    RANT..
And yet again, my hate for Captcha has been realized in what is clearly a "breakthrough" that hackers managed to achieve against the STUPIDITY of Captcha.

(I use it because I absolutely have to and only after ALL other data intelligence that I perform when collecting comments fails)

But Captchas are stupid! They are stupid BY DESIGN.
    /Rant

Ok, enough ranting. Now to some information.

Apparently, some hackers managed to crack the latest and greatest hotmail Captcha. Have you seen it? It's MAD in its complexity. But, yet again, it was broken, and trust me. So have EVERY POSSIBLE CAPTCHA you have seen online.

Why Hotmail? Because despite Gmails success, it's still #1 trusted Email source (conditions aren't that much better at Google by the way. Spam is just all over the place) My Gmail account is totally overrun by spam and I never even use my Gmail account for anything!

Take one step back and think... Can a computer generate a riddle that the computer can't solve? (That a human can)

I can think of people inventing things that other people can't solve, and possibly not even computers. But computers outsmarting other computers? Maybe for a while, but not forever!

That's why Captcha, and the whole idea of Captcha is just idiotic. It's unreasonable to say the least!

If you disagree with me, mainly because you run a Captcha, and you have not been gang-banged yet. That's because you're not even a worthy target. Sorry, but that is the sad truth!

If you ever played with OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software (I have been since the early 90s) you would know that they have come a LONG way since then. They've become so reliable that they're used to sort out mail at amazing speeds, most of which is hand written (and by the way, it has been doing that since the 1980's, I remember when it was first introduced in Kuwait)

With faster computers, OCR is becoming less and less expensive. This cost effective way to break and Captcha is being reported to be between 12 and 20% successful. That's one in every 5 Captchas solved correctly! That's so alarming. Especially for large networks like Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo mail.

    Anyway... read some more

You seem to have a great pet-peeve against CAPTCHAS. I do not think that anybody has ever claimed that CAPTCHAs are the *final* solution. I think it was known from the outset that CAPTCHAs were just a temporary fix until we can better deal with spam correctly.

Like them or not, they are temporary, and they managed to subvert some spam attacks for some time. Personally, i am really looking forward to see the time when we no longer need manual anti-spam methods like CAPTCHAs and can automatically filter out spam consistently and reliably.

Interesting read, I haven't been a fan of them anyway (mostly because they give ME a hard time reading!) but I know nothing is fool-proof either.

btw how much clogging does spam cause on the global internet? I mean how much faster would the internet be for a day if there is no spam?

I think Captcha was made by the same mindset who think banning guns is the answer to our crime when in reality allowing *Law Abiding* citizens to have guns will stop crime better.    Hasn't failed yet and never will.

If Captcha is breached then what do we do next? Read your minds? :P

"But I don't want my mind read because it's sacred to my body and goes against the laws of the deep magic!"

Dickhead0001: "Dude! Don't do spam and you won't have any troubles!"

Translation:  "I dont' give a d--n about your mind as long as we get rid of criminals and I don't care how unreasonable harsh I am cause I need power!"

Welcome to the Antichrist and the world of communisum where everybody is equal and poor :P

And the moment you disagree the internet dickheads will power trip you trying to make you feel bad for having a contrary opinion.  :P

I sure hope these power hungry internet commentors don't wind up in law enforcment or it will no longer be  Protect and serve  and that includes the Cyberworld where there is no freedom of speech.

    Off my soapybox.

I've seen a lot of tools which simply solve captchas.. Here is addons for mozzilla, some of them solve captchas. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search?q=captcha&cat=all

captchas are good and bad at the same time but its a stupid thing at all times

I hate CAPTCHAs too, and I did something about it.  I've invented a new technoloy to replace the damn things. (http://www.vouchsafe.com)

I'd love your comments and feedback.  I don't have a ton of money for marketing, so I need to get support from ordinary users to help create awareness.

Thanks Christopher, that's a really smart approach indeed. Although I can already find a few issues with it.
For example, multi-languge support appears to be a challenge. People with vision difficulties might also have problems with this type of captcha. Not that these issues don't already exist. But it might be a great idea to look for clever solutions for those too :)

My solution is purely reputation based on reputation and smart analysis of the content. It uses a lot of processing power but, what doesn't these days?

Thanks again for sharing Christopher, I hope great things come your way
hey there and thank you for your info – I've definitely picked up something new from right here. I did however expertise some technical issues using this website, as I experienced to reload the site lots of times previous to I could get it to load properly. I had been wondering if your web host is OK? Not that I'm
complaining, but slow loading instances times will sometimes affect your placement
in google and can damage your high quality score if advertising and marketing with Adwords.
Anyway I'm adding this RSS to my email and could look out for a lot more of your respective exciting content. Make sure you update this again very soon.
