HDTV, when you really don't need any

The menu came up in the native resolution of the video and guess what. It looked like Atari 2600 from the 1980's. Pixelated and horrible to look at, but that means that the resolution of the video is REALLY horrible. As in worse than those low-fi youtube videos.

But here's the really stunning thing. The picture was PERFECT! You couldn't tell a thing. It appeared exactly like anything else I pop in to watch. Especially cartoons!

That got me to think. What's the use for HDTV for channels that show nothing but cartoons all day long? Sure those 3D "realistic" shows and live action series would benefit from the 1080p resolution and would look fantastic. But the cartoons? Not that much different! Seriously!

Remember when we were young, we had this magazine called "Majed" it used to be published in Emirates and distributed around the Arab world. Apart from the glossy covers and few colored pages. The magazine was not known for it's spectacular graphics or extremely high resolution.

But it was a success! It's STILL in circulation since it was first released over 32 years ago.

It wasn't the high-dpi that got that made it a success. It was the content. Just like everything else. Content is always king. A great movie would have followers even if it was being told as a folk story. On the other hand, no amount of crispy digital wizardry can make Battle Field Earth watchable.

I guess, if someone wanted to archive the whole human history before the 3rd millennium, it can all be fitted on a single poor quality but meaningful desk. Then you need to fill the equivalent of 10 libraries with the rest of the crap.

What makes something really worth watching is nothing more than the oldest ingredient known to man, content!
