The most amazing two words you can say to anyone. "I Quit", (well actually one word and one letter)!

It's so refreshing to be able to talk to your boss, look them in the eyes, and say... "I quit"

Now, don't just go out and quit your jobs to experience this amazing feeling. These two words are the culmination of months of research, then finding the job, going interviews, and the madness of getting hired these days. Then after everything had been cosmically aligned, you may go to your boss and say those two lovely words...

To be completely honest, those are the two worst words managers like to hear. If anything it's because you're leaving them on your own terms, not theirs.

It also means that your manager will be driven to work hard on many fronts, finding a replacement, transitioning things you're working on, make sure current work doesn't slip. So many things they need to do, added work, that you just slammed on their plates.

And the worst part? There's nothing they can do about it!

So whenever you have the chance, make sure you're compassionate and considerate about handing in your resignation.

Remember, it's a small world, and you might end up having to work with or worse FOR the same people again. So ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS leave on good terms.

Give your manager enough time to adapt to the new reality. Help them find a replacement, or better recommend one. Also plan your final days at work very tightly. To make sure all your items have been transferred to someone else. Do not drop the ball yet, you still have moral obligation towards your current job to make sure that your departure, will not disrupt the business.

Make sure all your peers, partners, customers and business "relatives" are aware of your plans. You're "moving on", so you don't want them to be surprised. Give them a chance finalize any last minute business matters, and perhaps, to congratulate you. (And maybe submit their resumes to you so that you can save them too :))

    Then....

Take a few minutes to enjoy your victory over tough macro economic crises. If you land a job during this economy, then you should celebrate.

Finally, march on to your bright future, armed with your past, to overcome all challenges coming ahead.

Nice post and very good tips. However, I am never patient enough to do that.

We have to learn to be patient. It's a talent, and a very important "game" that we need to master.
