect of any organization, but that is only one dimension of the whole. There are so many others, and to each strengths and weaknesses.

This peripheral vision is a great tool to focus on what matters to you. Like a hunter aiming at a prey. He cancels everything else out. Making him extremely vulnerable.

    The bottom line is,

Next time you feel that you own the world of a certain area. Remember that there might be other ways to look at the same problem and perhaps those other perspective can use a little push to attain success.

Perhaps now you can explain why a brilliant computer engineer can hardly hold a two sentence conversation. Although there's more to it than that.
