Quite frankly, despite my eternal love for great super-hero movies. For the past few years, I grew sick and tired of them. The flicks just don't have it anymore. Regardless of Batman's great success, or Spiderman's unprecedented sales. The whole genre is becoming more and more boring and pretty predictable...
Until now!
Kick-ass is one of those extremely unlikely flicks, with a very great start, deeply rooted into reality and modestly acceptable Comedy/Drama bordering on Action but sticking to the basics of good story telling. Developing the characters, setting the stage for what's to come, setting the expectation, building towards the climax and then ... EXPLOSION! In what appears to be the best progression of a story I've seen in YEARS.
First a few ground rule, the movie is rated R (In case the title didn't tip you off on that) So make sure, no kids watch this. It's NOT for kids.
Now, watch this cool trailer, and read the next part of the review below, I promise you will not be disappointed! Promise!
What I like about the trailers, is that they don't show you a condensed version of the film. They kinda let you guess what's coming and believe me. You would want to know first hand what is coming
Released in GLORIOUS non-3-D (thank god) the story starts of with an ordinary kid with one super power, invisibility to girls. Yep, that is right. Many people would attest to owning this super power too. If you're not sure, just ask teenager dude with acne that can be seen from orbit! They're still invisible to the chicks!
Anyway, the movie doesn't disappoint on laughs, action or seriously good effects. In fact, I can't remember a single movie that even comes close. This new action/drama/comedy is something to keep an eye on as I think it will catch on.
Chloe Moretz, the innocent little girl that looks like Abigail Breslin in "Little Miss Sunshine", sans the innocence! She plays "Hit Girl" a cross between Master Yoda, and Trinity from the Matrix competing with Tomb-Raider's Lara Croft! Believe me, she beats all the above! I mean it! Just wait until she starts talking smack with that little angel halo on hear head. It will blow your mind away.
Nicolas Cage on the other hand has been probably paid a lot of money to star in this movie. But as usual, he adds his own flavor and does it masterfully. I don't think the whole movie would have the same impact with him.
All in all, this was great entertainment, a movie not to be missed, coming to a theatre near you on April 16th. Make sure you don't miss it. 9/10 on the Qwaider Scale
This really looks a very funny movie. Did you mean Nicolas Cage? I didn't see Kevin Spacy in the trailer unless both are in the movie. Although, I decided not to watch any thing for Nicolas Cage after his last 10 or so terrible movies but the trailer seems very good.
I have no idea where my mind was when I was writing that! Good catch Jaraad You're right, the movie is funny, it has also action, some good drama and pretty naughty teenage scenes. It's a mix of all of the above. Perhaps that's why I liked it
Memories....

Sheesh.
