Entrepreneurs speak about entrepreneurship as the best thing in the world, everything else is crap

Open source developers speak about open source as the best thing in the world.

Online advertising publishers, talk about online advertising as the best thing in the world.

Do you see the trend here? It's the same-old-same-old!

Let me explain a bit why!

Entrepreneurship is not for everyone. People fail WAY MORE than they succeed. In fact, 9 out of 10 fail. Those are pretty bad odds!

For the 1 in 1000 that succeeds beyond imagination and goes on to make millions and write books about how they did it. The odds are REALLY against you. Entrepreneurship is not for the remaining 999 who failed, or barely make ends meet!

OpenSource is a fantastic programming CONCEPT. It doesn't mean anything more than that. It doesn't guarantee ANYTHING, not quality, not security, not compliance, not supportability and certainly not free. It is not a seal of approval or a guarantee!

In fact, 99.9% of users could not care less about the source. Be it open or closed. Who cares? Except the, again, 1 in 1000 who actually does change the code. Or the developer preaching how amazing OpenSource is because he can basically "take" other people's source, and claim it his own. Who's going to check? Certainly not the end user!

Open source also DOES NOT MEAN FREE. Let's remove this relation from our minds. It doesn't mean that. I am not talking about the money most of the time to support these products (which you often do). I am talking about the product it self. OpenSource does not mean free. Period.

And online advertising... Ahhh ... If I only got 1 penny every time someone advocated to me how online advertising is bringing their dream of retiring millionaires while their website makes money for them.

Fact is, online advertising works for THE BIG BOYS. All the rest, don't make anything. In fact, most barely gain few dollars a month. It's completely not worth it!

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure who is behind pushing these ideas onto the society with this momentum. But I know there is a goal behind this.

I just wish people would wake up and understand that nothing is going to come their way without hard creative work.

good post Qwaider, i was thinking to write about that but you went ahead of me and it came much better with you, unfortunately people hear these words and don't study or analyze it using a trust-worthy source,
anyone now started to call himself an entrepreneur, web technologies expert, media guru, etc, but without reciting any true successful accomplishments he made, i think such titles are given by people in a certain field to someone who is special and distinguished among them.
what is really sad but true is that most of these people and kind of end-users of a technology or a software (like CMS and blogging platforms) but not creators of a real-time system from a scratch.
people should really know what open source and free software means and distinguishes free software from no-price-paid software.
    sorry for the long comment

Thank you, I think we all share the feelings on these issues. I'm just sick of so called Gurus who apparently have a lot to gain from the "advice" they're giving

    Hareega
Thanks man. Any plans to take your sick time off during the world cup? :)
