Some of my friends call me, "closet Islamist". I guess there's no use getting out of the closet. I am what I am, and completely by my choice. Not forced, or brain washed into it.

There are certain things in this life that we sometimes have to take on "faith". We really don't know why, and for the remainder of this article the main idea is me trying to reason why prayers in Islam are divided in the way they are. However, this is not approved or endorsed by any Islamic fatwa, nor does it convoy any justification or ideas to find work-arounds.

A while ago, I was pretty strapped for time, I had to accomplish so much with so little time. So I ran a little experiment. It's really not all that scientific since a sample of 1 can't really be extrapolated or generalized, but I think at least for me, it worked.

The experiment was to create a work metronome.

What I did was create a little application that would make a little bell every few minutes (I set it usually to an odd number like 3). I was surprised to how much more efficient I became when I started sensing the passage of time. It was like an eye opener to me. It helped me feel how time passed, while I was working. I'm one of those people who dive so deeply into the problem and shut everything out to the point that I would start my day at 8 and wouldn't notice it's 6 PM. So you can imagine how much this helped

I started reflecting on the 5 prayers, and noticed that they are there for a reason, other than worship. There was a different reason.

The Fajr prayer would help you wake up really early to be ready and fresh for the start of the day. Associated with ablution it's the greatest start for any day, even by modern standers.

The Dhuhor prayer helps you realize that half the day has passed. So whatever it is that you're doing, you better start making plans for the remaining half.

The Aser prayer helps you realize that your day is almost at an end. To help you wind down and get ready to wrap up your work for the next day.

The Maghreb prayer is your last landmark of the day. Time to go home, finish work or end your day.

The Isha prayer is the final wrap up of the day. Your night is all yours

I do not know why but suddenly the whole day started making more sense. I started feeling the passage of time and became more efficient. It made sense to me finally.

I don't know about others, but this is my view, and the way my pretty scientific mind rationalized prayers and their significance.

Do you have something to help you measure the passage of time like me?

الله يعز الاسلام والمسلمين.لقد اثبتت الصلاة بانها بالضافة الى انها مفروضة من الله عز وجل الا انها ايضا رياضة جسدية للجسم وللذهن ايضا

It's nice when you show people that applying God's orders in your life is not shutting your way, no it keeps you on the right track of life :D

    Love it :D

There was a time I used to pray all 5 and my dad did inevitably revolve around them. How my day was conducted was not necessarily dictated by the prayers but rather they served as milestones.

Dunno what happened from then. I miss me.
