This morning, I was pleasantly surprised with a call from one of my very best friends. We've been out of touch for a very long time. He's gone to Dubai to make his billions. For all I know, he's almost there, and I'm couldn't feel any happier or prouder.

It was funny and shocking to exchange ideas on what happened in these years. How the dirtiest guy ended up with the school's slut. How our friends ended up where they are now. How the guys lost the hair they used to boast. How the girls lost the battle to gravity. How the guys became more "attractive" after they made a few bucks. And how the plumpy, chubby, sweet chicks could only get married after they lost their baby fat.

It was a good healthy dose of "historical" gossip. Most of what we exchanged was hot news few years back but pretty much.

Some of my friends are working on their 4th kid. While others are still looking for Mrs. Right at 4 AM out of Dubai's nightclubs. It was a healthy dose of humor laced with some sorrow and reminiscing over the old days. It meant that we're getting older.

It was so amusing to mention how the worst of the worst girl of those times would rank among the top decent girls these days...

Or perhaps... we were more innocent back then?

The lady's fate wasn't much better. Either fell off the grid. Or fell off the grid only to reemerge after their divorce. Or couldn't find a suitable mate except after making considerable concessions, oh and weight loss!

I think it's true, but I have mixed emotions regarding "things we do to get married". Like losing weight, to appeal to the guys. Or starting to wear Hijab, or removing Hijab just to get through this major step.

As for the guys, Looks like men are always losing the battle for hair. Almost 80% if not more of our friends are sparkling bald these days. Luckily, that saying "what you have when you hit thirty is what you'll have for the rest of your life", and I emerged on the other side of 30 with a full head of hair. So I should be set. For now :).

The rest are struggling with the ever expanding waist lines. Some struggle with both hair and waist lines receding and expanding

Anyway, It's great to talk to an old friend from time to time, I highly recommend it. Pick up the phone and call an old friend for no specific reason and spend the next hour or so talking about the good old days. It's almost therapeutic

Yeah i imagine that was quite some fun :-)

It has been some years since my class graduated from school, and fewer years since we graduated from the university and went our separate ways. My classmates and I are still trying to start our own lives but it is nice to see how things have changed. This transition into "adulthood" crept on us slowly and steadily, but still it hit us (at least me) suddenly and by surprise.

I don't know if life is more fun as a kid or as an adult. I think i am yet to find out.

I, too, miss the days when you just picked up the phone or knocked on your friend's door without a month's panning.

Za3tar: high school years were the best.

speaking of losing hair and baldness, have you noticed that there are more people with bald heads in Jordan than in the US or Europe? Hmmmm.... my conspiracy-theory self wants to say that it might be related to our cousins across the river, but I digress....
