Everything is for sale! Yep, that's one of the grown-up facts that we try not to think about! But it's true!

Apparently, Google is in gearing up to devour the tweety little twitter birdie, from the very same folks that brought to you, (and sold to Google) Blogger. Do these guys ever run out of stupid ideas that make billions? [Stupid here is not being used negatively, but rather with great admiration]

Rumor has it that Facebook tried to guy twitter for ... drum roll... Half a BILLION dollars. But that didn't work. But it's really dumb from both sides. WHY would Facebook buy something they already have? Remember those annoying status updates? That's Twitter for you FB! Tsk tsk tsk ... shame on you!

So in 140 letters or less tell me, What are you buying today?

My money is on an online service that lets you update your stupid status for all the voyeuristic morons who want to get updated on what you are doing in the bathroom. oops, there I go again..

Anyway, back to the "Online service" that has a little box of your Desktop, on you Smartphone, accepts SMS and smoke signals, then updates your "oh so mind boggling valuable and highly anticipated" status in ALL the status boxes in one go. On Facebook, on your Live Messenger, in your Yahoo messenger, in your Twitter, on your blog, on your car's dashboard, on your iPod, on your fridge LCD, even for the 3 people who still use Google talk ...

Don't you feel that all these "What are you doing now" boxes are starting to clutter out life with too much useless information, like a sad episode of MySpace teen girl's profile page? All that is missing is Glitter!

But the important question, why would anyone buy Twitter, at ANY price (greater than $10000 since it would probably cost less to MAKE YOUR OWN) or just rob some open source and call it ... something twittery.

Now, don't get me wrong. I think twitter is an excellent platform and values more with time (and number of users), it's oven being used to sign articles for people to "follow" the author. (Kind of reminds me of the BBS addresses, then CompuServe addresses, then AOL keywords back in the 90s then it was overtaken by email and websites)

But the truth of the matter is that services like Twitter are really not making any money. (And possibly burning through tons of cash, in these bleak economic times). It's not 2006 anymore, and the rules of the game have changed, mandated by the economy of course.

Which means, Twitter is a dead weight no matter who the heavy hitter who's planning to lift Twitter's Whale. (If you have not been twitterized, that dreadful whale signifies how the system fails at times under the load of all the users). The list of heavy hitters appears to include Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Apple and Rupert Murdoch (aka, the usual suspects, AKA the only people with Cash)

So, who's going to create the aggregating service to unify all your statuses? (is that a word?)

I agree. the value of twitter is not in the groundbreaking idea they have. because they don't. its just the number of users and the amount of free publicity they have been getting. if you think about it, blogger has the same thing. the title of each blogger post is limited to something like 140 characters ( I have not counted them!), and, as you said, the status (the ‘u’ in the singular is as the ‘u’ in datum, whereas the plural has an ‘u’ as in tune.) in facebook is just the same, annoying concept.

Honestly, I haven't seen any value in Twitter either and i don't use it. I barely saw any value in Facebook either because i could already do all the things it was providing me already, but i sort of got shoved into it by my friends (although i don't use facebook that much either).

Still, i honestly see absolutely no value in Twitter (at least now). I also do not understand all this publicity they've been getting lately (you hear the word Twitter on tv now on almost every single show ... i am willing to bet that the VCs of Twitter paid the news channels to talk about it).

Also, as you said .. why would Google or anybody buy Twitter ? Why would Facebook buy Twitter ? .. I guess they are seeing something in it that i just don't see yet. I am betting there is something they think they can do with it that we don't know about. ... meh
