Every time I get one of those unsolicited email spam from the Arab world that has a "job" offering, I can't stop my self from laughing hysterically!

It seems that when it comes to technology in general and IT in particular we have completely missed the buss. I mean we seriously don't get it! Or at least some don't get it. Perhaps that's why they end up in my junk folder. But that's another story for another day.

What drew my attention is the ridiculous ways they ask for certain things. "10 years of experience", "15 years of experience", "Master's degree or better", this certification or that. Pure junk if you ask me. Since I had the honor to work with some of the world's greatest minds that have "fortunately" dropped from collage to build the next big thing and many have succeeded (many more have failed to be honest)

But I laugh at the requirements. You want someone with a Master's degree to work as your Monkey? Don't get me wrong, and all due respect to all degrees out there. But Collage degrees don't teach you how to code! I don't care which school you graduate from. They don't teach you how to be a great software developer. This can be generalized to just about anything you see in IT. The degree/certification is great, but means nothing! You MUST be passionate about it!

Just like in Business Administration. The degree means nothing if the person doesn't have the passion and the will to succeed and be something. Just look at the thousands of failed businesses who were created by BA graduates that FAILED miserably. Having the education helps, A LOT. But does not guarantee success.

Now I know, I sound like someone who dropped out of high school and trying to justify how this is great. But the fact is not. I didn't drop out and I fulfilled (and still fulfilling) the educational "dream!". But out of experience I can say, a degree is no guarantee for anything. It's sad to see businesses limiting their employment pool to a only those that have specific degrees.

Chances are, those who have those degrees are probably not interested in your job. Seriously, when the whole economy tanked, few areas remained in demand and IT and software development are couple of those areas.

Let me be honest here, a monkey can do this work. A talented monkey will know how to run computers of the modern age. It's no longer a PHD challenge to make the computer "work". You don't need to understand how things work to make them work. Computers are starting to reach that point and they will continue to get easier and more transparent that I predict in the future computers will not even be thought of as a helper but as an interface to the rest of the world. A transparent window. Maintaining it and keeping it going is becoming easier and simpler and again, I predict that it will be able to self sustain and self heal soon.

For now, I'll just continue to laugh hysterically every time I get one of these. One day when I create my own company, I hope I look back and educate whoever taking care of HR that it's the people that count. Not the degrees. Not those empty, pale, framed things that people so proudly show off knowing completely in their heart of hearts that they didn't earn them.

    Memories....

Jewelry words man. This is really a huge problem in the middle east in general which I really hate. I have graduated 1 month ago, in the interviews, they were making fun out of me because I have no certificates or experience. I asked them to put me in a real environment test(s) but they refused. They claim that as a fresh a graduate I will be ruining their company. Hilarious.

I know many people who achieved many certificates through Pass4Sure and TestKing, and they got a job quickly. I know that I am better than them because I refuse to do so and follow the crowed but they think that is a pure شطارة.

I think companies in the middle east and specially the Jordanian companies must change their policies and but new job seekers to real tests to check their skills and knowledge instead of seeking certificates that are fake.

I wish I can publish your post in newspapers so they can read and learn how fail and stupid their policies are.

Khalas listen. When I open my business in Jordan consider yourself hired! And any one of your friends you feel is smart enough to do the job and didn't fake their way to a stupid certification that means absolutely nothing!
