Have you ever imagined human life as being parasitic? Not only human, but life in general, appears to be parasitic and overwhelming nature with "unnatural" chemicals eating away of planets, and consuming natural resources, and later on polluting nature as we pump tremendous amounts of chemicals into nature and causing it to suffocate and die. Although, death is an attribute of life only.

But we can still consider planets, and stars alive as they do appear to go through cycles of what constitutes life.

How do you define life? That's a very difficult concept to define...

Life is not movement. Most plants don't move. Life is also not growth, certain crystals are known to grow. Could it be procreation? Certain polymers appear to "replicate", same goes for synthetic entities like computer viruses. It's certainly not feeding or chemical consumption of matter since fire consumes.

Same goes for breathing, not all life breaths, and not all chemical reactions can take place without breathable air. Life also doesn't necessarily need to be aware of it's own existence to be living

See, life is really a very difficult term to define

What appears to be much clearer is the definition of life in comparison to nature, sans life. And it appears to be clearly parasitic..

    Are we all all parasites?

    Interesting twist on a subject

I do believe that parasites don't kill off their hosts; they might degrade the quality(ies) of the host but definitely not kill if they were to survive. Unless they're dumb parasites like us :)

But perhaps we cannot assign something a parasitic attribute if we couldn't assign it "life", right? Which brings us back to the first obstacle!

No, humans (or life on this planet) are not parasites, since parasites cannot live independently of their host. Only if you consider the entire planet to be a single organism can humans be considered parasites. However, the planet is a highly complex network of nested predator-prey relationships, with the odd parasite or symbiote thrown in. Humans are just exceedingly effective predators. Who have been lucky, I might point out, that another more-efficient predator has not found THEM yet. That humans know of.

Yep, the entire planet + our sun + the whole solar system is our "Host"
We're not having a symbiotic relationship. We're completely destroying this planet, and molding it to our  comfort and survival.

    good morning samer,

as you said, life is the ability of being a parasite, not a single form of life has the ability to live without parasiting a host, but the question is:which parasite is the most intellegent of them all?
here, i agree with kj, humans are the dumbest.
