Yahoo finally did it, after acquiring the "Facebook" of its time "Geocities" over 10 years ago for a whopping $4B. It has successfully managed to turn that to a waste land of sites riddled with Phish, malware and exploits.

It saddens me because I recall my very first site online back in 1996(?) hosted freely on Geocities.

Without Geocities, free web hosting, or services like free blogging pages that most of us are enjoying these days wouldn't have ever materialized into anything. Yes, that includes you on BlogSpot, Wordpress, Jeeran and any other platform free hosting platform

RIP Geocities, thank you for the memories.

Will someone please put Yahoo out of its misery and business for good?

Enough reminiscing...

Geocities used to be a crappy service that didn't work half the time, and was laden with malware, badly written sites and all sort of crap. Partly due to neglect from Yahoo. But that's the end result

This probably means something very important. Free hosting has its price, and apparently. It's really high.

It's probably not the free hosting part but the neglect part that had geocities kick the bucket.

Actually it's been neglected so much that I forgot it existed till I read this post!
