If you know me, you'd know I LOVE Bill Maher, his anti-religion jokes are fantastic. For the most part they are very funny. Taken at face value they appear true.

Last night, I decided to watch Religulous, I've had the DVD next to the TV for at least 5 month. Wify has been upset that I didn't return it to Netflix yet. She has a point you know.

Anyway, I decided to finally watch it, I never used to miss a single episode of Real Time with Bill Maher until I unsubscribe from HBO.

Anyway, I was shocked at the poor Michael-Moor-ish docu-comedy. It was pathetic! Not even that it was way worse than pathetic, it was completely bankrupt.

Bill Maher appeared to find the least likely subjects for his interviews, and then go ahead and mock them. I'm not sure what he was trying to prove, but he was exactly like the wannabe-bully picking up a fight with the smallest kid in class while dodging the big guys so he won't get a bloody nose

And when someone proves him wrong..... Then they're either liars, or ignorant!

I'm really disappointed. I truly am. I expected the old witty, smart, energetic, quick reflexes Bill Maher and was presented with a older, slower, pot-damaged-brain Maher, I was upset to say the least.

When Michael Moor was doing his documentaries, he went to the big guns. Confronted those, heck even Borat went to the big guns and confronted them. Bill, picked the smallest game to lock horns with. Yes he will win, but such a petty win is worse than defeat if you ask me.

At one point he picked the argument with a pastor of a TRAILER church. The size of a cargo crate. The guy is not a match for prime-time television star! It was clear. Then he started casting doubt, and drilling further into his faith. Just like any chauvinist would flex his muscles at those who are less than him. I actually felt bad for the part-time pastor who was completely overwhelmed. He deserved better than that.

There was one occasion when he was actually completely blown to hell. When a certified scientist, the head of the Human Genome project (Francis Collins a devout Christian), was skillful and knowledgeable enough in BOTH fields to be able to shut the idiotic, teenage arguments down. Bill Maher could do nothing more than cut the interview short.

Another time, when the head of the Vatican observatory, another religious scientist, was talking about the relation of science and religion. Bill Maher didn't notice that the guy was actually ripping him a new one. He used this interview to contrast it with some idiot in Nashville who had no idea what he's doing creating a "Museum" for creationism! Now these morons give ALL believers a bad name. I agree, but they are individuals. They make mistakes and they shouldn't be held as an Example of Religion!

Bill was smart enough to remove most of the Islamic hate speech that was delivered by one guy, although he completely agreed with it. It was a shame since it contained so much hate speech about Islam and Prophet Mohammad.

At the end of the video I was wishing I had the opportunity to speak to Bill, and just answer some of his "questions". Maybe one day I will have that chance.

    Who knows.

Bill Maher, sorry dude, that was completely not up to your standards

Although I agree with Bill on how people can get away with damaging offensive actions under the cover of religion, the documentary itself was porrly made. It wasn't useless, as it gave an idea and a little food for thought, but overall it did not present a good argument and it didn't give a chance for any serious debate. It was only about Bill presenting his point that "he doesn't know" if God truly exists and trying hard to prove it or confuse people.

I agree with that too, I also happen to LOVE Bill Maher style of political comedy. There were couple of moments that I really liked, like the senator saying "No IQ test required to be in the Senate". But those are too few and far in between that they didn't provide any value.

I have never found Bill Maher to be witty, intelligent, or otherwise worthy of breathing the same atmosphere I'm breathing. The man is a waste of skin. ;-)

"No IQ test required to be in the Senate" was the best line in the whole documentary. It was a waste of time for us to be honest. I felt so bad for those who were interviewd and left confused. I also didn't like the link between Islam and terrorism all through the documentary. It was MY first time to see Bill talking :p but it will be the last for sure :)

I watch Bill Maher only when I am completely bored and can not find anything else to do. I do not find that guy smart or skillful in debate. I think he pretends to be one, but he really is not. (BTW, I say that even though I am liberal, so i don't disagree with him ideologically).

I saw religulous and had the same reaction as you.
