Some visionary designer at Microsoft decided that, well, If you decide to remove Exchange from your phone. You should also delete everything you got from that server.

I mean who would want company property (AKA, emails) to be left on someone's Windows Mobile phone. If it wasn't for the fact that they're already there.

But why did that STUPID designer decide to DELETE ALL THE CONTACTS from my phone along with the EMAILS? How stupid is that?

I see these stupidities everywhere. People don things because it's their JOB not their Passion. It doesn't matter where they are. Microsoft, Google, IBM, DELL. It really doesn't matter. People are "Tasked" with creating something. Which they have absolutely nothing in common with other than the paycheck. While PASSIONATE PEOPLE end up not qualifying for the job.

Anyway... Microsoft, if you want to fire someone for screwing up, here's a list of poor designers that should be off your payroll:

    1. The guy who decided to delete contacts from Windows Mobile phones when Exchange is removed.
    2. The guy who decided that it's actually "Cool" to have the transparent Aeoro effect. It's LAME, counter productive, stupid and consumes processing power. (Best part, it still sucks!)
    3. The guy who decided that Vista was in "Shipping state" when it first shipped.
    4. The imbecile who decided that Internet Explorer 6 is the final goal of browser development and decided to dissolve the team as there is no more reason to keep stuff like that around
    5. The idiot who made PowerShell this complicated. For god's sake, look at UNIX 30 year old shell and find inspiration there.
    6. The guy who decided that giving free domain names with NOTHING to support the back end is what businesses are looking for.
    7. The guy who said "Consumers paying $600 for a Phone? And laughed". Who's laughing now?
    8. The guy who closed down the AutoPC division (Aka Sync, found on Ford cars), when the whole auto industry is looking to bring "KITT" to the masses. And only when the technology has FINALLY caught up. (Look to BMW for inspiration)
    9. The guy who kept Hotmail at 2MB when Gmail was offering 5GB of storage
    10. And the SUPER idiot who decided not to create Arabic Localization for Windows Mobile phones!

    Happy Mondays

But isnt there a phase before designing? the requirements stage.. as a result comes the designing stage. so what is the possibility of this was one of the requirements? also, is this out to production? or still under testing? what happened to QA team that should be creative with scenarios? all that not defending the designers.. they, also, should have a sense while designing.. *sigh*

Qwaider, fault me for being a Mac guy if you will, but one of the things I love about Apple in general is their passion for design.  I'll admit that they're not perfect and they don't always get things right directly out of the gate, but I feel that they are passionate about design for passion's sake.  Just watch Apple Chief Engineer Jonathan Ive talk about the design for the newest iMacs and you can see what I mean.  His goal is to design the best computer possible at this moment, and he clearly sees it as a functional, working piece of art.  For me personally, it's inspirational.

    Thank you for your comment.
I believe many people (web developers specifically) are still suffering, and will likely to continue to suffer due to that IE6 guy

    Jano
You're right, design stems from requirements, and feedback. But you'll find two people tasked with designing the same thing. One guy does it for a living, and one guy does it because he loves that product.
And you're right again, the QA team needs to test with an open mind and empathy for the customer. But the burden of designing a tool lies primarily on the designer. Everyone else, are tools to his success (or demise)

    Dave
I won't fault you. I think in the past decade Mac has demonstrated and proven that it can make products that appeal and cater for the needs of everyone. As you said, they do have their shortcomings but they don't leave a lot to be wished for. They're Nazis when it comes to their platforms, phones and devices. They don't share, they don't play nice with competitors. But it's a cut-throat system. They're expected to do whatever is necessary.
And I agree with you, Apple (And Google) both show that in many cases they're passionate about the design and technology. Now there's nothing wrong with making money while doing that. That's where these major companies priorities should be. Make money, but keep your focus on the design and technologies. A good design will eventually make money due to it's success.
