Childishly, for three decades of my life. Despite being bitten a million times, I honestly always thought evil people are not really evil. They're just confused about things. They're really not evil. They're just pretend kind of evil.

Well, I turned out to be dead wrong. There are evil people out there. So evil, you can't really imagine the length they would go to to cause you harm. Completely out of their way, completely uncalled for.

But the question that bugs me is, why! What satisfaction do these evil people get? Do they feel better about themselves? Does it help them sleep better at night?

As tough as I like to pretend to be, deep inside I feel that I have an obligation towards my humanity. Never to cause harm. Not even to those who who have harmed me. I feel that part of a person's humanity dies with them if they commit such harm. Even if they were looking for a cure for cancer. Harm shouldn't be an option.

It's sad to see how the condition of the world is today. Seriously, people are at each other's throats. Anything and everything is confronted with insanity, rendered in the form of excess violence. Just look at the percentage of frivolous law suits in the United states, and you will realize how evil, as a species, we have become.

    Numbers make things easier...

I heard this today during a presentation. How true...

If all the victims of domestic violence become suddenly 25% that doesn't feel as bad as seeing their battered faces, and their broken souls.
If all the victims of honor killings suddenly became only 0.001% of the population. That would make it a relief! If people knew that more 50% more people people die choking on their own food than during child birth. It somehow makes things look abstract...
If the unemployment rate is 7% or 8% it feels better than looking at Bob, Rick, and Mary with anguished faces thinking how are they going to make ends meet? How are their kids going to be able to go to school...
None of the figures above is true... But the idea is

    Numbers do make things easier...

...they suck the soul out of everything. They turn things from flesh and blood. To statistics... Miraculously

I'm good with numbers... I always was... I developed an intimate relationship with them. As long as I was good, I could pass my exams, and get fantastic grades... I would solve difficult physics and find answers to things that haven't even been invented.

Even this stuff that you read, although it is the essence, soul and conscious of our humanity, you wouldn't have had the chance to read it. If it wasn't for numbers

Maybe evil people see a binary world. Perhaps it's only natural for evil people to see things through an abstract kaleidoscope of their own remorseless existence...

One thing I learned, and that is what goes around, comes around...

I sometimes blame it on our culture that keeps insisting that كُل الناس خير و بركة، which couldn't be further from the truth. There will always be those that see the success of others as a threat to their own. Or that if someone is doing better then them, they must jeopardize that one's success in order to make up for their own shortcomings.

As for numbers, there are lies, damned lies, and statistics.

You always have to ask, "what did I do to make this person be mean to me?" and then, "even if I did nothing, what am I supposed to learn from it?"
